Bf-110 E2 Skins

Recommended Posts

Last skin pushed me in loooot of hard research. And to resolve this puzzle was very interesting.

1. There is no even one official document sorvived, wich show official Bf110 "splinter" 71/72/65 camouflage scheme. Late-war scheme, 74/75/76 is known from from photos (and easier to find out because of high contrast between 74 and 75 colors). But with dark green and blackgreen - it was very hard to be sure, where each RLM70 splinter is. Most of "green" Bf110's photos show almost solid one color on uppersurfaces.

2. Next thing, that there were two camouflage scheme - "A" and "mirrored-"B". Difference between those two were only mirrored "splinters" of nose section and tail section.

3. Forward triangle splinter of light green color on 235-5 photo looked very strange, because it doesnot match with 71/72/65 scheme. So, my idead was that it was repainted with 71 after combat damage/during overhowl. Also, green colors look very weared (this Bf110C-1 was build around spring 1939, and in spring 1943 was a really piece of sh#t old aircraft, but upgraded with new engines, MG17 installation and armor for pilot (windglass and armor headplate).

4. Third uppersurface color, I suggested it as italian color, so Verde Oliva Scuro 2 fit well.

5. German markings were roughly overpainted with italian paint.

6. Savoia Cross is painted as on photos of overall-black Bf110C-1 of Italian 1st Nightfighter Test Center.

Zargos, quite frankly, I would rework the upper color. In my opinion it's very bright, and quite dark too. On my screen it looks like a bright orange-brown, whereas it should be a very washed out sandy color.

I would better call it "interpretations" :)

attachicon.gif78 79 80.jpg

Interpretation is one thing. But a skinner then has to make it look like it's part of the game. Copying a color code never works. I find this the most challenging part of creating a good skin, and it's often the key.

PAnzerbar...thanks a lot for your great skin.

You are right...it's really interesting to discover what's the story behind these few aircrafts...

I agree with you Reflected. But consediring things the way you do, you must admit that the skinner's choice may not match with your expectations or at least that his interpretation shall differ from your's.

The color in game depends also of the equipment (graphic card, monitor) and of their tuning. So what's seems perfect for one migth be different for another.

Nevertheless, I've tried to change a bit the color of my RLM79 (just less saturation).

Looks like that :

The result is quite good to my eyes.

Just remember that light incidence has an effect on the color. In the same way according the period of the day, the color of the light changes and so the skin color.

Looks definitely better!

As you said, the color is the result of many factors. Lightness and saturation depend on all kinds of things, even hue. The best test is - for me - to take a screenshot above the landscape at noon in the summer, and check if it looks out of place, or blends in (and I don't mean the camouflage).

Outstanding work Zargos ... where can I download latest version?

By the way .. a question for PANZERBAR...just for curiosity and interested to understand what was ...what do you think about the italian Bf 110 with under engine cowling bright in my previous image?

It looks weird that a nightfighter had a part painted in light ( yellow? gray ? )

Any thought?

Thanks

Actually, I want to paint 1 more. But now I have very few information.

post-1464-0-22882400-1451330695_thumb.jpgpost-1464-0-68984700-1451330725_thumb.jpg

1. In front - Bf110E, on background - Bf110D.

2. Spinner tips are red (2./ZG26 or 5./ZG26) or green (Stab I or II./ZG26). But Stab's Bf110's of those Gruppen had 1/3 spinner painted white, and had no colored spinner tips. So, It must be of 2 or 5 Staffel.

3. It is not Stab aircraft, because it has no any chevrons - both Gruppen always used them on all Stab aircrafts. Here is crashlanded Bf110E of Gruppenadjutant of II./ZG26.

post-1464-0-33120100-1451331202_thumb.jpgpost-1464-0-77261400-1451331218_thumb.jpg

4. There are letter (L? A? I?) underwing on one photo.

5. There are no tracers of "Ringelpietz" emblem of I Gruppe or "Holzschuche" emblem of II Gruppe. It is known, that during 1941 on Ostfront, I./ZG26 almost didnt used emblem, and II./ZG26 painted emblems usually. So, it could indicate those a/c from I./ZG26.

6. Otherwise, it is known, that I./ZG26 got solid overall whitewinter camouflage, and II./ZG26 didnt used it at all. So, probably it is temporary winter camouflage of II./ZG26 aircraft, particulary from 5./ZG26.

Any ideas?

Note: Please not count theese two awfull profiles. It contain TONNNNSSSS of errors and mistakes.

Guys, I have an idea.

I accamulated lots of photo material about Bf110E-3's, Aufklarungs (Recconaisance) variant of Bf110E, from various AufklarungsStaffeln.

Many interesting camouflages, but my time is limited, so I probably will not be able to paint them. Who can take this job? I'll provide all needed material.

For example, 5F+YK of 2.(H)/Aufklärungsgruppe 14(Pz.), early 1942, Afrika.

Would anyone be interested in making this skin? I'd really appreciate it, but I don't mind if no-one's interested.

Ok, Hartmann, lets look into documents.

26.05.42

8./ZG 26

Bf 110E-2/Trop W.Nr.4419 StKz "SB+GO"

Süd, Front

Bei Fl.Pl. Derna-Nord, Libyen

Flakbeschuß. Bruch 100 %.

26.05.42

8./ZG 26

Bf 110E-2/Trop W.Nr. 4419

Flugzeugführer FSA, unhurt

Bordfunker Uffz Hugo Konrad, WiA

This two aircrafts were from same party, and we produced as "Trop" version by Muhlenbau-Industrie AG at Braunschweig around summer 1941.

Aircrafts had:

-uppersurfeses RLM79, undersurfaces RLM78

-spinners in standart RLM70 (note it!)

-White fuselage band was applied in factory

-engine undercowlings were RLM04 yellow.

-WerkNummer was painted in black, small letters above the swastika, on both tail fins.

Examples:

Some of aircrafts were mottled with olive green RLM80, like this way:

attachicon.gifMe110-E1-ZG26-22df+s.jpgattachicon.gif1436168287__57.jpgattachicon.gifGeorg Christl.jpg

RLM27 was never used by ZG26 in Afrika. Note, no yellow rudders and engine uppercowling in yellow color.

Splendid skinning fellow pilots. A blessed and happy 2016 for all. Panzar looking forward to Skg210. I know you are busy is it perhaps possible to do a mottle (rlm 80) zg26 like the picture left or source it out? Would be much appreciated. Kind regards.
