Here s some high alt pe interception, sadly even though pe went down in several pieces, mission ended seconds after and i didnt get the credit for the shot down, anyways it was nice fight, its propably for the first time i didnt get hit from gunners

I successfully shot myself down. I have no idea how this could happen.

Maybe you crashed with purrkafin and DServer decided that you destroyed your aircraft.

Pro tip? The airfield came under attack about 5 seconds after I spawned. Sorry for not being a mind reader.

 A question to the stuka pilots: Are the AAs in truck and tank convoys dangerous? How likely would you get shot down by those AAs and how do you approach and perform your CAS before letting the AAs shoot you down first?

 

Been really interested in flying stuka for CAS under escorts, but really don't wanna go for it without knowing what to expect. :P

Hy Lymark,

the Flak in the Convoys and by the Tanks are very Dangerous. Thanks to Devs for giving Flak 38/20mm to the Red Army for better Balancing!!! Ha ha ha. Bevore it was 4x Maxim Machinegun.

I just had a collision in my Pe-2 with a Bf 109. Surprised that I blew up where as he was able to go on flying...but anyway, that's not the point. I dwelved into the logs on the TAW website after to see if he made it home. He did (congrats) but what surprised me is that the logs show absolutely no trace of the collision and damage occured. Is this intended or simply a glitch in the recording of the server? I've noticed that sometimes the logs and my memory of a situation on TAW don't always correlate.

I think it (medals) is for air or ground kills in a streak.

Yes. Counted are: Hangars, fuels, static planes.  Buildings in depot. In defense position artillery, AA and vehicles.

 

Bunkers, towers etc are only decoration.

 

 

Did change something on arfields about ground objects?
Last campaing arfields were full of targets and objects there but i made some recons and i only can see 2 or 3 hangars, some bunkers and some planes parked. So difficult to see for level bombing and more difficult to aim and hit the target

I added more fuel barrels. There should be three groups of 3xhangars + 3xstatic planes + 4xfuel as far as I remember. Maybe you reconed heavily damaged airfield.

Just a bug I think.... I was with Tripwire in Stalingrad_Center #12 and I bombed the defense yesterday in a G2 with 4 x 50kg bombs. It took 3 bombs but I eventually got an ammo dump and the kill registered on the player list stats. Trip and I were even counting the 50's required so we both saw the confirmed groundkill. Problem is the TAW stats are not showing the kill? I am also pretty sure I got 36 ground targets in my JU88 sortie Stalingrad_Center #13?

I am now also trying my best to stay alive to preserve planes, lives and player experience! Love the concept, it makes you work hard to stay alive and not just dive head on into furballs and get killed willy-nilly.

Suggestion for death penalty to implement it like it was in ADW:

 

You die and you will be kicked & banned for 5 mins (if ban technicaly impossible then the server cmdr could just kick the player when trying to join too early) --> this will free up a player slot for others trying to join and is slightly more severe than just waiting in server for 5 mins and reserving a slot from someone else trying to join

 

I understand that thanks to BOS server joining procedure (download mission first and then join, instead of join & download) this will generate additional traffic & load for server but I think the extra penalty for dying it brings is worth it.

It requires analyzing events online (constantly during the mission). Now script analyze all events after each mission. The next step is to change the script to online analyzing.

Unknown status is a new bug for me. It's appear very randomly so finding the source of it isn't easy. 

 

TAW team is possible improve kill detection?

In this sortie i killed Ju87 gunner and he take a lot of structural damage. They loose aileron and elevator but the flack just got the kill.

Flack did 83% damage to Ju87 so DServer counted kill to flack. How should I improve kill detection?

 

You have to know that DServer (BOS Dedicated Server) decides who gets kills. I only shows it's results on the webpage. I have asked developers a long time ago about similar events but their answer wasn't very helpful (I my opinion they don't know why is that and don't have time to analyze it)

 

Lets say a Fw190 attacked me in a Pe2 a couple days ago. Lets say I turned hard and he spun out and disconnected as he realized that he wont recover in time.
He should get a death and his plane should be gone right?

I really dont know how he has done that but he disconnected out of frustration and got no death. I dont know if he was doing that because he knew to avoid getting killed or if it just a bug. But I find that a little bit unfair anyhow.

DISCO penalty didn't work in the first days of this campaign. Now if enemy is damaged and do disco it's counted as a death for him and the attacker gets kill.

 

 

I have a request:  Could we make the mission briefing available in-game less ambiguous?  For example, the server can have a message like this: "Supply convey advancing towards [city] was destroyed."  (1) It would be really nice if the message would indicate the exact side the message applies to (e.g., "Soviet supply convey....").  (2) It would also be very nice if grid numbers would be included for all of the events and locations.  I find it difficult to locate the different cities/locations on the map.

 

Next, I am sort of lamenting the state of documentation concerning how the server works.  The rules and server information  seem to be awfully dispersed in this forum thread and very incomplete on the website, and I just cannot figure out how everything works.  For example, just a few of the questions I have are:  The mission briefing shows the condition and defense of different cities but is anyone actually bombing cities?  If so, what is the effect of bombing cities?    What exactly is the "defense" value in cities?  (I assume that each city does not actually have AA or ground defenses in-game.)  Do airfields change automatically depending on disposition of ground forces?  (That is, how is the front lines of the map changing exactly?)  What is the effect of destroying a tank column or supply column or a strong point?  Is a ditched plane considered a destroyed plane for the campaign statistics? etc.

 

I would be more than happy to volunteer my time to make the "Info" and "Rules" on the website more complete--just let me know.

Gunners position isn't allowed. Server only kicks you without death. Maybe someone/something killed you just before the kick.

 

Il2 is unlimited plane.

So ... some players using it to fly and disco. They do not lose plane ... cuz it's unlimited. Great idea :o:

 

And pls check how parser score kills. It's really frustating when You see on stats that some aircraft was destroyed, but in your acount ... nothing.

It's one of the disadvantage of current planeset.

 

Parser doesn't score kills. DServer does it and DServer is in hands of developers . Different thing is that very often pilots damage plane but someone else got kill.

For me it's DServer bug but I have found work around for it. You can't even imagine how many issues like this are in BOS.

 

 

The user interface on the website is atrocious, no option to change your user name or delete your registration ect really needs work, and i know it's early days but not being able to change your username come on that's just ridiculous!

It's a shame as i was looking forward to seeing all the work that has been done and enjoying the server but nope ruined it with the registration!

You may change your pilot name and register new account on TAW website.

What is the Win/Lose on player statistics?

Number of planes you shot down divided by dumber of times you have been shot down.

 

Server is full and overloaded - it procedures bizarre results from logs.

Overloaded is a problem for sure. I have increased number of slots to 70 to check how it impacts to server performance. 

 

I can't take part in this campaign  so don't know in what situation overload message appears. I may guess that when many planes attack airfield and many AA are firing. If any of you notice the correlation between event and overload massage please let me know.

The 'Death Penalty' needs to go sorry. It does not appeal to me to be penalized for getting 'Vulched' on the airfield. If you're going to implement that rule, then maybe a 'No Vulching' rule should be in place. Plus 5min is highly un-reasonable. It's the only thing stopping me from coming back.

Is there anything that stops you from creating your own server with your own rules?

You may select which game you own BOM/BOS and select preferred panes. It has impact on supplying your planes after combat missions.

I knew nothing about this server as I havn't played in a long time.

 

I tried to join the server as Russian but it kicked me and told me I have to register...

 

So I found the site and registered but I clicked German instead of Russian and afterwards I read that the first sorte is your side .So I am registered as wrong side. I can't change it in my profile

 

But that doesn't matter because  I got my name wrong. I spelt it correctly but it is misspelt to make it smaller in game and I can't change the name either.  

 

I tried to make a new profile with the correct name flying Russian as they need more pilotis but it says email address already used ...sigh.

 

Can I just delete my profile and make a new one flying Russian with correct name?

Gentlemen,

 

Need help.  I tried registering (Axis) using my IL2 BOS handle "BSS_Princess_Sparkle," however, it wouldn't accept my user name.  The only way it allowed me to register was when I changed the name by reducing the number of characters by eliminating the "Sparkle"  So it accepted my registration as "BSS Princess."

 

However, when I logged into the server, it said I was not registered.  I understand that it probably sees my user name logging on does not match my BOS in game handle, so no go.  However, when I tried to re-register changing my name back to my IL2 BOS name, it wouldn't let me because my email address is already registered to the shortened name that I cannot log on with.  I don't want to get another email address for security purposes, so I'm up the proverbial creek right now.  :(

 

Is there an admin that can delete my current registration and allow me to re-register?  And, will it accept my BOS full handle "BSS_Princess_Sparkle?"

 

Any help to get me registered would be greatly appreciated.

You can just register again, this time using a different email address. It doesn't seem to matter which email you use as its only purpose is for your login on the TAW website.

So how do you guys approach an undamaged convoy, and get those heavy AAs down before it takes you down? I don't see how a slow and low stuka could survive that. (And we're talking about a 37mm equipped stuka)

Thanks for the reply. I think the damage (0.007) indicated on the log was my guns and not the collision, since that is also how it shows on my sortie log (where the collision damage is featured).

By not going alone but in a group (splits AA fire + faster to knock out AA),

Prioritizing AA first (or have your escort knock them out),

Don't attack if it is clear that you'd be shot down in the first place (for example drop the gunpods - a bomb Stuka can still dive and hope to get away).

 

If you want to use gunpods, make sure you have backup to suppress AA or attack only after it was taken care of by randoms.

Website and server synchronisation is weird:

1. They ask you for your squadron as well as your username as shown in-game. But it isn't attatched to your squadron info on the website. There's also no option to de-register in case you want to change you name or in-game squadron.

 

2. I can't check the website while i'm in-game! Well I can, but it takes like 5 minutes to switch in and out, Surely there are better altenratives

 

3. "You may not use XYZ aircraft" - Get better messages if possible please, I spent an hour and a half hopping in and out of aircraft that I wasn't allowed to fly because of  registration and team that i joined initially and earnables etc. blah blah...
 Instructions weren't made clear how to "earn" the other planes where they are available in the mission.

Once the Stuka strike is inbound, escort sends a pair of fighters ahead to work and clean up the AAA (Stukas should never have to waste a trigger pull of 37mm on a AAA truck, or get downed by them)

  Reporting some feedback/bugs I encountered so far:

 
1. Ditching planes near friendly AF/Cities still leaves the plane in the 3rd column (0/0/1).
 
2. Some kills registered on ingame scoreboard doesnt appear in the website stats, another scenario is someone does moderate/heavy damage to a plane and a second pilot does the last hit, the 1st pilot gets the kill ingame but the 2nd gets it on the website.
 
3. If you have only 1 plane of one type left, for example 1/2 109 F4 and you loose it in that mission you can spawn in another one and the slot will be -1/2 (not sure if you can get combat missions out of it).
 
4. 100% damaged AFs showing average/poor defense have actually no defense at all.
 
4. Damaged AFs (not even 50%damaged) showing defense is "none" and actually have a lot of AAA. (Maybe defense means AT guns status)?
 
5. Sometimes after capturing an airfield (after mission rotates) is ours but we cant spawn there, showing defense is up and between10-20% damage.
 
Observations: 
 
1. Mission could be at least 2h or 2h 30m maybe with more objetives and damage required for AFs, rejoining server after mission rotation when full is painful.
 
2. Transports that land successfully in 100% damaged enemy AF should always get 1 combat mission (ju88 trans can be really fast), and there should be a new stat/counter in the website of the trans flights you made, a lot of poeple doesnt fly transports just because there is no reward and find it boring, having that counter of the successfull landings you made with it would be nice (can be quite risky). Also a counter of how many trans landed to capture an airfield can be very helpful.
 
3. Long range flak accuracy at short distance is unreal and frustrating, it does direct hits to fighters diving at 500Km/h+, I guess this is to make people atack AFs at high altitudes which is fine, just pointing that out.

I guess you are new here.

1. How told you that there should be diffrent? There is no matter where you ditched you always needs 3 mission to get it back.

3. This is very well known and for know this won't change.

4. DEFENCE LINES and AIFRIELD are TWO diffrent things. There are units on the map that are defence lines and there are AFs

Excerpt: 5.4 Ditched Planes If you belly land a plane in own area, your plane is not lost. A plane is considered belly landed if it’s landed in a friendly area with minimal damage. Belly landed planes will automatically be brought back to your airfield and fixed by the ground engineers. Lucky you! Depending on distance from the nearest airfield, you will need to wait between 1 and 3 map rotations until your aircraft will be ready for the next glorious sortie!!!

 

 

 

Another area where some discrepancy was found was in the damage required to close an airfield.  The Manual states 75%, but I believe it is actually 85% (We had a field damaged to 83% and were able to take off with no issue and the field was not closed).

 

Excerpt: 3.5 Airfields An airfield is another vital strategic point on the map. If an advancing tank column captures the city it also will close the nearby airfield. Additionally, if an enemy tank column is near the airfield (about 15km) then the airfield will also close. Players can also close an airfield by bombing the airfield to 75% damage. To damage an enemy airfield, you need to destroy hangars, fuel dumps and static planes. Airfields are very well defended by anti-air batteries and vehicles. It is not recommended to attack an airfield alone, or from low altitude.

 

 

Lastly, keep up the great work!  You have truly taken the enjoyment of IL-2 to a whole 'notha level with this server!  I can't imagine playing the sim unless I'm doing it on TAW.  :salute!

So if I wanted to fly a supply mission using a transport (i.e., bomber with 100% fuel and no bombs) to a damaged airfield, does it matter where I take off from?  I do not think this is addressed in the manual.  (On the DED expert server, you have to fly from a rear field so maybe this is adding to my confusion.)

 

I agree it would be nice to get a full sortie for flying transports even if the mission is less than fifteen minutes and/or provide some other sort of recognition.  I seriously questioning whether or not a 5% increase in resupply value is even worthwhile too.

Im well aware of the difference between AF and defense objective, what I posted is something not working properly, on the website you can see defense status of the airfields and is basically broken unless the defense means only AT guns status to fight the aproaching tank columns.

It is not defence of airfields, don't you see that cities too have defense status, and they don't have any ground objects?? The defence status is condition of defence lines not AF

Good to know, I thought if that was the case we would see all the defence lines, apparently they only pop up if tanks are coming (We only see 2 at the same time at max)

Kills not counted.

 

I got a couple of kills yesterday and the stats are not showing them.

 

The sortie is there and the kills are on the log though.

 

Is there any way to fix it?

If I bail , and I don't want be killed on chute be a super ACE, I can inmediatly disconnect ? Taw rules say something about this?

Balance has been bad for a while to the point that it is causing fatigue on the russian side, making ppl stop joining the server when its 15 to 5 facing the airforce that can stay high and pick their engagements.

Yet it seems the germans don't capiltalize on the numbers most of the time giving me the impression everybody is trying to have fun as Hartman instead of working like Rudel. 

 

Befores this becomes a rant of me and the germans feel insulted ;) : what can be done?

 

First of all there should be incentives rather than hard methods like faction lock at a certain level of balance.

With the Germans having easier to learn and more desired planes it would make sense to have a 109 more expensive than a Yak, or atleast until we get balance on the server again.

 

I'd suggest having the resupply ratio based on balance during the flyout.  After all its easier to have a succesful sortie when you outnumber the enemy.

 

My Ideas about the resupply:

  • Pooling planetypes at certain ratios. Total count based on avg amount of enemys (also discourages ninja-operations while the other faction is simply not there)
  • Creating a dynamic resupply cost based on the pool  and demand after the mission ends
  • Or alternatively: simply adjusting worth a sortie based on teambalance, (potentially during takeoff, the guy flying 50 minutes maybe faced even teams. After restart ppl need to rejoin so here earliest tiem taken should be ~5 mins?)

The "fun" vs "work" difference you mentioned hits the nail on the head. Not everyone enjoys ground attack.

giving me the impression everybody is trying to have fun as Hartman instead of working like Rudel. 

 

At least yesterday when I joined there was no Russian tank column on the map, no defensive positions, no supply depots, some level bombers going for the nearest airfields. Looks like there had been enough Rudels to take care of business already, so why not like fly a fighter and protect own tank column and airfields? Looking at stats also, Russians have lost more tanks, trucks, AA and AT, so the complaint that nobody is working like Rudel sounds a bit off.

 

With that said, it is indeed a shame that the numbers are often unbalanced. I think there were something like 40 Germans against 25 Russians yesterday when I was flying.
