Depending about what PSU you are talking about - firecracker? Good 450W PSU can handle the 1080 GTX Ti + Core i7 7700k with 95 TDP or AMD Ryzen 1700 with 65 TDP if you not plan to overclock the Ryzen.

 

Uhm, this is getting seriously OT, but just this then:

 

The main catch is that you are within safe limits of the power output under load on all of the voltage busses.

 

Your example is really a tad conservative for my taste (if you are using such successfilly, all the better). Here's why. It's an old article, and I just use it for illustration of my point, rather han absolute truth. But in short, with your 450 W PSU, I'd expect you to run into problems very soon. It is actually at the very edge of its capabilities. SSD's draw more power than one might think. USB peripherals (such as your joystick) add to total system load as well.

 

Your graphics card draws alomst 300 W at peak loads, leaving 150 W for everything else. Besides, does your PSU really support 300 W on the PCIe 12 V bus? I'd seriously question that. You can also assume that games put the CPU under considerable load, so it is reasonable to calculate with max TDP power. So, say, 90 W (in average). Add to that 40 W for the mainboard, this leaves you with 20 W for *everything else*. Your entire USB stuff, hard drives etc. Each SSD will draw about 4 W under load, HDD calculate 10 W (to be safe).

 

If your PSU runs well under these conditons, you're lucky. But you're taxing it beyond it's limits and you should expect it to fail on you soon. As you are using an ultra highend GPU, you primarily should look for a PSU that can deliver 300 W on the 12 V PCIe and still maybe retain some 10% margin. It will not be easy to find a PSU that can do that and only provide 450 W in total.

 

Also, if you OC the CPU and let the mainboad determine the voltage, you quickly and significantly go beyond specified TDP, putting your power budget under water instantly.

 

Expect a rig like you are describing to draw at least 500 W under full load (not even peak load). I'd go for 600+ W to be safe (and be able to power directly connected peripherals). Also consider that your PSU is only "gold" at like 75% or so power. At 102% it is not "gold" and neither is it at 45%. Depending on how many you have of those, go for 650 W.

Back to the DD... I'd like to see some info on the new campaign system... will it just be the same as RoF but set in WWII, or will it have completely new features?

What does the GUI look like?

 

Will all planes that are currently available be usable in BoS, BoM and BoK regardless of what version of the game they were released in? (if they were used in that theatre of the conflict of course)...

 

Will we be able to choose our flights skins and not just the aircraft we are flying?

 

If we carry out a successful forced landing over the lines, will we be automatically considered captured, or will there be a chance to be considered 'successfully evaded and returned to duty' ... (I know WoFF has this feature. It would be great to see it in the BoS series)

If that's the case, then the waypoints and the events that happen along them will not resemble what we see in the current campaign mode. The routes drawn by the mission generator in the RoF career could vary a lot and mostly made a good deal of sense.

 

One thing I'd really like is for the generator to take into account enemy air bases and other heavily defended areas, and if possible draw the mission route to avoid flying over these dangerous areas.

I've been playing some of Rise of Flight's career mode and its far more organic than the waypoint, action, waypoint scenario we have in IL-2: BoS. I honestly think they had zero time available to make career anything more sophisticated so they did the best they could at the time. What ROF has is far superior. It's not perfect but its very good.

I hope, you are right, this would be much more enjoyable than the current campaign missions.

Absolutely agreed, this was already in old 1946 no fun, the flight routes always over as much heavily by AAA defended areas as possible. Noone would fly this way.

They stated that multiple times indeed. The only thing that isn't quiet clear to me is the release date of the Hs-129. In the last DD they hinted that it would be presented in a couple of weeks. But AFAIK it wasn't officially part of 2.012.

Yup. I'm inclined to read Han's statement regarding the HS-129 that they'll be able to "present it to you soon" as an indication that they hope to provide screenshots, rather than release it. There is a lot of new content in 2.012, and I suspect they will prioritise getting that up and running first, rather than adding more content.

They pretty much never give an exact date, because there is no telling what might happen in beta testing. Last update was an anomaly, because they deliberately delayed release to get past the summer sale.

They already showed screenshots a few DDs ago. We might be closer than we thought, although i doubt it will be released with this month's patch sice it already has a lot of major updates in it.

Typically once they say an aircraft is complete... they have about a 4 week period of beta testing. Or thereabouts because we tend to get it about a month after they say its finished.

 

I'm guessing September patch. I'm prepared to be pleasantly surprised mind you.

I think he meant the first post in this thread for the upcoming DD. A complete list of changes would be nice indeed. I'm still wondering about the releasedate of the Hs-129. Will it be 2.0.12 or the month after that. Hope the first! Nonetheless i think we can't complain about the amount in new stuff in the upcoming patch.
