Cheaters who log out when they lose the advantage

Recommended Posts

I'm new to BOS but have played ROF for some time. Since starting playing BOS I've been flying 109's. Several times I've had eyes on an enemy in a fight and as soon as they think

the fight has turned against them they will disappear. At that very moment a player logs off the server! I'm sure this kind of thing occurs on both sides but it is ruining the game for me!

I'd like to see a mandatory 15 minute ban for anyone who logs off to discourage this. I'm sure this happens because players justify doing it because someone on the other side did it to them.

It's bad enough we have to deal with trolls and those who want to spend the entire game name-calling.

This SUCKS!

Poor sports and stat worshipers have been a part of online gaming since it's inception.

Nothing you can do but laugh at them and move along.

I've seen this too. RoF has a 15 second delay, so should BoS

It's more complex than that - the delay is there, but the types who do it Alt-F4 straight out of the game.

On the other hand, see it as an advantage: you cleared out an enemy aircraft without having to waste your ammo. Cowards don't live long, they say :)

That and the ones who bail out.

Not much to be done saddly.

You need to hit him ones. I mean a single bullet that hit him somewhere with or without a damage on his plane it doesnt matter. If he bail out or log off even if he do Alt-F4 straight out of the game you still get the kill message that you shot him down.

It would be good if there was a real world punishment for people who do this. Say, a script that is downloaded along with the mission files and which wipes their inputs when they Alt-F4 out of the game and makes them have to remap all their controls.

So if the game freezes or crashes and you have to force quit the application, you would be punished thusly?

That is the rub though isn't it. The random crash or clueless guys don't bother me much. It's the overt stat whores and gamers. The guys who consistently disconnect, eject or dive at aaa to deny a pilot his kill. I play for KD so I'm a bit of a stat whore myself but I take my medicine when bested.

I think a kick vote should have a separate category for cheaters. Anyone kick voted under this title would be banned for a week from the server. That way it is community driven.

I do not need a punishment script to have to live the remapping 3 times a week Win 10 and BOS help force me to remap in any circumstance.

I understand, but dangerous. Would people who lose connections because of a crash be also penalised?

MWO does this. My game crashed and I was forced to ctrl+alt+delete out. When I went back in I had a time penalty. It`s annoying being penalised for something beyond your control.

Way I see it, you cannot fully control cheaters on the net in something like this  because then the innocent suffers- it`s not worth it.

Some of my best moments in this game are when you are at a severe disadvantage and then turn the tables on the other pilot...I look forward to these moments.

Even if you get that message, the stats will not count it. I think it is one of the major flaws in the stats system that they encourage disconnecting. I would rather see the stats count the disconnected pilot as shot down. I think the game is stable enough for it and it is not a big deal if there are a couple of "wrong" disconnect deaths in the stats compared to the disconnecting habit to boost stats. Or if the stat system wants to encourage the quitters, they could still count the kill for the one that shot them down, even if keeping the death out of the quitters stats.

The guys who consistently disconnect, eject or dive at aaa to deny a pilot his kill.

You consider dragging enemy to AAA also cheating? That is a new one. How about people that keep maneuvering instead of flying straight to deny a pilot his kill?

I think Murf is referring to people who throw themselves onto enemy AAA when a fight goes to their disadvantage. So that they can take the credit for the kill away from the other player.

Ah okay. I don't understand the point of it as he would get shot down anyway, but human minds work in mysterious ways, so I guess someone could get pleasure from that, too.

Sorry Murf for misunderstanding your point.

If I remember correctly stat tracks the number of disco and compute a FairPlay index that can be used to add a penalty to your score.

Anyway I played quite a lot online and disco rarely happen. It's more likely you just lost the guy in the landscape

This

Diving at enemy AAA just to deny credit to the winning pilot. No strafing or bombing of the AAA, just intentional headlong suicide.

Happens at berloga all the time. But you et the kill if you only already scored a hit.

So right there its part of the game.

Crash to desktop sim sounds good...read this today during a MP sortie how people complained about this ...if you are scratching your head, wondering why he disconnected and he is wondering why he see his desktop with a big Error Message that the game crashed. You are angry and he is angry, too. Both are unhappy.

THIS definately. But not because people are disconnecting. That happens in other games as well. For me this isnt a sim because of the FMs and the simplicity of engine management.

I've seen this a lot! However, there are occasions where I've been attacked and going down, then the game suddenly crashes. I'm sure to jump back in and let the guy know it was a game crash.

I made a topic once about this, imagine flying PE 2 since it was introduced , being a flying target practice for all axis fighters for years now all I get is this.

When shooting down or damage a attacking fighter a chat yell like "sniper gunners" and they abandon the server.

These people expect me to fight on to the end but wont do it them selves.

But many times you get these serious pilots that have the respect for a fellow enthusiast and stick to the game. Meeting those make me realize that maybe there are more fair people on servers and we just remember the few who is not.

There are quite a lot of dedicated pilots out there, you only need to find the servers they fly on

A great line: "never assume a conspiracy when a simple explanation of incompetence will suffice".  In other words, you're right.  The other guy might have quit or he might have been disconnected.  You don't really know.

That's the point of the OP. It's not a sim when the players are more concerned with their score than the outcome. When all that matters is ones status on the score board than the objective of the mission it is no longer a sim but a pissing contest.

The OP is not whining about the disconnector but is whining he didn't get a +1 on the score board.

They should do away with the score board so folk, like the OP, can enjoy the game or move on.

When is the last time you played a sim or combat game without a scoreboard? When's the last time a RL combat pilot didn't keep a personal score? Or paint it on his plane? Let's be moderately realistic here. The scoring system isn't bad and it isn't going away.

Douches gonna douche regardless of the scoring system (or lack of one). The argument against this cheat is little different than the eight pages dedicated to parachute kills last month.

There are a couple on my list who never seen to lose a connection while they are offensively maneuvering but pretty regularly have their computer "crash" when bounced or in a long pursuit.

Stop blaming poor behavior on outside forces. Stop shifting blame for personal responsibility. I take the stats hit when bested because it's the honorable thing to do and usually compliment the winning pilot.

Disco to avoid a kill is cowardice in the face of no real world risk. It should offend the community and there should be some repercussions for the obvious abusers. Simply, poor behavior is on the individual.

And whining in a forum about ones score card is poor behaviour to me. Maybe a couple of days ban from the forum as repercussion? Whining about the loss of a virtual kill is kind of pathetic. It's all a matter of perspective.

Who's whining. I'm perfectly happy with my, "score." And it's respectable because I take my medicine when bested. Also, without checking too closely, only one disco that I can recall on my end.

Looks like you did not understand the point here, Blunder. The ones that are disconnecting when getting shot down are the ones that are cheating to get a better position in a "pissing contest". People on this thread want that to stop and the stats to represent the real happenings and getting real statistical feedback that way. And about Con's comment, it is not a sim when during a battle one plane just disappears, when in trouble, stats or no stats.

Yes lets have the devs throw resources into dealing with this, in my opinion, non issue. because this game is perfect as is.

Kemp, I know what he meant. How is it cheating to get a better position? they get no position. They take themselves out of the game. It's a win win unless one is obsessed with ones score. Then it becomes whining.

To be fair, I think discussions regarding score and online play should be limited to those who have more than 15 minutes of flight time... this YEAR... on the servers in question.

To be fair, if the devs use their resources to deal with the lack of MP, SP content and the hacks that are being swept under the carpet, instead of having to deal with pointless whining about virtual kills or lack of, and how to waste resources dealing with it, maybe myself and others would spend more time online and off. As it is all that seems to be left playing this game are the score obsessed whiners. Next time somebody asks the question "why are so few people playing online?" maybe you could point them in the direction of this thread. You reap what you sow.

Wow, red herring much? Nothing is being swept under the rug. What you have mentioned is easily found in these forums and has been addressed by the Devs. Open a new thread if you want to discuss those issues further. Back on topic now shall we?

Seriously? You accuse people that want honest stats of being pissing contestants, but at the same time don't see how the quitters get into better position? Now, lets say that in a basketball game one team gets points when they put a ball in a basket, but the other team gets their possessions canceled just as they shoot the ball. You see no advantage to either team? Or having a leaderboard of shooting accuracy - and for some players not counting the missed attempts. Don't see how those players get a boost in that leaderboard?

Now, let's imagine a Luftwaffe debrief during Battle of Britain, your style:

Göring: Sperrle, give me report of last Stuka mission.

Sperrle: It was a great success. 50 Stukas participated, 2 tonnes on target. 6 Stukas returned home, 2 were shot down, the rest managed to vanish when coming under attack by Spitfires.

Göring: Very good. Order more Stuka attacks! Do you want any escort?

Sperrle: No need for escort, but request to Junkers factories to wire the disappear button to stick to keep losses at zero.

Göring: Will be done. Now, Galland, you had an air superiority mission. What did you manage to shoot down, what about losses? Give me your report!

Galland: What do you mean by report? It is not a pissing contest. We just fly around and don't count such silly stats.

Göring: Very sorry for whining. In Great War we used to count that. I have a Knight's Cross here that I would like to give to someone to boost morale.

Galland: Hard to say, because we are not keeping any stats. One guy did manage to upset Tommies by disappearing with a plane that was on fire and without a wing just a couple of meters before hitting ground.

Göring: That is the true fighter pilot spirit. Knight's Cross on it's way.
