SCG_CorZero Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 Another great nite of flying! Thanks Manu and everyone.
[CPT]Pike*HarryM Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 Yep, had some fun! Thanks to Manu and Coconut.
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 Great mission, everyone! All pilots in the LaGG-3 and Pe-2 group did an amazing job, adapting quickly to the situation as needed. First flight, Jim masterfully led the Pe-2s to Kumovka and got all four aircraft down without incident. A group of Bf-110s with Bf-109 escort appeared at that moment, and we engaged. They did not approach the Pe-2s even once. Xenos and Nocke kept the 109s at bay, shooting one down, while me and Myrio had a go at the 110s and forced one down after it received engine damage from the flak. The Pe-2s successfully took off after the enemy was driven away, and all four returned to base. On the second sortie, marred by technical problems, the Pe-2s managed to reorganise and execute a beautiful attack on the enemy docks. Without enemy air opposition, the flak at the docks was very deadly (even I nearly got hit) and to our dismay three Pe-2s were obliterated by it. We covered the lone survivor all the way home and landed ourselves. 5
SC_Manu653 Posted April 17, 2016 Author Posted April 17, 2016 We've got a nice event again a little cat and mouse but it's may happen ! 2
[CPT]Pike*HarryM Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Our first sortie was probably the most exciting. Our task was to strike 64th army positions in 378.9 (just west of Kalach). We sortied with 3 Bf-110s and 1 Bf-109G2 as escort. One of the 110s had engine problems and had to abort. We flew to the target area, searched and located the target, and dropped bombs with good results, taking out most of the support structures, bunkers etc. Some Lagg-3s then showed up with some objections. We tangled with them for awhile, losing Spectre in an emergency landing and our single 109. With the target mostly destroyed I RTB'd. I lost an engine and diverted to Surovikino and made a successful emergency landing. Sortie 2 was 2 110s and 2 Bf-109s. Target was emplacements in grid 415.9. We flew there without difficulty, located the target and destroyed most of it (there were 4 tanks there that were not destroyed). We lost Spectre again to a hard landing during a strafing attack. 2 flak guns active and were destroyed. The nearby train station was destroyed, maybe by the Ju-88s on an earlier sortie. No enemy AC encountered. RTB to a normal landing. Sortie 3 was to take out a bridge in 488.4 and was a complete clusterfrak due to an indestructable bridge (resisted both of Spectre's SC500s), and my sudden inability to pull out of a simple bomb run, dead. My single bomb was on the money, but didn't look like it did any damage. I'm not sure what happened in the rest of the sortie. 4
GrendelsDad Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 (edited) Nothing but clear skies and burning earth beneath the PE-2's...Just the way I like it...Thanks to the Yaks and Laggs flying cover for us...The AAA was devastating tonight. Just when you think you have a safe and easy run BOOM! I counted at least 7 Anit Air guns...at the Docks we attacked. Seems the fighters had some action. Would love to see a report or 2. I was thinking of naming our flight of PE-2's the untouchables...As long as we don't have to land we are awesome lol.(some of us that is) Special thanks to JIM and the Laggs for keeping us on track during the second sortie. Almost fell apart. Looking forward to FRIDAY AND SATURDAY next week already! Harry thanks for the AAR...I always love seeing the sorties from the other side...paints the rest of the picture. Still like to see what happened with PEZ and MANU on that fight they got in? Lucas thanks for being a man of your word and escorting us big boys. Cheers to you and all your pilots. JimTM Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 (edited) I had a fun afternoon flying with a great group of Pe-2 pilots, accompanied by an equally great group of escort pilots. Kudos to the fighter jocks for helping out a bomber leader who had a pre-senior moment identifying Kumovka airfield. It was all good though. The Pe-2s unloaded their HQ charges efficiently while the gallant escort held off the bad guys long enough for us to RTB. On the second run, to Bridge 406, my PC had a senior moment and BoS froze up solid. I rebooted and played gunner/navigator in Kissklas' Pe-2. After Kissklas laid a few well-place bombs on the docks near the bridge, someone decided to paint my goggles red. My plucky pilot ended up on the ground after a valiant effort to nurse the plane back home. I bravely abandoned ship beforehand. I rejoined the pilots on a third run to Chernishkovskiy Airbase (441-5/6), where we all had a pretty successful go at everything we could on the field. After dinner and a movie on the flight back to Zety, we landed. All the Pe-2s bounced up and down joyously in their excitement on being home once more. Cheers mates! SCG_CorZero Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 5tuka lead our 2 88s to deliver supplies and staff successfully to Zryaninsky. I suffered landing gear failure while attempting to depart, but 5tuka made a successful bomb run on Karpovka and a safe return. I picked up a new plane and bombed Karpovka, but lost the left engine to flak, and poor 5tkuka died as a belly gunner on the forced landing We both picked up new/used 88s for the last sortie and made a good bomb run again on Karpovka, but 5tuka lost his plane from a flak hit. I made a good landing at our nearest base. Our fighter escorts scared the red devils away from our flight paths, so we had nice blue skies the entire day Great times!! 2
SCG_Neun Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Great job guys and the VVS had plenty of guys as well. Sorry I had work and arrived only for mission 2 and 3, but it was fun for sure. No whining with our great bunch of pilots from both sides. 1
SC_Manu653 Posted April 17, 2016 Author Posted April 17, 2016 From my wingman AAR 4./JG52 Hund, Don't take care of his choice of words ... he need to take pills ! Pilot Manu & Hund performed two missions as part of today's front line activity for the fatherland:MSN 1 - Escort 2xJu88 to deliver command staff and human cargo to Zryaninski; task completed and orbited until JU88 re- takeoff for next leg proceeding to bomb Karpovka airfield. One Ju88 remained back at Zryaninski with damage post landing and the other was successfully escorted until weapons were delivered to enemy airfield at Grid 346 KP5. Pilot Manu & Hund had to proceed direct to home base due to low fuel state and successfully executed landing and replenishment of fuel for the next takeoff. No claims for this portion of the flight, nothing seen or detected other than near target Zryaninski; one smoke trail from the sky descending until impacting on the ground. Could not ascertain whether friendly or enemy.MSN 2 - Sweep from Cherniskovskyi (home base) Grid 441 KP5 east to Kalach Grid 378. Over the wireless we received numerous aircraft sightings over Lyapichev Grid 450 KP5, Pilot Manu & Hund proceeded to this reported sighting but nothing was seen and proceeded south to Grid 523. Further reports of aircraft sighting at Lyapichev Grid 450 KP5 and the Rotte turned north again to this location. Again no sighting or aircraft detected so the Rotte turned NE to cap near enemy airfield Marinovka Grid 345 KP1. The rotte completed on low-level orbit looking for any enemy aircraft activity but none were seen at this location. Of note we received no flak from this airfield, perhaps IVAN was having lunch. The Rotte again received further sighting reports at Lyapichev Grid 450 KP5 and proceeded to this location, but while enroute we received a request for escort for 2xJu88 to Gromoslavka airfield Grid 559 KP 9 with a rendezvous being made near Lyapichev airfield. While closing with the bombers pilot Hund was attacked from the low 6 o'clock position at 3800 Meters altitude with damage inflicted to his radiator, which began streaming vapor. Pilot Hund was able to evade this bandit (Lagg) and re-engage and eventually shooting his opponent down with a forward quarter shot at lower altitude, enemy fighter was seen to descend in a flat trajectory and explode into a forest area with no parachute seen and no possibility of surviving the post-crash fire for this communist devil and had to turn west to make for friendly territory due to imminent engine failure resulting from overheating. Meanwhile while Pilot Hund was defending himself, Pilot Manu was also engaged with another Lagg which was trying to engage the JU88s on their bombing run. Pilot Manu radioed damage to his aircraft but continued to fight this other satanic son until the bombers completed their mission and he was able to disengage and head west. However, over the wireless Pilot Manu reported that the Ivan kept following him on his return home and at this point Pilot Hund had complete engine failure and had to bailout, with no further radio communication with friendly forces. Pilot Hund successfully landed and evaded to friendly territory and claims one LAGG for this mission. Not sure if it wasn't Yak ! 3
coconut Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 216th_Cat and myself escorted by p3zman and seafirelive in yaks had a pretty quiet evening. Three raids on Novomax destroying everything that looked like a target did a lot of damage, but we never managed to find that one last target we needed to destroy to be awarded I mission complete. On the last sortie we pushed north to an enemy tank base. The AA there damaged Cat who made a safe return back to base while I cleaned up soft targets. My rockets are falling closer to their targets, but still not close enough. Fun as always, thanks all for your participation! 3
SHRAPS Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Hi all, Had a really good time flying with you all yesterday evening! missions were set up very very well with great detail S! looking forward to next time, thanks for all the help Jim on the way to target sorry I didn't make the final mission family arrived home early. SHRAPS. 2
GrendelsDad Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 (edited) We tore that airfield to shreds...4 hangers, 4 anti air guns, multiple fuel depots...at least 8 aircraft. Half a dozen of or so trucks. I even dropped a 100 kg on the tower. Good times. It was nice to see all the PE2's coordinating there attack runs. This is another underrated skill of bombers and ground attack pilots in general. The ability to take a target and communicate with the rest of the flight...cool to see 5 of us buzzing around that airfield. 5 mins all targets gone. I think we left one truck. Still like to see what happened with PEZ and MANU on that fight they got in? Lucas thanks for being a man of your word and escorting us big boys. Cheers to you and all your pilots. Well, due to popular demand, may I present my After Action Review: I was in a flight of 2x Yak's that were given the task of providing escort to a pair of IL-2's that were going to be attacking enemy targets near Novomaksimovsky and Pobeda Oktyabrya. Our secondary objective was to preform fighter sweeps to keep the skies clear for our IL-2's. This area ranged from grid 305 in the North to grid 483 in the South. First Sortie: The Yak-1's had issues getting airborne initially but everything got squared away and we were able to rendezvous with our IL-2's over the target. My wingman and I orbited the target area looking for enemy aircraft but none were found. All aircraft were able to return to base, land, rearm, and fly again. Second Sortie: Our target was the same as the first sortie so we kept all flight plan's the same. This time we were all able to get airborne quickly and move to target. This time my wingman and I branched out farther into enemy airspace but still we were not able to find any contacts. IL-2's called egress and we escorted them back to base. Final Sortie: My wingman and I didn't bother landing since we both took a full fuel load previously. Instead, after returning the IL-2 to base, we decided to preform a fighter sweep in our area of responsibility. While we were preforming our sweep we saw the alert that said Karpovka, our most Northern airfield, was under attack. We adjusted our course to intercept the enemy aircraft as they were returning to their home airfields, climbing as we headed North to meet. We ran into 2x Ju-88's and 2x Bf 109 providing escort. We were able to ambush the escort fighters (to my surprise) which was hugely beneficial since my wingman had lost visual of me during our maneuvering to get into position. I was able to damage a 109 on the first attack, it wasn't the shot but I'll take it, I knew it would be a pain in the ass for the pilot anyway. The second escort fighter kept driving me away from the bombers until I lost sight of them, but then he lost sight of me and returned to his bombers with me following. However he was able to drive me away again and I lost the bombers for good. We then got into an engagement that went around for a while. With a little luck I was able to dodge a few bullets and land some others on my opponent forcing him to have to exit the fight. I gave chase but I couldn't catch him, and being bingo fuel I decided to Return to Base. That second 109's aircraft was too damaged to return to its airfield anyway, so I turned for home. Didn't get too far in the end. Nope, I ran out of fuel. I attempted to glide to an abandoned airfield but I was too far away. I ended up touching down in a field, a really great wheels down emergency landing. So, yes Manu, it was a Yak and not a LaGG. Here's a video I made of the entire engagement, I tried to keep it interesting but it was a decently long fight, at least 11 minutes. It's a good engagement though. S! https://youtu.be/gyyN5fggAq8 2
GrendelsDad Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 That was great footage PEZ...exciting to watch. I could tell it was a good fight from the reaction on comms. That fast roll you did early in the fight to avoid the shoots was awesome...you would have lost the fight right there. Good timing on the break. Thanks for taking the time.
ACG_pezman Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 That was great footage PEZ...exciting to watch. I could tell it was a good fight from the reaction on comms. That fast roll you did early in the fight to avoid the shoots was awesome...you would have lost the fight right there. Good timing on the break. Thanks for taking the time. I'm glad you enjoyed the video, after all it was your comment that inspired me to make it because it truly was a good fight for both sides, and it needs to be seen. There were so many decisions and moments in the fight, for both Manu and I, that were critical to our survival. That roll you mention is one such choice. It's a technique I have learned from being shot down a lot. Once you make the initial break into a defensive maneuver, it is a good habit to constantly change your aircraft's attitude because otherwise, you are technically flying a straight path which is the easiest to calculate a lead for. You can see when I execute the maneuver that I in-fact preform three separate quarter turns for the explicit reason of not flying a straight path while I dove out. As you can see as well, it saved my life. Needless to say, it worked for me this time, but many times I am either a second too late on execution or too soon... both are deadly mistakes.
GrendelsDad Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 I have just started to fly Yak and already "discovered" how well the rudder helps the "snap" turns at high speed. I really like flying it. I do appreciate your details on the manuvers as well, all of these things help a rookie fighter pilot like me.
SC_Manu653 Posted April 18, 2016 Author Posted April 18, 2016 (edited) It was a nice fight with you P3zman was wondering why I was unable to find a effective path toward you. As you can see my dive was always evade by this behavior. When I saw the movie I try to find when my wifenfuhrer come to snap my Track-IR from my head-set yelling about that's nearly 3 hours in front of the computer !!! After you shot me I was in need to flee to get you away from the bombers and try to land. Salute again for the fight ! For the next time I will give you our skins pack ! https://www.dropbox.com/sh/z5tyucy27gujamk/AABeVinaBaC9ZBWfAMO8NaCta?dl=0 Edited April 18, 2016 by 4./JG52Manu653
663rd_Clutch Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 That was a lot of fun. Thanks to the guys that organize these missions. I look forward to flying another one. I also want to tip my cap to JimTM for doing such a great job organizing our Peshka flight. He explained everything in detail before we launched which really helped me visualize the mission. It was great meeting Gramps and GrendelsDad on comms for the first time too. One last thanks goes out to our little friends that kept the fighters off our back on our first mission. Well done, guys! 2
SC_Manu653 Posted April 18, 2016 Author Posted April 18, 2016 (edited) JimTM is an excellent flight leader. In fact he was one of my mentor ! I learned a lot about leading a flight from him ! And still learn ! Edited April 18, 2016 by 4./JG52Manu653
JimTM Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 (edited) Thanks Clutch and Manu. My job is made easier by flying with enthusiastic and engaged participants. It is a lot of fun working together with folks on common objectives. Even if you don't encounter opposition or take out the target, the experience is worthwhile. Edited April 18, 2016 by JimTM 1
SC_Manu653 Posted April 18, 2016 Author Posted April 18, 2016 Guys I'm making a test on small campaign for 32 peoples on Coconut Novomax map. And I need you help. For now we are the 216th and the 55IAP for the VVS side Command and Control and the 4./JG52 and a Fliegerkorps coming soon for Command and Control. SC_Manu653 Posted April 18, 2016 Author Posted April 18, 2016 (edited) PEZ this is a test we will likely make if possible with our server a NA version too. We just need more occasion to play in this kind of event and I think that all the people who participate in SNBF will found some fun. In the best it's small campaign of 3 sessions. We used the time spent and the time reasonable to rearm to re-launch when the second session start. Ex: 1 mission start at 07h00 finished at 08h47 the next week the mission will start at 10h45 at least in simulation time. If it become successful we will have a NA with Western and Australian time. And a EU/NA time. Edited April 18, 2016 by 4./JG52Manu653

No_85_Gramps Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 Probably won't make it this week, company coming from out of town. Now my recap from last week....disaster...but still fun! I had been practicing my taxiing skills in the Pe-2 so I joined up with JimTM, Grendel, Shraps, Clutch, and Kissklas. 1. Successfully taxied out but while turning onto the runway nosed over and pranged the props. JimTM was willing to do a fly around and wait for me but I decided to hop in his plane as a gunner. Although we did not get attacked the flight was a window into how this group operates. The immersion just blew me away as I watched the 4 trailing Pe-2's following along and at times catching a glimpse of the fighter cover, totally an amazing experience. Watching JimTM's landing from the gunners position was great, a birds eye view through the windscreen, turn my head back around and watch the remaining Pe-2's all land, complete the mission and taxi back around for the take-off back to home airfield. Some smooth taxiing and flying skills in this group. 2. Basically a repeat, except I re-spawned. While starting-up, my #1 engine died as #2 was coming to life. What the heck, I jump into Grendel's Pe-2 as a gunner. No attacks again but Grendel took a run at the docks/boats and as he climbed away after dropping his bombs I got a first-hand look as the damage done. Totally blown away by how this sim sucks you in. Didn't have time to stick around for the last mission. If anyone reads this and has not joined in...just do it! You won't regret it, heck of a lot of fun and I learned quite a bit just sightseeing from the gunners position. Great people, great fun...now off for some more practice in the Pe-2! 2
curiousGamblerr Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 I will take an Il-2 this week. I can lead the flight if needed. Looking forward to it! 1
