Update 2.002

 
Dear pilots,
 
We continue to improve the sim. Today we release the update to version 2.002, which brings many additions and improvements along with a couple of surprises. First, we added preliminary support for HTC Vive, second - military ranks were introduced to campaign mode. They are separate for each campaign and side and influence the mission difficulty.

Awesome!

 

Campaign is getting most of this update and I`m glad for that. Looks like missions get a lot of variety and new elements, AI is getting improvements and the new rank system looks like nice improvement over the old one. 

 

New ground equipment looks cool, more targets to wreck. And of course VR support is big step forward.

Maybe I have got this wrong, but difficulty now depends on rank chosen?

Is this now simply swapping a rank instead of having a a level number?

Sorry if I sound dumb, but I may have missed something, (not unusual, lol)

 

Edit... just checked after updating, I'm still on level 12 in my pilot profile...

Great that IL2 BOS/BOM is regularly continued to improve.

 

My only complaint, the time, the developers are working slowly... very slowly... too slow...  :biggrin:

Yesterday i was talking with my friends over teamspeak how im gonna wait for Star VR, considering theres no VR support in Sturmovik, today im ordering HTC Vive...

Slow progress is STILL progress! BTW if you work hard and fast the job is done much faster and what you do after that? Go home for searching another job? Have your p-state have your time.......  :biggrin:

The update sounds tasty. But I share the same doubts as Trooper117... I'll test when I can, I'm still curious to see how it plays out.

I think its quite simple. Your overall level stays but has no effect on mission difficulty anymore. Mission difficulty is now triggered by rank for each side in each campaign.

 

Btw: whats AB-1 armor?

Other changes:

 

10. Multiplayer servers running a map inavailable to you will be greyed out in the server list;

11. You can see an exact mission type in campaign while choosing loadout to be able to fine-tune your aircraft to the task at hand;

12. Game won't crash anymore while loading an overcast mission on Windows 10;

13. You should be able to select a ground attack mission in a campaign if you have at least one required plane modification;

14. Ground attack planes and bombers in campaign mode fly at reduced speed if escorted by slow fighters (for example, I-16);

15. New subtitle added in campaign mode (escorted planes reached their airfield);

16. Ground attack missions on Pe-2 start below clouds during overcast weather in campaign mode;

17. Number of bad weather missions reduced in the 4th chapter of Battle of Moscow campaign;

18. Ground attack and bombing missions won't happen during strong turbulence;

19. Escort missions became harder, because enemy fighters may intercept you before or after the target area, not neccessary above it;

20. During intercept missions you can encounter enemy planes above friendly territory;

21. Enemy fighters will be less willing to atack the bombers you escort if they are outnumbered;

22. You may catch the enemy fighters on ground during airfield attack missions instead of encountering them in the air;

23. Artillery positions in the campaign mode became more varied;

24. In bombing missions enemy fighters will attempt to intercept you from a more random direction;

25. AI group logic improved (AI pilots won't switch targets too frequently);

26. AI logic improved in multiplayer (previously they opened fire later than in singleplayer);

27. AI pilots of twin engine aircraft learned to taxi from parking more effectively;

28. Fuel tank rear armor increased by 1,5 mm for both IL-2;

29. AB-1 armor toughness increased by 33% relative to a standard homogenous armor;

30. Armor protection on Fw-190 is removed correctly after ditching the canopy;

31. It is impossible to fire guns when powered off on aircraft equipped with electric triggers;

32. You don't need to issue manual radiator mode command twice for automatic radiators (radiator assist turns off simultaneously with turning manual radiators mode on);

33. A lost canopy won't erroneously block the ability to bail out;

34. Broken instruments in a cockpit show the last value instead of 0;

35. Instrument light can be damaged;

36. Mission editor properties window appearance corrected in Windows 10;

37. Smoke and fuel trails won't 'shimmer' in a turbulent air.

AB-1 (АБ-1, Авиационная Броня-1) this is the type of Soviet aviation armor which was used for Il-2 for example.

If your interpretation is correct I will be over the moon provided we get to choose what rank we wish to play at.

 

Its 2200 here and I am off to bed. I'm baby sitting grand children tomorrow until late in the afternoon so if somone can confirm rank is selectable I would be most grateful.

HTC Vive support, this is fantastic! Thanks guys, I had completely lost interest for IL2 a while ago but now I'm back on board. If this is done in any sort of functional way I can tell you I'll go buy BoM straight away!

 

Please, please, pretty please, don't forget RoF and add VR support for it too. I'd actually buy that as a DLC for the full game price, not kidding!

I think a drivable Marder would absolutely make sense.. it would help ground balancing quite a lot.

 

having a big gun against those extra Armor T-34 STZ  but at the same time very vulnerable and with the need to have coop-ing PIIIs tanks to clear opposing machineguns.. that could work well and would make the tank battles better.

Lots to digest in there and the new AAA and armour look great. As a single player I look forward to testing out the new ranking/difficulty system

Thanks for additions, but I don't see a way to change rank, so I'm still on a high level regardless.

I don't get the point of it except to slightly slow the point at which missions get 'too suicidal' for one side if you've ' over-played' the other.

Bugger. If thats the case its a useless change.

Ranks are not selectable but I suggest you try it out before judging. Ranks are not related to your pilot level.

 

I tried MiG-3 missions from Vnukovo, two intercept and one ground attack.

 

I think they played quite nicely. First one we intercepted a lone Ju-88, not overly difficult task for two(or was it four?) MiGs with mg pods. But it was fast and it got away, I was too slow to intercept. Mission failed.

Second intercept was 4 MiGs with rockets. When on runway AA guns fired, there was enemy fighter sweep over our airfield. Took off quickly and went for the mission. There was 3 He-111 and 2 or 4 escort Bf-109Fs. We caught them easily and it was success but I made a terrible mistake and rammed the bomber :wacko: . Had to jump.

Third one was the ground attack column with my wingman. We were escorted by 2 I-16s. We were intercepted before the target area, I-16s stayed fighting and we continued. Column was near enemy airfield so I had to circle around it but no enemy fighters in sight. It was pretty easy to complete mission by taking out few trucks. After a while I saw couple of planes circling nearby but I got greedy and decided to make another run against column. After that I had two Messerschmitts closing in and made another stupid mistake and they got couple of hits. Engine started to leak oil and I headed home. I got over friendly territory but then engine stopped and I jumped. But mission was still successful.

 

 

What I am saying is that all of those missions could be completed easily. All of those failures were my own fault, NOT the missions or their difficulty.  I made stupid mistakes and payed for it. Not one was impossible, in fact far from it.

 

I would say my first impressions are positive on those campaign improvements. I think those more random encounters count a lot in itself.

VR support for the Vive? Great news!! Im still gonna hold off any VR purchases as the first generation is always very raw.

 

Glad to see that community made 3D models are being included too!

Come on BlackSix, Han, I'm sure you already have a HTC in your Office)) get a video on YouTube to show people how it works  :) As you see many waited for this and are on the brink of ordering IL2, just a little more promotion is needed :salute:
