Cliffs of Dover is $9.99 with very detailed flight model, lots of planes and improvements that are released for free.

BOS + BOM + BOK = $49.99 + $49.99 + $69.99???????

I also see that the bouncing ball ground handling effect in multiplayer is being fixed (great!) but only if you buy BOM.  The fix won't be available for people who only purchased BOS?

The pricing strategy is over the top gents.

Cliffs of Dover is and old product with no official developer support. It barely had developer support when it was a current game, but that's another story.

Team Fusion are modding Cliffs of Dover, and whilst their work is truly admirable, it is not the same as developer supported software.

It has been roughly 2 years since the last Cliffs of Dovers Team Fusion patch. Who knows how long it will be before their next patch.

And they will never, ever be able to produce 10 planes and a map in the same timeframe that the BoX developers can.

IMO, as a flight-sim fan, you should have Cliffs of Dover installed and you should support their efforts. But to compare the two projects now is just ridiculous.

It will be updated for everyone. You will get all the updated code when the new games are released, you just won't get access to the new aircraft or maps (in SP).

Well the FMs were at the time, but I dare say BoX is more advanced. And what was the cost of CloD when It was new? What amount of planes did you get? Was there much ongoing development after release? That bit is all down to TF, and they are doing a great job of it. But they are doing it for free on their spare time. Which is insane! Don't know how they do it.

What the IL-2 team is doing is practically giving you 3 games. Yes they are all incorporated into the same platform, and shares assets across this platform (which by the way is a great way of doing things), but it is still, in workload, three games. All that research, modelling, texturing, animating, physics modelling, programming that goes into these productions. 170USD for 3 high quality games, made for a relatively small target audience?

I am so happy that IL-2 came back, and that it took the shape of a progressively evolving product that keeps growing and updating. It almost has the development model of an MMO, but it is sold like a traditional game. Most others who develop a product for this long and in this tempo has a freemium/preminum type model, and if you do pay for that, you would in the end exceed the price you pay for IL-2. I hope they keep it going like this, and I cannot understand anyone who thinks It is priced too high.

$6.99 for a few new planes and a new map, yes.

$69.99 for a few new planes and a new map, hell no.

Why do I get the feeling this is a kid still living with his or her parents? Maybe it is because it is comically obvious that they have no clue what it means (=costs) to live in the real world, let alone what amount of work goes into a "few new planes and a new map"?

Kid, when you are ready to go out to the real world and start dating (and I mean dating adults), here's something that might help:

(1) $6.99 barely gets you a sandwich at Subway. Your date will have to get his/her own.

(2) $69.99 = movie + decent dinner out for two. You can probably get far with this one if you are in high-school, and very far in middle-school maybe. But once you start life as a working professional (hopefully), this will be a decent baseline date, i.e., in a long term relationship, but not something if you want to wow and bedazzle.

(3) $100.00 = great/fancy dinner for two. Movie not included. Yep, this is a decent one to aim for to impress.

So, if you think $6.99 is all that the hundreds (or more) of hours of fun a "few new planes and a new map" is worth, and you take this notion on to your adult dating life, I've got good news and bad news for you. The good news is that the "going blind" thing is just a myth. The bad news is, well, you are going to spending a lot of time with yourself ...

That was on Oculus, not the team. They already have released early Vive integration, and are working to roll out DX11. Things are much more definitive than they were two years ago when both Il-2 and major VR products were still in their very early days.

USD 100 is hard to impress girls these days...

At least you would need USD 500 or a fancy dinner.

Breakdown is 100 min for a decent wine to share (corkage is usually 50 to 60).

Two appets around 20 to 30 each. Main course would be 80 100 each, and some desrt 20 each.

Dont forget gents get taxi for ladies.

6.99 for BOS... that must be an insulting statement for devs.....

Posted

And then this happened in January of 2015.... https://forums.oculus.com/community/discussion/19489/directx-9-dx9-will-be-deprecated-starting-with-next-sdk

Good to have all of the facts.

And there are DX9 games out there that continue to support the Oculus Rift. I know the history, IL2 was probably my single most anticipated game to play with the Rift.

While I understand that VR integration is much more likely to happen this time, my post (while brief) was simply stating that I'm not forking out my money again over possible integrations written here.

The second I see it working I'm be putting my money where my mouth is and finally playing this game the way I've waited to do for the last 15 years (since IL2: Sturmovik)

Lucas, you obviously haven't played with the Vive integration (which conveniently works with the Rift a well) as it's a bit of a train-wreck at the moment.

Also, welcome to the Reddit thread where a bunch of more people bought the game based on the hope of VR integration (mentioned in June 2016 change logs) and then found out that it didn't work and NOW are finding out they have to buy a different game to make it work.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/4q8zor/ww2_flight_simulator_il2_sturmovik_adds_basic/?sort=old

VR integration has been teased at since conception and never followed through to this point.

While I'm definitely bitter that my time spent learning IL2:BOS in preparation of using it in VR meant that I couldn't get a refund through steam I'm JUST suggesting others exercise caution - I sincerely can't wait for it to come.

What are you talking about?

If they already own BoS, they don`t have to buy anything to get VR integration.

If you know the full history, it wld be great to refrain from telling segmented facts which misleads others who do NOT know the full story.

I was also a victim of reading all these one sided vicious hate posts on the internet and decided not to buy bos until a friend recommended it.

I bot bos and really enjoying it. I wondered how bos and subsequent titles sales would have been if not these toxic posts about bos.

If you want others be cautious, pls elaborate on your concerns instead of one screenshot BEFORE someone rebuttals with facts.

Oh really? Amazing! In which case I've totally misunderstood! The DX11 updates are coming to BoS? Sweet! I can't bloody wait! :D

I was under the impression the Battle of Kuban was a paid for/stand alone game, given the price...

Ah, I've just found the one line mentions it's an addon (which isn't detailed here, which is where I've come from: http://il2sturmovik.com/news/243/il-2-sturmovik-battle-kuban-pre-order/).

Woah woah woah, I said nothing about the quality of the game - everything I've commented on has simply been related to the VR integration and the back and forth inclusion of it in BOS. While my first post was sensationalist I feel I have elaborated on my concerns - VR integration has been promised before, on behalf of all VR flight sims fans - please make it actually happen! :)

Yes, BoK is just an expansion to the game like BoS/BoM.

DX11 and other cool stuff are improvements to the core engine and thereby will be included in BoS/BoM/BoK. Life is good my friend  ;)

I don't know where you live sir, but $100.00 dollars for fancy dinner for 2 is insane; in San Diego, Los Angeles, your luck its only $100.00 that's dinner for 2 at Burger king and a movie. Oh and don't forget about parking that's another $10.00; I paid dinner for 2 in San Diego $200.00 plus parking was another $15.00.

so I have no idea where you people are getting those low prices from, but I think you guys are out of touch on prices out here in California..

movies in San Diego are $15.50 per ticket. parking is $10.00.

google it get your pricing's right..

plus another Game / Sim

Steel Beast Pro DX9c =

New license SB Pro PE 4.0 (delivered by email) with CodeMeter stick 1 x 125

SB User's Manual 1 x 15.9

PO:

CA sales tax 10.57

Shipping 0

Total 151.47

in-conclusion

IL-2 Sturmovik is in the right price range for indie development team.

if you ask me that's cheap, for the grade AAA title this game gets..

Idem... did not buy BoK for the new content, but ONLY for the VR support! (And the subsequent eventuality of RoF in VR!!)

Posted

I've just taken the plunge, but I do want to point out that the only reason I've bought into this is for the promised VR support. Make it beautiful on the CV1 ;)

I know it's not the devs fault, but I only bought BoS because I read online that it was going to include VR.

I Look forward to taking a ride in my virtual spit.

Well according to some (I've yet to see it from developers themselves confirming this) but you didn't need to buy this addon... so they've got you again...

It really could be clearer, for people that aren't "in the know" and following the development of IL2 every day it's not obvious at all.

Although good call on the Spitfire... might buy this afterall! :D

$6.99 for a few new planes and a new map, yes.

$69.99 for a few new planes and a new map, hell no.

...and a completely new career mode for this and all previous instalments.

...and DX11 and VR support.

...and continued development of this sim through free updates.

This only happens, if people actually pay for the new content.

Contrast the prices not with what you normally pay for some cheap knock-off DLC to the big title games, but with the prices you pay for, say, DCS modules, and you'll see you get a pretty good deal here.

Dinner for two at burger king is 12$. 100$ = more than 240 beers at the shopping center. I think that 100$ is lot of money at least for me.

I was in NY last April, and i had the impression that a lot of stuff had become quiet a bit more expensive (Previous visit was summer 2007). Even for Western Europe standards i found the US more expensive then i would have expected.

Stop embarrasing yourself.

Nobody is trying to "get" or trick anyone.

The devs have written about it and published for everyone to know. They dont have to spoon feed it to you in a personal letter. if you felt so burnt i would think you would read up on the topic instead of making things up.

If you think IL2 is expensive, there are other hobbies you can consider.  You can always take up knitting to save money.

Yachting....................................$200,000

Hot air balloon..............................$25,000

Keeping a horse (1 year)...............$15,000

Aircraft lessons..............................$6,000

Glider lessons................................$4,000

Golf (set and 1 year fees)................$3,300

Going to Pub (1 year).....................$3,000

Civil War Reenacting......................$3,000

Computer with IL2 BOS/BOM/BOK..$2,850

Knitting..............................................$50

EDIT:  Of course, if I had my druthers, I'd be playing it from my yacht, after riding my horse back to the dock from a round of golf.

BTW, the integration of all of the modules has been known for a long time and is discussed on the About the Project page.  This also means that an update, new features, bug fixes, etc., other than to a specific plane or map, benefits all modules.

Compatibility Between Editions

There are two different editions of IL-2 Sturmovik available - Battle of Stalingrad and Battle of Moscow. The both use a common client and authorization system, which allows a customer to use them separately or as a combined product. This approach allows players of both editions to encounter each other in multiplayer mode and streamlines updates and the addition of future content. All editions of the game include the standard gameplay modes and several maps that are available to all owners of the sim.

Oh I didn't know this !! So when BOK goes DX11 and VR capable, so will BOS and BOM at the same time ?

If this is the case I might have to buy BOM too, though I would do this after VR is up and running

Yes all 3 parts use the same engine because of that you will get new things for free ( like VR for example ) with every new part they make.

OK noob question. I purchased the BOK pre-access today and I assume it is bundled with BOS yes ? when I start the game it asks for my email address and password. I enter these and it says one or other is incorrect ???? But they work when I log into the forum or order page. Key is activated. What am I doing wrong ?

Tony

Posted (edited)

It's not exactly bundled. If you bought BoK, you can only fly BoK planes and on the BoK map. Since none of that is avaliable yet, because early access has not started yet, you can't log in. You would need BoS or BoM.

Hi Matt, It says Battle of Stalingrad on the icon on my desktop and the splashscreen on start up ? Have I paid 70 dollars just to wait til December or Do I get BOS ? Bit confused ?

Tony

Posted

Well, you bought BoK. So yes, you would need to wait until December when early access is supposed to begin. But you should probably get in contact with the support. They might let you convert your BoK copy to BoS or BoM. Can't say for sure though.

I don't mind waiting just couldn't figure why it says BOS on the start up screen, this is misleading. Any ideas why?

Also If I bought BOS now then I take it when BOK comes out I get the access.

Also why did I have to download 6.3 gig of data to my pc ?

My startup screen says big IL-2 Sturmovik. But it does not matter what it says, if you bought BoK you have to wait until the early access to play.

I`m not sure if I understand the second question but if you buy BoS now, you can play it immediately. And if you own BoK, early access is starting december for Kuban battle.

6.3 Gb download is the game.
