Thanks, Razor.  The other Heinkel pilot didn't show, so I wound up flying the Junkers (and getting killed while loading wounded soldiers....is there no respect for the red cross anymore?!?! ?).

Just our luck - flying unescorted beneath 4x bomb-carrying 190s and their 5x 109 escorts! There was a mix-up with our escort assignments, apparently .

Atlan, you don't appear to have our skins - I noticed it in last mission's pics as well.

Yes, thay was us and then we saw yoi guys jumping in the middle when we engaged the il2s but from what I remember the il2s shot u down and not the other way around ... Am I crazy? Did you get all of them?

The 109, 110 and 190 got considerable fighter capabilities also and make the balance tricky . just the way it is, I gave my JU 52 to griphos so i did not fly myself

The poor old Il-2s don't stand a chance against the 30mm. Whereas we used to be able take masses of damage and keep going now one or two hits take the wings or tail straight off. A very effective weapon indeed. How did the VVS fight against it? Or do we create an artificial situation in BoX in that too many fighters are down low, having no high altitude targets to go for? I realise that combat on the Eastern front was primarily at lower altitudes than in the West and we have combats that don't really reflect reality because of the game's limitations, but I wonder.

Assessing the main reasons for such great losses, the Air Force Commander, A Novikov, considered that poor training of the crews and units was not to blame, but attributed them to flawed tactical procedures in attack aircraft operation. On almost all fronts the pilots adopted a peculiar scheme of approaching the target at 3,300 to 4,900ft (1,000 to 1,500m) altitude without considering its nature, then gliding down and recovering after the attack with a turn, to port. The enemy therefore knew the ‘attackers’ manoeuvres beforehand, and prepared all of his anti-aircraft defences, taking full advantage of relief features, forest, bushes etc, before their appearance over the battlefield.

The German Bf 109 and Focke-Wulf Fw 190 attacked successfully when the Il-2 gunners were inattentive and the formations were broken up. A damaged and lagging Il-2 often became the victim of fighters. However, attack aircraft pilots could sometimes use skilful defensive tactics, and gunners mastered aggressive fire techniques.

 

A loss rate of 1 in 26 sorties would do me! At a rate of 3 to 4 sorties per FNBF then you Luftwaffe fighter guys would need to leave us alone for at least two months!

Hi motoadve. Due to time constraints FNBF is no longer a weekly event, but will take place now and than. Since the creative head behind FNBF has escaped the treadmill of weekly deliverance ,  FNBF missions will be even more elaborated and precious.

I do not mind it , really, But might I suggest a little change in the plane set while at it. I really hoped to fly last time, but due to no HE 111 pilots we ended up with 3 JU 52 pilots for 2 JU 52 available .

Now I would not mind flying Co pilot but sitting in gunner position is a bit off. Can we have a plan B next time. If a similar thing happens next time can we use more on one type of airplane if all slots are taken, and numbers are to few to make two flights? As said earlier the fewer FNBF the more precious
