Jade_Monkey Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 HI everyone, I'm creating a mission that involves planes flying together. Eventually the bombers collide in mid air and same thing happens with the escort. I tried the formation command (loose, safe etc) and none of them work. I remember reading a thread about this a long time ago, but cant find it anymore. Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks! -JM
Jade_Monkey Posted April 12, 2016 Author Posted April 12, 2016 Anyone knows how to avoid AI planes to crash? They get really close among them:
JimTM Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 (edited) When are you issuing the formation command, e.g., after/before a take-off command? Are you setting up the formation correctly and object linking the formation command to the leader? Here's a couple of links to check: - http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/15309-fly-formation-problem/ - http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/16011-formation-trigger-editor-does-not-seem-work/ Edited April 12, 2016 by JimTM

Thanks for the quick response!
JimTM Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 You're welcome JM. The formation command is definitely for the leader only.
coconut Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Large formations have been problematic for a while. I limit myself to pairs for fighters and triplets for bombers.
Jade_Monkey Posted April 13, 2016 Author Posted April 13, 2016 (edited) It didnt work either. As soon as they turn they dont keep a distance and their paths converge into the same spot, the propellers eventually hitting another plane's tail. Anyone knows how to see the missions build for the campaign? There used to be a way using the track recorder but it seems like that's not the case anymore? The campaign's formations work well, I'd like to see what they do. Edited April 13, 2016 by Jade_Monkey
coconut Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Did you give them a formation order? If not I guess they might be keeping their respective positions you give them in the editor, in which case you could try leaving more space between them.
Jade_Monkey Posted April 14, 2016 Author Posted April 14, 2016 Yes, i tried the loose, safe etc, nothing seems to work. is there any way to see the mission files for the campaign?
JimTM Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 (edited) Yes, i tried the loose, safe etc, nothing seems to work. is there any way to see the mission files for the campaign? If you are still having problems, can you post your mission here. Here is how you can see a campaign mission: Edit the Mission That You Just Played You can edit a mission that you just played, which is useful if you want to edit the following: - A mission generated by the BoS Quick Mission Builder (QMB) - A BoS built-in single mission or campaign mission Do the following: 1. Navigate to your game folder and then directory \data\Missions. 2. Copy file _gen.mission and rename the copy to newname.mission, where newname is whatever you want to call the new mission. Note: _gen.mission is the latest mission that you played. 3. Open the renamed mission in the editor. 4. In the Mission Properties, specify the new name in the Name field and change the Mission Type to "single" (for a single-player mission) or "deathmatch" (for a multiplayer mission). Jade_Monkey Posted April 26, 2016 Author Posted April 26, 2016 For some reason i assumend that gen method didnt work for campaign. Ill give a it a shot tonight. Thanks for the response!
JimTM Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 And here is a small test mission that demos formations. It may be easier to pick apart than the campaign mission. JimTM-FollowAnAIFormationFlight.zip
coconut Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Edit the Mission That You Just Played You can edit a mission that you just played, which is useful if you want to edit the following: - A mission generated by the BoS Quick Mission Builder (QMB) - A BoS built-in single mission or campaign mission - A mission that you joined online Are you sure that online missions produce a _gen.mission? I think you can find mission and/or msnbin files in the following locations: - data/Tracks/XXXX/, for all mission types (campaign, single, multiplayer, QMB). All you need to do is record a track after joining/starting the mission. - data/Multiplayer/, for online missions - data/Missions/_gen.mission for generated missions (QMB, campaign) 1
JimTM Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 (edited) Are you sure that online missions produce a _gen.mission? No, that's an error. Corrected. Thanks! Edited April 26, 2016 by JimTM
Jade_Monkey Posted April 27, 2016 Author Posted April 27, 2016 Thanks guys. I dont have a lot of time tonight, but I'll try testing this week!
No601_Swallow Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 Jacko, I only use pairs (and triplets). One other thing I always check is that my waypoints are nice and generous - 200m diameter! As we know, AI is always going to be a work-in-progress thing - for instance, the refusal of AI to initiate a fight in MP!
Jade_Monkey Posted May 25, 2016 Author Posted May 25, 2016 Yes, i re-did all the object and target arrows and it worked, so most likely human error.
