Rondom crash to desktop after launching in main menu...

Posted (edited)

Hello

I experience Random CTD since the 31/12/2024. I have never experience these before (New Rig since October) and the game is now unplayable as these always happen, in flight, after few minutes.

My rig:

-VR Headset: Meta QUEST 2

-CPU: Intel Core i9-14900KF

-Motherboard: ROG STRIX Z790-E GAMING WIFI

-Graphic Card: NVIDIA: GeForce RTX 4080 Super

-RAM: 64 GBytes DDR5-5600

I am playing the game in VR, through Steam, using Meta for OpenXR

I tried to revert to previous NVIDIA driver, didn't work better, so I did a fresh reinstall of latest NVIDIA driver (566.36) leaving default settings, checked ram using MemTest86,  did a fresh reinstall of IL2... Now I don't know what else to try

For some reason, I can't upload the .dmp file (42 mo) here as even compressed, there are about 8 Mo, more than the 5 Mo limit, but I can off course share these if you instruct me to do so

Can anybody support?

Same here....Random crashes and CTD since somewhere mid December (after the last update). I opened a ticket with support (which was indeed very supportive! Kuddos!). They gave me a lot of instruction about how to check the integrity and health of Windows. I finally got to the point that I did a full reset of Windows. Nothing helped. My rig is from August so I wasn't expecting anything like this. Game is unplayable.

Update: hardware failure was the cause. Don't know what it was. Was still under warranty and repaired without information about the issue at hand.

Where are we supposed to send the zip files?  It says a max of 5 MB?

It says 5 MB is that max file size.  Mine is over 8 in ZIP format

Okay, then a file upload service will also work.

Hello, the game crashed when trying to play a recording.

    When you encountered the crash;
        Trying to play a record
    In what game mode (MP/QMB/campaign/scenario);
        single player mission created in FMB
    In what mission;
        created in FMB
    What did you do before the crash;
        Played a mission created in FMB. Flying La-5F, chasing Fw-190, shooting it down, while recording was on. Quit the mission, went to recordings, tried to play the recording, game crashes to Windows, no message shown.
    What happened in the mission before the crash;
        Mission worked ok, game crashed when trying to play the recording. However, recordings from other missions which I created too in FMB work.
    Additional info you think is relevant to the crash.
        I tried to make a recording in the mission again, but when trying to play it, the game crashes.

I am attaching both crashdump file and the mission.

Thank you.

We likely have found the cause for these crashes, so if all goes well you all shouldn't have to deal with this issue much longer.

Experiencing crashes tonight.  I ran file integrity checks on all of the steam files and Windows system file checker, but nothing came up as an issue.  Flying single player on the Moscow map, after the update loaded.  With so many updates--Windows, Steam, IL-2, Nvidia--it is hard to figure out what is causing this.

after new update installation..the game doesn't start.

 " DINPUT8.dII did not found"...  this is the advise.

I Tried to reinstall but the problem is the same.

Please file a support ticket at il2sturmovik.com/support if you've not already done so, thanks.

In my case, I have noticed that my crashes seem to be very mission dependent.  If I start a mission and it crashes, it will crash every time that I try to refly it.  If I bypass the mission, either by electing not to fly it (as a leader), or by taking off and immediately landing and quitting, and move on to another mission, everything seems to work okay until the next problematic mission happens. So I guess it makes a lot of sense to send in the mission files.

Forgot to give a situation when is happening.

Yesterday I was flying 3 missions on TAW server without problems.

Then switched to CombatBox. Was flying one mission in Bf-109 and dropped bomb on some targets. Everything was fine. Then took off again in Bf-110. Just droped bombs (1000SC+2x250SC) and when I turned my head to see the results the game freeze and after several seconds crashed to Desktop.

Several days ago...

Few mission on Wings of Liberty without issues.

Switched to CombatBox.

Was flying in Mustang with my teammates and was going toward target area to drop some bombs.

The game just crashed to Desktop. Normal flight, just 4 of us there.

The second mission... Same night.

P-38. Two of us. Was attacking some target and dropped bombs Together with large group of P-47 (some other squadron).

After brief dogfight, we were scattered and I was lightly damaged in my engine. I started toward our base. Same 20 km from the base, in level flight, without other planes, I was lookin around to spot someone and then the game just crashed to Desktop.

During the gaming, the CPU temp is 65-70 degrees, and the GPU around 70 degrees.

_gen (4).zip...and let6 me add another random crash file, attached below.  I am experiencing more crashes than successful missions.  This is getting too frustrating, so I have a ticket in.  I will update if a solution is found.

UPDATE:  Hardware issue.  Failing RAM socket was causing the crashes.

FWIW to share, a fairly surmountable crash issue I've been experiencing lately.

When launching the sim, after loading and upon getting to the greyed out hangar screen ( whereby you choose either the green "enter" button or the "fly offline" button ), if I delay in making a selection by more than 10, a dozen seconds perhaps, the game will CTD and I have to end via the task manager. If I click "enter" as soon as it appears, the sim launches flawlessly.

Oh, there is another, kind of bizarre: I get the dreaded black screen lockup while loading for a quick mission flight every time I attempt to change the gun loadout on the Mig-3 from the standard loadout to the 2 Shvak 20mm cannon loadout. the 2UB mg works fine.

Just had another on initial launch. Accompanied by a pop=up that wouldn't clear unless I ended the program in task manager.

Pop-up states: DXRenderer11:endFrame(..)

DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED (0x887a0005)

Windows 10. TrackIR + Crosswind rudder pedals. Stick and throttle.

I am getting random crashes in average one every 3 hours when flying in VR with Quest 3 usually on Combat Box. Heap corruption; usually while flying, but it has also happened in the menu.
here is one crash:
