216th_Jordan Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 (edited) Was a very fun mission, too bad my game disconnected due to bad connection 4 or 5 times. I had a friendly tank in front of me on my last run. Suddenly a shell hit it. I peeked around the corner and there was Tips PzIII at point blank to our T-34. My shell hit the ammoracks and Tips Turret flew right off. Elmarta who must have been behind Tip at that time came forth and the 2 enemy tanks had a duel at 10 meters. I finally got the lucky shot as it wasn't looking good for our T-34 either. All remaind quiet after that so I decided to take a trip to the nearby mountains on the other side of the river. There I had that beautiful view over Kalach and the river down below me, I took a rest at this romantic spot where Nocke wanted to meet me, but, as life goes, fate would decide it should not be and kicked me out for the final time. Good times Airdoc should get a medal for bravery as he was getting sealclubbed more than once and went right back. Edited July 8, 2016 by 216th_Jordan 3
[DBS]airdoc Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 They say one can find romance in the most unexpected places It was probably the hardest battering I 've ever gotten. I got wiped off 5 or 6 times (lost the count). Did not manage to get a single kill, the armor of the T34 seemed almost impenetrable. The only credit I would claim after this performance would be a "maneuver kill" of an IL-2, that crashed at the trees trying to get me, while I was shooting at the tracks of Genosse's T34 It was a great experience marching in Kalach while seeing 6 enemy aircraft making low passes all the time. You guys must have stayed over there during the start of the mission for about 20 minutes, until JG came for our support. S! 1
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted July 9, 2016 Posted July 9, 2016 (edited) Great mission, and surprisingly one with very little air-to-air action except for select moments. First me and Xenos were covering Il-2s when JG 52 arrived. In a 2 x 3, I stumbled and stalled into the ground. Xenos held up for the next 15 minutes while I made my way back, but was killed shortly after. I landed safely. After that we took MiG-3s to clear the path for the Il-2s. Nearly an hour went by without contact, when suddenly a Bf-109 appears behind me firing. I made it out without being hit, and it seems it were the same old three Bf-109s from JG 52. Xenos fought a very skillful dogfight and through teamwork we slowly started to wrestle things our way, with Jizzo bailing out after being shot down. Unfortunately due to an engine oversight Xenos had to pull a (perfect, for that matter) dead stick landing at Buzinovka or whatever the airfield to the southeast of Kalach is called, in our hands by then. After he was down I set course home when the same fate happened to me - engine quit. I noticed some friendly positions nearby and brought the MiG down on its belly with no visible damage. The aircraft were fine, and it's only a matter of getting a truck with technicians and two engines to Buzinovka and the city I stopped at to retrieve the two aircraft. The T-34 chatter was very exciting to hear, and the Il-2s did a masterful job as always. Also, thanks to 1.JaVA for the air support Edited July 9, 2016 by 55IAP_Lucas_From_Hell 3
coconut Posted July 9, 2016 Posted July 9, 2016 Thanks for that mission Tip, it was immense fun! I noticed to my horror today that the IL-2s were attacking Soviet tanks after the German ones had been destroyed. We even lost an IL-2 in a tree collision following a dive on a friendly unit. Noooooooooooo! By the way Tip, it seems some of the AI T34s got stuck in villages while on their way to the target. Maybe that explains why there was a single T34 at the objective despite the Russians' successes. 3
216th_Peterla Posted July 9, 2016 Posted July 9, 2016 (edited) Hi all, Most of the mission was battled on the ground so the pics are mostly from that offensive. Nice and interesting mission. By the way Tip, there was a Soviet AAA battery alone on our way to Kalach sided with the Germans that we took off(and I crash landed there). The battery start firing at us(maybe they drink too much?) but we didn't get friendly fire message. See u in the next one! + Edited July 9, 2016 by 216th_Peterla 8
[DBS]Tx_Tip Posted July 9, 2016 Posted July 9, 2016 Was brutal going mano a mano in the town. In retrospect should of gone with a driver and a gunner in each tank. T-34s and Il2s operating in tandem are definitely a potent force to reckon with. Quite a shellacking. Great Pics and Vid. Tip 1
GrendelsDad Posted July 9, 2016 Posted July 9, 2016 Was a rough night for the German Panzer Division that is for sure. First run Airdoc and my self were setting an ambush in Kalach as the IL2 were buzzing all around us. Not long we got the drop on T34 but I lost him and ended up 50m away from his main gun...well...the end! 2nd run airdoc and I linked up with a couple of StugIII's and followed them into the East side of Kalach. Here Jordan was lying in wait and started to pummel airdoc. I caught sight of Jordans T34 from the other side of the village. I set upon him with my main gun ripping into his front armor. Just as my second shell hit, Jordan put an end to airdoc. By this time I am locked in on the T34. after my 4th and 5th round found their mark the angry T34 had seen my muzzle flash. His first shot, 3 meters over my head. the ground shaking with the power of the shot. My 6th shot seemed to disable the T34s main gun as Jordan turned to run. He made it only few meters and it seems his tank was done. At least we got 1 Airdoc, at least we got one. And I surely couldn't have done it without you. I tell ya what pilots...you think checking your six is nerve racking, trying doing it in a tank. Its very lonely down there! and the limited FOV gives a sense of fear and worry that you dont have when you can see all around you. Mark my words IL2s I will shoot 1 of you down!!!! ONE DAY!!!!!! Jordans T34 after 7 shells from less than 200m...damn those russians build them tough! 3
216th_Peterla Posted July 9, 2016 Posted July 9, 2016 Two times I get shoot at while flying close to the Panzers but they fail to hit my plane. First was Airdoc I guess and maybe was you later. It was Southeast of Kalach. That's why I was loitering there but you were between trees and houses. Quite difficult to find you. Quite interesting. 2
1.JaVA_BlGGLES Posted July 9, 2016 Posted July 9, 2016 Great SHOW! I did three sorties in an MIG 3 Landed every time! Attack on TIP`s Stuka One half of the elevator is already blown off There goes all! It doesn't fly very well now! And then happens what you don`t want to happen! OUT OF AMMO! and on the ground is an heavy battle going on! Keben drives too fast to get a proper hit! Keben shoots Thors`s Tank in little pieces! After that he is been Attacked by friendly fire from an il2! 3 times! 1
216th_Jordan Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 (edited) Jordans T34 after 7 shells from less than 200m...damn those russians build them tough! Nice battle indeed! But it was more than 400 meters You got some very good shots on me and left me no chance but to retreat. T-34 has got some soft spots but they are hard to hit from the front. I reviewed the first track too and I was amazed to see that Genosse and I were sometimes just 300 meters away from you and airdoc in the kalach without seeing you. I remember saying to Genosse that I don't want to enter the town by the road in case of an ambush Btw: It was very intense to see all those aircraft circling above the city, it looked stunning! [DBS]Tx_Tip Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 Mission #43 "Kalach" AAR Campaign Aircraft StatsPilot Stats* Excellent Mission. Well Flown All.Participation makes it happen.Tip 1
[DBS]Tx_Tip Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 No rankings for the tank boys? What a pity! Unfortunately IL2 Stats does not recognize Player controlled Tanks. Within the AAR the Tank/Action numbers are what players destroyed with their Tanks. 1
[DBS]Tx_Tip Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 No mission this Friday Folks. The FNBFs Campaign for Stalingrad is over. Wrapping it up and will post Final Stats sometime later this week. Thanks, Tip
