DD_Perfesser Posted May 5, 2018 Posted May 5, 2018 Most of my issues went away when I used the oldest driver I could find on the Nvidia site.
Pif-Paf Posted May 7, 2018 Posted May 7, 2018 (edited) Sorry for a flood of complaints. I found the cause of my crashes in my new memory DIMMs. memtest86 reveled one stick was buggy with 1 bit activating on its own (test #6 showed the problem, other tests passed just fine). Windows memory diagnostics didn't find it that made me believe the memory was fine. Since I bought the game together with new GTX 1070 and new memory, I had no good reference point. Today I can confirm IL2 3.002c with Nvidia drivers 397.31 works no problem. No crashes since I removed buggy memory module. Edited May 7, 2018 by Pif-Paf 1
Mordrac Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 When you encountered the crash; in combat, WoL server In what game mode (MP/QMB/campaign/scenario); Multiplayer, Dogfight In what mission; malayazemlya43k-wl-301-03n What did you do before the crash; Joined a larger furball What happened in the mission before the crash; Nothing in particular, just lots of planes around Additional info you think is relevant to the crash. In the past few days I've been getting screen freezes in the same situation: joining a larger aircraft fight in the vicinity, with about a dozen aircraft or more. Screen frozen, Audio was still working fine. I heard my aircraft pick up speed and crash into the ground, the server picked up the crash. Those freezes started around the Win10 1803 update. I normally use MSI afterburner. Today I didn't use afterburner and default GPU settings, and I got this crash instead of the usual freeze about 50 minutes in, while in a big flock of aircraft. I restarted the game again, but turned on afterburner and then it was a screen freeze after just about 10 minutes (again, while in a larger air battle, and in same server and mission). Balzarog Posted July 20, 2018 Posted July 20, 2018 (edited) I bought Flying Circus Vol. 1 Yesterday. Every time I start up from steam, I get a blue screen of death either when I select the SPAD XIII or the Fokker DR1 in the Quick Missions. It has happened as soon as I hit start, after flying for a few minutes, and while in the IL-2 Main settings screen. I don't have this issue in RoF, or in DCS,, so I'm pretty sure it is related to BoS. I'm running Windows 7 with 32BB RAM and an NVDA GTX 1080 Video card with 8GB of VRAM, and up to date driver. I received the following message: Problem signature: Problem Event Name: BlueScreen OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3 Locale ID: 1033 Additional information about the problem: BCCode: c2 BCP1: 0000000000000007 BCP2: 000000000000109B BCP3: 0000000000000000 BCP4: FFFFFA8000000100 OS Version: 6_1_7601 Service Pack: 1_0 Product: 768_1 Files that help describe the problem: C:\Windows\Minidump\072018-135486-01.dmp C:\Users\Deane\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-181101-0.sysdata.xml I'm ignorant of Windows. I run Win 7 in Boot Camp on my Mac Pro 2010 Hex-Core, and have never had a BSOD in my 6 years of using Win 7 in Boot Camp. As I said, I've tested a number of sims I tried to attach the minidump jiles, but was told I didn't have access. UPDATE: I just started BoS on VR through Steam and flew in VR for about an hour with no BSOD. I flew the Spitfire Mk IX, the SPAD XIII, and the Fokker DR1 with no issues. That sort of tells me that the issue is with starting through the IL-2 game site, and is not an issue if I start through Steam VR. Edited July 20, 2018 by Balzarog Additional Information

w_ar Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 (edited) Since about June, the game starting freezing / CTD Configuration: Windows 10, VR (HTC Vive), i7-8790K, GTX1080Ti, T.16000M HOTAS, Medium Settings Interestingly, crashes only happen in Multiplayer and Career mode, never in Quick Missions and Scripted Campaigns. Activated Error Reporting in Windows - will report back after the next crash. Memory, CPU and Graphics Card are checked throughly with stress testing tools - no failures. What can I do? Edit (Oct 16): My crash problems escalated to frequent BSODs, either with the error code SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED or similar exceptions. I could finally trace this down to a WIN8_DRIVER_FAULT (I run Windows 10, mind you...) and then identify the Logitech Gaming Software (LGS) with its accompanying drivers as the culprit. Purging the system of any trace of Logitech drivers seems to have solved the problem for now (and, as it happens, I bought and installed a new Logitech mouse & keyboard in June, which also fits to the start of the troubles). Over the last few days, I could finish several Blazing Steppe missions and even continue a few Career mission without as much as a crash to desktop.Curiosly, frame rates have improved as well. So, for those of you who have the LGS software running, uninstalling it and killing all remaining drivers with the pnputil command line tool if necessary might fix your problem. Give it a try (but back up any Logitech gaming profiles you might have created in case it doesn't fix your crash issues). P.S.: As a sidenote for all those who have the annoying "breathing effect" on the Logitech keyboard and/or mouse coming back every time the computer restarts, this is how I got rid of it: 1. Open the Logitech Gaming Software and disable the breathing effect. 2. Now kill the LGS using the Task Manager 3. Uninstall LGS from your system. Edited October 15, 2018 by w_ar Problem solved
SquashmanMikeEH Posted October 29, 2018 Posted October 29, 2018 (edited) I get game freeze whenever I press keys for the following key bindings - Show/Hide entire HUD Show/Hide Instrument Panel Aiming Help Tested in SP (QMB & Scripted Campaign) From the screen freeze I have to exit via Windows Task-Manager and restart game. I have graphic settings at near maximum but have tried turning all graphics settings way, way down - No difference! I have tried Administrator + compatibility mode (for my system - Windows 7) - No difference! My PC specs are; Nvidia 1080, 16 Gb RAM, i7 4.8Gb, Liquid cooling etc - so it should be able to handle the load. The freezes happen both with VR (Oculus Rift CV1) and with Trackir. I also get screen-freeze when not using any head tracking or VR, but just using pan-view from the stick hat. All settings are Ultra + max Frame rates are high throughout at Target rate - ie. steady 60+ Gameplay is good quality and smooth, until I press one of the above mentioned keys - then complete freeze. Edit All the above occurs with HUD selected to be shown as default - if I de-select HUD as default, the game plays normally and I can switch the above mentioned service commands on and off without getting the screen freeze. Don't know if this is normal or a bug - hope this information helps. Il-2_exe_5236.dmp.zip Edited October 29, 2018 by SquashmanMikeEH

Redglyph Posted November 19, 2018 Posted November 19, 2018 (edited) Crash to desktop, during a career mission, it's not the first time it happens. IL-2 version 3.006, win7 x64, GTX 980 Ti (nVidia driver version 397.93) Note: I had to rename the .7z to .7zip for this to be uploaded here. When you encountered the crash During the flight, when executing the mission In what game mode (MP/QMB/campaign/scenario) Career mission What did you do before the crash Just after bombing a target with a Bf-109 G2, on Kuban map. I think I had just switched on the instrument panel and labels a few seconds earlier, to get confirmation of the planes close by. I ran the same mission 3 times, - the first time I bombed the target and no problem, I restarted because I did something silly too close to the ground, - with the 2nd tentative my engine apparently quit during take-off even though I was only at 2500 RPM and 1.2 ATA, my gauges in the green, - the 3rd had this crash. Career settings are: speed realistic, mission starts on RWY, difficulty moderate, density scattered, I'm usually not displaying the instrument panel, nor labels, map, ... The graphics options are set to maximum, in 1920x1080. There are many targets on the road, and enemy aircraft protecting them, so the environment may be more loaded than average, but nothing excessive, no apparent slow-down of the framerate. Long story short, dismantled everything again, cleaned all PCIe slots from dust and sealed the old GPU's contacts with "Kontakt 61", put new thermal grease between CPU and cooler (even though the 1st attempt looked great after dismantling it) and.... lo and behold, 10° lower temps on the CPU and no CTDs anymore so far. Try deleting your startup.cfg in "iL-2 sturmovik/data" then let steam check the integrity of the files to replace it. *keep a copy of the file just in case* I had this problem when graphic settings conflicted with what the game wants or because the resolution was incorrect. Your graphics settings can be edited in the startup cfg in the "[KEY = graphics]" section as well. If you guys are using reshade, crashing could also occur. But usually it is after starting a mission and not having x4 anti-aliasing selected. We need some more details. Did you guys change settings and this happened?? New hardware, controls, software? 1

Tops1 Posted June 30, 2019 Posted June 30, 2019 (edited) Hi, Have a bit of a head scratcher... When I load any mission what I get after unpausing the "Start pause" - more often than not anyway - is a second or less of active game where it appears to be running fine - the prop is spinning, all seems right. Then it's all frozen in place... the only option is the escape menu, I click finish mission no luck, restart mission nothing either. The crash I have never seems to generate a crash dump file (.dmp file) in the appdata/local/crash dumps Despite having enabled these files to appear if the game crashes. I see a "launcher.exe.backup.12716.dmp" but backup I suppose suggests something else. I run the game in in - --1920x1080 Fullscreen Res No 4k preferred textures. Autoscaled interface (Same in launcher as it is for in game settings - For Rs, 4k, and auto scale) Shadows -medium. mirrors - simple. Distant landscape detail - normal Horizon draw distant - 150km Landscape filter - off grass -normal clouds -medium target FPS -60 Dynamic resolution factor - full AA - 2 HDR - enabled Trackir 4 (No VR headset, don't own one) Online purchase of game (non-steam version) I turned down the resolution only when this problem first happened, fiddled around with graphics settings a little but didn't touch anything major just reduced AA, SSAO set to off, shadows to medium and distance landscape reduced - however this has happened ever since I purchased the aforementioned rig, game ran fine on the other computer. I am running the following rig O/S - Win 10 x64 Home edtion Intel Core i7-7700K CPU - 4.20GHz, Quad Core GTX 1080 Samsung SSD 960 EVO Hard drive 250GB 16 GB RAM As mentioned no crash dump file appears I have enabled .dmp files to appear if a crash occurs, nothing at all has appeared in the crash dump folder. I've tried to provide as much info as I can think of - of course without a .dmp it's a bit tricky Cheers, Gravy1 Edited June 30, 2019 by Gravy1 Additional info to help with reply on error
Tops1 Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 From the previous post - when the game loads into mission/campaign/quick mission the error only occurs after pressing the trackir un-pause (as distinct from the pause key in game I hope this helps to explain, and helps anyone else with similar issue's - I just don't know how to solve at this stage. Cheers, Gravy1
SOB_Cygnus Posted August 2, 2019 Posted August 2, 2019 (edited) EDIT: FIXED! The computer was brand new and the sound driver installation had an error or was incomplete. Once I fixed it, it booted right up! I'm having an issue with a new computer. I open the game, it starts to load the red bar in the lower left about 5% and then reverts to desktop. I get no error message, no program not responding. It just stops. Computer is brand new, I9 9900k, RTX2080. I am not running any overlays that I know of. Geforce experience is off. I already tried changing to C root directory and redownloaded and installed the whole 14GB again. Same issue. Please help! No logs are present. Not sure if this sheds any light on it but the bar will advance a bit, then drop back down, then advance to its previous position, then crash to desktop with no error. Also, it exhibits the same behavior on steam and in native launcher. One more thing I noticed is that the IL2 Sturmovik Logo seems to appear larger just before the game crashes to desktop. I looked at the Windows Event Viewer, and it says the Faulting Module is SoundEngine.dll. I removed that file and deleted my Updates folder. Ran the game and it updated and replaced that file. That did not fix it. So now, after the update, the game tries to start in VR mode. I see the logo as one screen, then immediately I see the dual vr screens and then it crashs. I now notice a Warning in the event viewer SteamService.dll.new. So, I Validate the Steam VR tool. That also did not fix it. Here is my IL-2 SoundEngine.dll Event log error: Faulting application name: Il-2.exe, version: 1.0.0.1, time stamp: 0x5d3714bf Faulting module name: SoundEngine.dll, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x5d3711dc Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0x0000000000003994 Faulting process id: 0x4c60 Faulting application start time: 0x01d56cb434da481d Faulting application path: D:\My Programs\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\bin\game\Il-2.exe Faulting module path: D:\My Programs\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\bin\game\SoundEngine.dll Report Id: 135c48e0-4347-4679-868d-20d1fb64720c Faulting package full name: Faulting package-relative application ID: Here is my SteamService.dll.new Event log Warning: Warning: SteamService: Revalidate: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Steam\SteamService.dll.new When you encountered the crash; (See Above) In what game mode (MP/QMB/campaign/scenario); (none) In what mission; (none) What did you do before the crash; (nothing) What happened in the mission before the crash; (nothing) Additional info you think is relevant to the crash. [DBS]airdoc Posted October 6, 2019 Posted October 6, 2019 (edited) I have been having an issue for about a year now. My game would crash, and this would happen right after a got a pop up window saying "error loading object .xxxx" (not the same each time). Usually, this was preceded by a weird bug when in map view -portions of the map would become red squares when zooming in-out. I used to fix this by updating to the latest drivers. After the latest patch, it appeared again, I did a complete reinstall and everything seemed to work fine. However, after the hotfix, I can't play the game at all. I am running an i5-6600k, windows 10, 16gb of ram and a Radeon 580 8GB card. Attached are 2 crash dump files. EDIT: sometimes I also get the message "the instruction at referenced memory 0x..... could not be read". CrashDumps.rar Edited October 6, 2019 by [DBS]airdoc
Hartigan Posted October 6, 2019 Posted October 6, 2019 I had to change memory XMP profile from 3000Mhz to 2933Mhz. My default memory clock without memory oc XMP is 2166Mhz. 3000Mzh caused ctd and reboots with dozens of different .DLL errors! You may want to check your memory modules and mem oc if in use. Btw mem test gave me zero error. I have not experienced a single game crash after solved my memory issue. Hope this helps

Hope this helps yea,i think you may be onto something here. after about a week of trying to find the cause of random CTD this time, mostly mine occured in the key bindings, but, occassional mission load crash whilst i disabled my XMP,i have kept ram at 3000mhz(auto) i have only had a couple of crashes since, whereas prior it was fairly regular i will try dropping it to 2933 and report back
