I might borrow that chain saw if that's OK, my experiments show that using the propeller to chop birch trees is largely ineffective.

Hi Tip. I'll be around on Friday after all. As the Il-2s are taken I'd like to be on standby for one if anyone drops out, but I'll join Lucas and co in the LaGGs if they don't.

Cheers.

Very tough night for VVS.

Luftwaffe came in force and were very well organized. Salute all , you got me well couple of times.

Nice drag and bag from a pair of 109's I was fighting with Tomcat. I think it was Schuck.

We very outnumbered though so I think surviving was a great success. I nearly died once , three times my canopy was shot up but my pilot was not wounded.

Thanks to Razor and Lucas for staying on comms and trying to cooperate.

Here's a little video...

I got my first event kill today! Bounced a Stuka as he climbed out of a dive and ripped his wing clean off.

But then my desire to achieve glory for the Motherland got the best of me. I ignored squadron orders and followed a 109 deep behind enemy lines...got close to making a stealth 'shark attack' kill from below when the base flak betrayed me. Next thing I knew I was in a bee hive of angry 109s and augured into the ground trying to get out of 5tuka's gun sights.

I must learn everything the hard way :(;)

Not a great night for me - but still fun. My skills as a fighter pilot are extremely poor, but on the first mission I did manage to discover and attack a pair of Stukas who were after our tanks. Don't think that I landed a single hit on them but then, right behind one and it filling my sights... out of ammo! Bah humbug.

Second mission covering the Il-2s high above Kalach we eventually spotted and were spotted by two or three 109s. After some cagey circling by both sides I eventually lost the one I was tracking in the sun. Trying to find him again, it soon became obvious where he was - behind and below my tail and the shells were whistling past my ear.

No hits on me yet and I roll to avoid

2016_7_1__21_25_51_zps2rd5yrzz.png

but unfortunately he's too close and clips my tail and then my wing

2016_7_1__21_28_0_zps66aaehm5.png

and BOOM! we're both killed

2016_7_1__21_28_31_zpsiynxwkiq.png

although my plane appears to have come off the worse, but then he miraculously turns into a pile of shreds

2016_7_1__21_30_1_zpswou57ca4.png

and disappears. Leaving me to watch the wreckage of my plane plummet into the Don alone. Not even a goodbye. ;)  I've not seen such a speedy disconnect for years. Oh well.

Cheers.

For us in IL-2s the start of the mission was a bit overwhelming with action wherever we wanted to go, and ground units desperately asking for our cover. But in the second half, we had a hard time finding things to shoot. Nocke and I need new eyes, I think.

In the video below we are hitting ground targets hard (and some flying non-targets as well, sorry Peterla). Later, with less than 10 minutes left we are going home minding our own business when a pesky 109 thinks he can come and cause trouble. Our cunning strategy of looking like helpless bombers without escort lures him towards us, and then enters Peterla to deliver an unexpected blow (actually the escort and the IL-2s had lost contact with eachother, but it played well in the end).

We lost pod when he had to attend a flooded basement, I hope he is well.

We lost pod when he had to attend a flooded basement, I hope he is well.

Since the basement is the place where my pc is, it was quite hard to concentrate on flying. After I hit a tree in the first run, I saw the water coming in and had to quit.

The whole (wooden) floor is wet and there is also water below it so I have a lot of work to do in the next weeks :(

But the 30 mins we flew together were great as ever!

Had a rather uneventfull mission.. saw some unexpected partners in Pe like Zoltan, who unfortunatly was disconnected 2 times.. made 2 trips to the factory. I kind of refused to divebomb and thus did not meet neither the AAA or the lone 109 down low (I think it was Gelber Hund).. on the first trip I dropped right between the buildings and did only splash damage but I got a fire and a message on the 2nd run, having adapted better to weather and target. Just for fun I accidentally lost a bomb on the secretow runway, which I had used as nav-point and I needed a mark to make it visually stand out better.

On the way back from the 2nd trip, I could see chat indicating fighting nearby and tried to cover Coconut and Co. but I could not find the 109s in time, so with just minutes of missiontime I last-minute-landed in Zety to try the cantina there.

That's only half the truth...I actually sacrifised myself to protect the Stukas by giving them time to escape. ;)

Fun aside you have done well evading my shots and I truely had to be cautioned not to go too low/slow and be catched by an upset IL-2.

Still the first round went quite well for us so I don't mind that small defeat too much

Hi gents,

First of all I got 5stuka with a borrowed Yak1 from Zety on a sneaky attack but then, after a wise flare launch by the enemy, I got caught by 2 109's and end up in front of Jizzo's maschinengewehr. Anyways the two IL2's escaped, that was the goal.

Lets get a quick AAR from the IL2 flights that I was present:

-1st Sortie, Lyapichev. We move towards the city and encountered some armour and AA. We got them all thanks to our escorts that were dealing with a lot of enemy fighters. We lost couple aircrafts(two IL2's and some escort fighters) and manage to regroup and attack enemy positions in Kalach. I was hit by AAA and need to RTB but I crash landed somewhere in 1320 due to fuel starvation(my fuel tanks were punctured)

-2nd Sortie, was directly towards Kalach, to get rid of more stuff left in the first offensive. We attack several positions and during an attack run on two Stug III I didn't notice Coco's Il2 bombing run and end up very close to one of his bombs(that was my fault) and my aircraft was severe damaged. I decide to throw all my rocktes to the nearby enemy positions and RTB. In one of the pics you can saw the damage; I don't even know how I made it to base but I landed safely and the plane was not lost.

-3rd Sortie, When I was going to respawn on Zety I saw that the base was under attack. I just jumped on a Yak to try an interception of the bombers but I was unable to spot them. While doing that I saw Coconut and Nocke landing on Zety and decide to keep my ride and give them some cover. Close to the ending time we manage to arrive to Novomaksimovsky but we didn't find something worth. During the flight back, the IL2's encountered what looks like a flight of Stukas being escorted by a lonely 109 who later attack them. The rest of the action can be seeing on Coconut's video and in some of my pics.

I was struggling to spot them(yes, I'm really bad) and I was getting nervous about the situation, not being able to help. Finally I saw the 109 and follow him until I got on a popper position to get him forever. That nice feeling of get him off the skies was darkened when I saw those red flares popping out the ill fated plane, thinking than more "friendlies" we'll come soon to avenge his comrade, and in the end, that was it.

Nice mission!

S!

PS: Thanks to Lucas and NN_Razor for the excellent work to keep us alive and maintaining the coms. Without you we're just sitting ducs  ;)

Joined in late in this mission, and was asked to grab a 109 and provide cover for the Stukas.

In the 1st sortie, I didn't manage to get to their position in time, kept patrol over Kalach at about 5000m, thinking that the fellow Yak pilots wouldn't be able to catch up. Loosened my scanning of the skies and tried to find targets below, when I realised that a Yak was closing on my six. I dodged the first pass, but didn't see the second Yak that was coming in, which damaged my plane in the next pass. Knowing that another wave of friendly bombers were closing to Lyapichev, I tried to fly damaged as long as I could, dragging the Yaks to the North-East. I didn't last long, I got the final shot after a few minutes. It was the NN-guys.

In the 2nd sortie I escorted the Stukas all the way to a target N-E of Lyapichev. They dropped their bombs and turned SW to rtb. I left them when they cleared Lyapichev, after I spotted a single Yak and some 109s above. It got pretty messy quickly. One of the higher 109s made a pass at me, fortunately he didn't fire his guns. 5Tuka joined the action in another 109, where we spotted Tomcat's Yak, pushed it down to the ground and took turns on him, each booming and zooming. It was a really nice cooperation between us and Tomcat showed some excellent low-altitude dodging skills, avoiding at least 8 passes until he was down. S!

overall great mission, enjoyed it thoroughly

Very fun mission for sure! :)

My first sortie was eventful - me, Xenos, Cat and Rekt took off from Karpovka (quite a few LaGG-3s vanished out of thin air from the airfield by the way, not sure why) and went to the combat area. We met several groups of Bf-109s, and some Ju-87s which Rekt and Cat scared off. In the first engagement I was damaged and lost one horizontal stabiliser plus some fuel tank damage. As we met the Ju-87s and Bf-109 escort, Xenos was shot down by 5tuka and I went in for revenge. Apparently however I followed the wrong Bf-109 and 5tuka himself came and shot me down - I couldn't recover from the spin since my rudder was irresponsive and I had a missing elevator, and the parachute opened too low. Rekt then fell victim to 5tuka (again) later on, and only Cat made it back from that group.

The second time around me (in a Yak-1 after 6 LaGG-3s mysteriously disappeared from Zety), Cat and RampageZGamer were over Kalach with the 307th Squadron higher up. Some Bf-109s came in at 6000m and fought with the 307 before going down for us. Cat was killed in a mid-air while I took some hits but made it back with black smoke and all kinds of fluids leaking from the aircraft. When I parked I had the chance to look around, there were holes in every single part of the aircraft from the tail to the cockpit and both wings. Rampage made it back in one piece :)

Big thanks to Banzai, Razor and Peterla for the constant support!

Who's a lucky boy then Tip?

I've checked my first sortie. Marta was the fortunate Stuka pilot that found me behind him - twice - and the best I could manage was a small hole in his wing. Tip then drifted across my sights and I fired a couple of warning shots (!) at him, then following along the ground, got nicely into position...

stuka%20tip_zpss2hfosnd.png

...and that's the precise moment my ammo ran out. And to rub salt into the wound Marta coming along behind gave me a bigger hole in the wing (and more) than I'd done to him, so I went home leaking fuel and feeling the wind on my face through the large holes in the canopy. At least I did get it home safe.

Cheers.

Just call me Mr. Lucky then...  ;)

T'was a fine mission and good fun.

Hope you get your basement repaired Pod and your hardware back up to speed Lusekofte.

=============================================================

@Lucas did you mean that the Laggs just disappeared from the Airbases. Started with 12 @ Zety and 6 @ Karpovka South. There were 8 pilots that flew 10 sorties. 3 were shot down and 1 crashed. The rest show as landed and should have been RRR'd and good to go after 3 minutes.

@coconut. Looks like the game may have dropped a StG and a Zis-AA from their routes which would of started 2 separate convoys had they been destroyed along with the rest of the groups they were in. The counters were set up for the total # within their group to set off the other convoys. Or of course you two missed a StG and we missed the Zis. Which is possible as well. However I can say there was a very large Axis convoy that went un-molested.

This dropping of vehicles and the Laggs disappearing from the bases might be related to the new updates. Unknown though as it looks good within the ME.

Edit... Looks like the Base at Karpovka South would not of RRR'd those after-all. My error on that. However the 12 @ Zety should have RRR'd.

=============================================================

Great Pics, Vids and AARs as per usual folks.

The LaGGs at Karpovka disappeared while I sat there. After my first sortie I had clicked on one (six available) but not spawned; when I came back five or so minutes later to spawn they were all gone and I had to go to Zety to get one.

Cheers.

That was Tomcat and myself attacking you on your first sortie. I got some shots on you , saw you trailing dark gray smoke and popping your canopy.

We thought you are going to bail out or head home, to our surprise you kept going and even started to chase us. That's when Razor showed up and finished you off.
