Stlkrash Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Well, keep this in mind. Two weeks from beta release. So the version we will get, is done now. It's too late to be messing around with it. The small tweaks they can do are small at this point. It's just a waiting game now, on when they have the files uploaded, and when they turn the download links on. If they are not to that point, my gut feeling is correct. And we will see a bunch of mad people in here.. But, at this point it's a wrap as far a the beta. It is just "paper shuffle" now. So if you start hearing weird things that would mean major changes, that will tell you if they are on the ball or missing it completely.
Pupo Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Yes. The term " online" was used to specify the login procedure since we have 2 options in ROF. First early access sessions will only be available with online login, which means that your account will be authorised on our server (just like activation logins in ROF) and remain at this state all the time you'll be playing. It's not multiplayer, that will be offered to you a couple of sessions later. wait, so, we will have to login just to gain access to the game (like ROF, im ok with that, some may not), but the content available in the first sessions will be single player only?
DD_Crash Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 And we will see a bunch of mad people in here.. No change there then
Stlkrash Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 (edited) LOL Crash, It's all ok man. I personally think a dev studio call in day would be neat on their part. Let folks ask questions live etc. But hey that's just my opinion. The forum mods here do a good job, but they aren't 100% informed and don't have all the answers. All they have is old post to refer to most of the time. Two weeks, let em do their thing. If we leave em be, they can do work lol. Cracks whip Whipah! Friggin chillie in Iwakuni. thx1138 Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Wow, you guys are soo easily dissapointed... Nothing has even happened yet and you are already projecting doom and gloom. 1
Emgy Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 (edited) Now being I have good info from ROF's set up.... Like I said if that one server is down, or looses net, you will not be able to play even single player. That's pretty much how it works. I prefer this if it helps counter piracy. Fooling the game into thinking it's logged in on an auth.server takes more work compared to cracking the usual offline protection, and it's not a given that the pirate groups will spend a lot of effort on a niche game like Il2. While games like call of duty can earn loads of money even with heavy pirating, niche products like Il2BoS needs all the support it can get. Especially if we want to see the Pacific or the Ardennes. Stlkrash Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 True Cal. Any old schoolers in here? Remember CFS2? Oleg started IL2 right when CFS2 was being killed by cheats and hacks. As I recall he stated back then, he left IL2 "Locked" for lack of a better term right now, to stop that cheating crap.
Shea Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Well tbh i dont mind, the 3 day thing now,I will be playing X rebirth on the 15 also,so happy camper here
1CGS LukeFF Posted October 31, 2013 1CGS Posted October 31, 2013 (edited) Well, keep this in mind. Two weeks from beta release. Alpha, not beta. C'mon, that's been repeated who knows how many times over the last weeks. So the version we will get, is done now. It's too late to be messing around with it. Bearcat Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 Yes. This is how RoF was in the beginning.. and in this case it is totally understandable (having the online only access) . Jason explained that too. Correct me if I am wrong but by the time the final release is available it should have an offline mode like RoF yes? Well if that's the case, that sucks. Why does that suck.. This is not the final release... I could see that sucking upon final release.. that was one thing that was a turn off to me in RoF in the beginning .. but that was changed so I have little doubt that that will not be the case eventually here as well. Basically means no log in = no play Pretty much.. and remember people... This is not even a Beta... this is not just so that we can enjoy the early access but so that the devs can use the information they garner from our usage. Not only that .. remember that while we are playing they will be working for at least 6-10 of those hours. Exactly Bongo. you need to be on the net to sign into your profile, and launch the patching system, just like ROF. SO yeah pretty much we bought it, don't get to use it, and when their one server is down, you're screwed also. Now here is the question not being brought up. Where is this ONE server, or is it a node, or multiple servers in different places? I am also not seeing traffic on a dedicted server for us to use. Now being I have good info from ROF's set up.... Like I said if that one server is down, or looses net, you will not be able to play even single player. That's pretty much how it works. Yep exactly like obummercare... First off.. your negativity is getting to be a bit much and moving beyond anything but trolling so I seriously hope you consider checking control yourself. Secondly .... You are talking way outside of anything that you know anything about and merely speculating. "We bought it and don't get to use it?" I will tell ya what.. in a 72 hour period even in the middle of the week, if you can't squeeze in at least an hour then that's on you. I may have another 75+ hour week next week.. but I plan to do my d@mndest to get at least an hour a day in regardless. It is part of what being a founder is about.. you help to lay the groundwork by contributing to the early development of the final product. Whatever shift you work .. whenever your kids go to bed whatever.... your wife and kids won't leave you if you take one d@mn hour out of the day for yourself.. It won't last forever .. I doubt if it will even last beyond the second phase of this, although I do not know for sure all I have to go on is the dev's record and the understanding from that record that their goal is not to get rich, screw us, burden or yank our chains but to deliver to us in it's final form the best product that they possibly can. If you still cannot scratch out that hour .. then yeah it sucks.. but you know what... it won't be for the duration of the early access period. Of that I am certain. You need to stop talking about things you know absolutely nothing about. You are assuming that that the server will go down.. you are assuming way more than you could possibly know about any of this. Where is the dedicated server? DUUUUUUHHHH It is obviously not finished yet. Now I know some folks here may say that's a bit strong but you know, looking at some of your posts throughout this whole process since last Friday all I see is someone stirring the pot and I am telling you right now that you need to just get a grip and you also need to keep political references out of this thread this is not the place for them. If you want toss in your politics there is a place that you can go to and you can do that till your heart's content.. but this isn't that place ....not this thread and not this forum so let's just not go there again, or anywhere else in that neighborhood. I hope I have made myself clear on that. Thank you for your cooperation. Well, keep this in mind. Two weeks from beta release. So the version we will get, is done now. So if you start hearing weird things that would mean major changes, that will tell you if they are on the ball or missing it completely. ... and again of course you know what you are talking about right... .. You must be this guy: I have no clue so I won't lay claim to having the same crystal ball that you have and say this with any authority other than my own feelings.. but I would not be surprised if they were working on this up until a few days before the upload. As for the "small tweaks" .. well you don't know about that either... unless of course you are that guy in the picture. Or maybe his son imbued with his amazing powers.. For too many people this is "all about me" "I want.." "I need.. " "I'm getting the shaft wahhh wahhh wahhhh.. " Look you are already ahead of the game because you paid for a product that will cost more in it's final release than what you paid for it. Which ever version you get. Hopefully .. and based on what we have seen over the past 10 months and other developer comments this is not an unreasonable assumption, we will all be able to get the full access we paid for before the final release and I would not be surprised if there were any glitches or really big hiccups along the way if the devs were to offer up another bonus to us.. I don't know that .. no one has even hinted at it... and it may not happen but I have seen that this team is doing their best to deliver.. and that matters most to me. This was not what I expected.. but this was not what I paid for.. I paid for the finished product.. the early access even if limited and the extra aircraft are nice.. but I bought BoS the moment I plunked down my $$ at my first opportunity. This Alpha is just a part of it.. I also bought that as well.. I also bought the opportunity to get in on the ground floor of an exciting product that will hopefully feed my flight sim jones for years and years to come.. A lot of this is like paying for a trip abroad and loosing it because there are issues at the airport where you live.. You bought the entire trip.. Let's wait till the trip is over before we decide what kind of venture it will be/has been and some of you need to stop agonizing over the current state of things and get over it. It has been a week now. Developer responses to community concerns over DD 38 6

Forager Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 (edited) So, a moderator can speculate about developer possibilities but if said moderator becomes annoyed with a founder who speculates, they just compare said founder speculator to a dead late night comedian and that is just fine, right? It also seems some moderators are trying to steer the discourse instead of moderating it. Oh well, maybe the upcoming update 39 will take the steam out of 38. Edited November 1, 2013 by Forager 1
Rjel Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 Well said Bearcat. Hopefully this update gets put to bed tomorrow. Whether the drama dies with it remains to be seen. 1

It also seems some moderators are trying to steer the discourse instead of moderating it. Oh well, maybe the upcoming update 39 will take the steam out of 38. Are you kidding me? At least my speculation is based on a history and tangible evidence and not just random opinion that is contrary not only to the historically stated facts and character of the developer team that is here on these boards for all to read, but also contrary to their clearly stated goals and already completed work. Not only that .. where I did speculate .. I stated it as such and did not even insinuate that it was fact. I said it was my opinion or speculation on my part... and much of what I said was not speculation. It seems some founders are just trying to stir the pot. I'm not having it. You got a problem with that? It's funny as all get out to me that out of everything I stated in my post that is what you chose to focus on. Wow. I am not going to get into a debate about my moderating with you. If you have any questions feel free to PM me. I will respond. If you don't like my moderation then you of course can report it to the forum admins. However I must point out that apparently at least two other mods share my opinion even if they did not say the same thing exactly. Their actions spoke volumes. Lastly ... for the record, since you seem to have a mistaken notion of what it is, steering the discourse is a large part of moderating. 1
HeavyCavalrySgt Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 Perhaps we should turn off the forums until the 12th or so.
dburne Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 (edited) Perhaps we should turn off the forums until the 12th or so. Or perhaps silence those that are disappointed? Hopefully at least with 18 pages so far in this DD, the devs will see there must be some fire with that smoke - who knows, maybe some folks will handle some things differently the next time. Edit: I want to ask what is probably a dumb question, and I do not ask this to stir anything up in any way, I am just curious. Does BOS have a group of say " core" alpha/beta testers that put the sim through the paces and report bugs, issues, etc? Or is that going to be the founders that paid for early access, will they be that group for BOS as well? Edited November 1, 2013 by dburnette 1
Forager Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 I asked a question, stated an opinion and hoped for relief in the form of a new update. Are you kidding me?

Does BOS have a group of say " core" alpha/beta testers that put the sim through the paces and report bugs, issues, etc? Or is that going to be the founders that paid for early access, will they be that group for BOS as well? That is not a dumb question at all ... Hopefully someone will be along to answer it. Why not post it in the questions for devs thread? Guys .. the expression of dissatisfaction was never the issue.. it was the manner of expression for some and the perpetually ongoing nature of it that created problems. The fact that some folks actually laid into the character of the team and acted as if they were never going to get what they paid for as if they had been lied to with intent.. and that went on and on and on.. I think that the devs may have been surprised by the intensity and duration of that intensity but not that there was unhappiness. These guys have been dealing with RoF for the past few years so they know the customer base I think.. I asked a question, stated an opinion and hoped for relief in the form of a new update. Are you kidding me? You did a little more than that ... Hopefully in a few hours. Hopefully there will be more good news.

Sim Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 Yeah you forget who you're dealing with. Customers?
Chako Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 With regards to the early access limitations I can only say I for one am very thankful there are talented people who devote their time and money to produce a product that will offer me hours of pure enjoyment and entertainment. This early access I don't imagine will be very exciting and was offered to allow us, the client to work with the developers to make this a more immersive and superior flight simulator that will last for a long long time. There's an old saying "that expectation is greater than realization". For what we are going to be getting the price of this what already looks like an magnificent product is worth much more than we payed when it finally comes to full realization and is released. Please give the creators a break with more encouragement and praise rather than tribble over such a small issue of limited days and hours and look forward to the excitement next year when released. Fly high, stay safe
