Developer Diary, Part 110 - Discussion

No, but developing tanks instead of planes is definitely bad news for me. OK, if it's 1 driveable tank per side, then yeah, it can be fun. But I hope they won't put any more effort in it than that.

Maybe it's the prelude for "Il2: Battle of Kursk"?

This is my take as well, but I honestly believe, that the devs know where their strengths lie, and this is just some added flavor.

If they do go full WTard and start making a tank game out of this, then I'm with you, but I don't think that's happening.

Wow, I'll be honest, I didn't see that coming!

Done right, tanks could be a huge plus, so long as they don't take significant dev resources away from continuing to develop and expand the actual flight sim.  I'll admit I've been waiting for someone to produce a decent WW2 tank simulator.  Could it be that my wish will be fulfilled by IL-2?  I will look forward to seeing more details in the future...

My biggest hope for IL-2 right now is for a deeper single-player campaign experience, as I have no interest in PVP.  If ground forces are being added, I hope there will be plenty of SP options for them as well.

So, when are you guys going to add warships to the game???  ;)

Dont worry friend, Devs know what they are doing. I have no fear that we would get tanks before the Battle of Kursk  ;) If any

Disappointed that dev log 109  had info on the upcoming 109, but 110 didn't have the 110.

Silliness aside, I'm anxiously awaiting 1.104, don't know about anyone else. Probably because not having to navigate in constant snow will be a plus.

I'm really impressed! The quality and development of this sim is really convincing - Hats off! :good:

Also, the tanks are nice and the landing of the Emil looks gorgeous!

Looking forward to the T-34 is overmodelled and Pzfw IV does not get a 'cold air ' performance boost, and where is our Tiger 1 !!  threads ;)

Hmm, surprised to see the tank footage. Will we be playing as a single crew member? Or will it be like Warthunder or World of tanks, where you control all of the rolls at once? While I greatly enjoy Warthunder's tanks, WoT, and Armored Warfare for a bit of fun, I've been dying for a new Steel Fury style game for years.

Things are looking good, thanks. I must admit that the tank part has me rather curious but not upset. If it works then fine. It does look interesting though. We'll see with time wont we?

Im absolutely stoked for both videos! I can't WAIT to get into some tank battles! Having that aspect of the game will put me back into bos for a longtime to come.

Not sure why so many people didn't bark out against team fusion for putting tanks on clod. And here it looks to be done right with proper internals.

You guys are worried about player numbers In servers? We're lucky to get 1 server full for 1/4 of a day. There is plenty of room for new experiences. Lightened up.

....and the diffrent groundhandling is also absolutely awesome. Hopefully puts an end to people starting 90°  across the runway. A plus for immersion.

^This!

Would LOVE to see surface of ground affect handling; as stated, if you want to start straight out.. be sure to nose over.... maybe risk for Ice on runway? Mud on summermaps.. and autumn (seen the pics från Eastern front?)

Landing and taking off is but a small aspect of a flight sim, but a Very important part of immersion: We love a challenge no matter if it's staying a live or successfully landing in mud, on icy surface, deep snow.... or on a rolling carrier deck ;)

BTW, love the update - can't wait for flying over green and brown... and maybe just maybe this will wake us up in SvAF again :)

Tanks? sure why not :)

That was my first thought too. It's the only way this makes sense. I know it's irrational but I was hoping the surprise was a fly able Ju-52, its one way to keep us guessing. Still, awesome update if not a little confusing.

Tanks are fine. More options, more players, more money, more aircarfts.

Summer maps look great... but please, no drive-able tanks. lets not wast resources going down that road.

I'd love for the extra manpower to go towards building that Ju52 cockpit (and a flyable Po-2 while you're at it) but there's just no denying that a drivable T-34 is gonna draw a bigger crowd than a flyable Ju52.

Very much mixed feelings about driveable tanks - much as I have enjoyed games like Panzer Elite in the past, a ground war game without functioning infantry is unsatisfying and I cannot see how IL2 can overcome that problem, however good the thumps and zings are (and they are good!)  Let us just hope that it is using genuinely surplus resources.

Great news about the new patch! Thanks!

Not sure about the tanks though. It has been stated that dev team is small with limited resources. Is it wise divide those resources between tanks and planes? How this will effect the air component of BoS?

That of course if the team is seriously planning to add tanks.

I imagine the World of Tanks players who are tired of the 3rd person view will be attracted to the driveable tanks.  I just hope the devs have acquired some skills in how they handle the singleplayer gameplay.  Those apparently hallucinogenic screenshots have got me worried.

Nice and interesting news. :salute:

Driveable tanks is a wise move, many "new players" expect this, as WT has created a pattern in CFS/G.  :)

It would have been nice to have an update of the Bf 110 in DD 110.  :)

That is the big surprise for me. I never would have guessed there were so many folk who would want this in a flight sim. But if it does really equate to more sales, ok. It's an interesting development for sure.

I never expected new intro videos from the new campaign. Looks awesome and I can't wait for the Emil, new season & the campaign. Oh.. and that was nice landing Hans.

Great news!  My first love is flying but the tanks are a nice touch and will bring in more players which is good for the health and future of the franchise.

Usually 1 1/2 to 2 weeks. Might be a bit longer, since there's a massive amount of stuff in 1.104.

I would just suggest now to considere seriously (really) a flyable Ju-52, and also the possiblity of some more DLC....P-39 for ex.

It still just makes me SMH that after all this time some folks still do not get that these guys have a plan... and it is their plan and they are working a part of it on the fly (pun intended) ...  Even IF tanks are introduced as an option... the fact that this would still be a great flight sim at it's core takes nothing from that. The more options the better.

Yes but plan can be improved a bit.

WoL server is given us an idea of what we can do online with htis game, and the incredible fun we can have with it.

Thi sim is growing up quickly, may be is time to increase a bit the budget with some more stuff.

Nor a proper damage model ;) We'll obviously need modelling for an infantry soldier being ground to a paste by T-34 tracks.

I´m sure you are aware that things can get very heated around these topics.

So - even if it´s meant to be funny - why mention it in the first place? Why don´t just give it a rest?

@Topic

Thanks for the update - can´t wait for the summer / autumn maps.

I´m really looking forward to them!

If 777/Devs can put a good tanks simulator inside the Il2 BoS virtual World...with a good management system (engine, systems,  physics, damage model, ballistic...etc..), I think that they will take a good number of new users. And for the flight sim users, I think, should be good news. If people don't want tanks, don't take, it's easy.

But in any case I'm sure that this is only one example of the possibility of IL2 BoS engine, no more.
