If we are talking about the same thing, the Cab Rank was a flight of Fighter-bombers flying near the ground battle waiting for the ground troops to call for their help. It was initially Typhoons but other FBs and the US tried it out too. They were called Cab Ranks because while they were waiting for a target they were circling around "like a rank of cabs in Picadilly". The advantage of the Cab Rank system was that the planes were already in the air when the ground troops called for air support, so it took a much shorter time between the call for support and the attack run. To implement this in career mode would be something like a mission where you took off, flew to a designated area, and flew around there until a message told you what and where to attack.

 

Also, +1 on wanting a Typhoon in here.

I think Cab Rank was whoever was around, but in general this would work better for Typhoons than Spitfires. Since Spits had a shorter range, they could not loiter for as long, so it was better for them to show up at the cab rank, see if there were any customers, and if not head immediately over the front as armed recce, like an Uber taxi.  The system obviously changed over time.

 

Good reference for this (and much else besides) is: "Air Power at the Battlefront" by Ian Gooderson. Very relevant for the Normandy/BoBP era in particular.

It was among the selling points of last year’s BoK product.  It may turn up later, although it hasn’t been mentioned since.  

 

Mind you; I think it’s an ill conceived idea in the first place, and I’d be glad to see the cat-herding idea dispensed with and the programming time directed towards something more useful.

I hope they realised its waist of time and work on some other things as we didnt hear about it for long time, im on ts3 if i wont to cooperate with others, its easy and effective and no aditional strain on MP. 

I use in game chat only when i need to worn other of his 6 quickly, or i need help fast from guys not on ts3, but for coordination ts3 or similar is best option.

Im just afraid this Air marshal will just make MP suffer even more and give nothing good/extra that we cant have with just ts3 discort or what not outside of game.

Also i dont think this will all of sudden atract lone players to cooperate, if they wont to cooperate they can join ts3 and group there like others do all the time.

Blue pilot:  FU!!!  Pe-2 is OP.  I am fly to nearest enemy airfield and vulch!

 

Blue Air Marshall:  …...

 

 

Or for the opposite side:

 

 

Red pilot:  Red Air Marshall, I have hit enemy supply dump.  One engine badly damaged, fuel leaking.  Request vector to nearest friendly airfield...

 

Red Air Marshall: FU!!!  I am Mk Mr.X  boyfriend!  I pad his stat and give vector only him!!!  I am FU!!!

One of the reasons I bought Kuban was the Air Marshall. The multiplayer had been neglected enough.

I played planty of organaised events or df server campaigns like seow, sow, adw and all work by all players being on ts3 so comanders or leaders who know whats best to win mission or acomplish objective can comunicated fast. And most of preperation for missions was done before mission there, I dont see this AM giving anything extra to thouse type of serious servers they already dont have, to me this was ment to give coordination to fast food servers like WoL, and i think its waisted on them.

I dont think AM is ment to give game anything similar to seow if thats what you were hoping for, how i understod it Air Marshal is ment to be more like tool that is used to give simple orders withing the game in MP similar to how you order around AIs in SP, some simple set of comands that then are desplayed to all players on your side.

I didn't mean that it would give anything similar to SEOW, just that since SEOW scale things aren't possible in BoX, there after all is not so much need for the AM.

I'm sure you're prob'ly just kidding, because I'm sure Jason is still wrapped up with moving.  , probably Han and maybe 1 or 2 more are busy getting ready for some international travel setting up their booth in Vegas (or having some fun there) as we speak.  (Got a week ahead of myself there.)
