AlexandreCosta Posted June 20 Posted June 20 Before this game is abandoned I really hope they fix the wingmen radio instructions and AI in general. So as least we can enjoy the single player experience way better. 1
Enceladus828 Posted June 20 Posted June 20 I wouldn’t expect anything too major with that. The devs stated in Brief Room 1 that for you to be warned of incoming aircraft by your wingmen and to request help would require a major overhaul of the AI 1

If they would start today the map would not be finished for over two years, at best, and more likely five. This version of the game will be long abandoned by the majority of players by then. All very good points.

I just wish there was somewhere else other than Kuban where we could use Eastern Front planes that were in service in 1943 such as the Bf-109 G-4/6, Fw-190 A-5/6, La-5F/FN and Yak-9T. Adding maps such as Crimea, Kursk and Smolensk would give them a new purpose thus increasing their value and contribution to Great Battles. And it would shed light on other areas of the Eastern Front during 1943. Edited June 26 by Jackfraser24

ST_Catchov Posted July 12 Posted July 12 What about this. And we get a Morane Parasol. Of course, it's top secret so Luke can't say yet hence the silence. 1 1
tattywelshie Posted July 18 Posted July 18 Wonder if there's any chance of a GB DD today? What say you @LukeFF? 1

A little bit of history on that photo... Zeppelin L20, raider of Loughborough on 31 January 1916 Constructed as LZ 59 at Friedrichshafen, and first flown on 21 Dec 1915, L 20 was based at Tønder until 21 Feb 1916 then moved to Seddin until 6 Apr, at which time it was re-deployed to Tønder. During its four months in service, the 35,800m³ L 20 made nineteen flights covering a total of 7,211 km; including six reconnaissance missions and two successful bombing raids over England.

Yes, her demise was quite dramatic and no, she was not shot down but rather suffered some unfortunate ..... nah peeps can read about it themselves. It's interesting stuff. I'm hoping one day 1C will consider making one of them things for FC.

ROF needed it and they didn't do it. Great Battles needed it and they didn't do it. If this team does all of this work bringing this engine up to date and optimizes it take advantage of multicore CPUs and doesn't vastly improve the AI and comms, then it will be the end of IL2 for any serious single player support. I am in a wait see pattern because I will not by another sim from 1C/777 if they are going to include the same old pretty much boring and severely limited AI and especially AI to player and player to AI comms and control. My 2 cents. S!Blade<>< 2
MDzmitry Posted July 29 Posted July 29 (edited) 2 часа назад, BladeMeister сказал: AI to player and player to AI comms and control. Honestly, I understand your concern. But I'll play the Devil's advocate and say that it's quite unlikely that we'll see any new major systems implemented. A bit too tall an order for a developer having one's hands full working on a completely new entry. Still, I too would like to see at least some improvements on this front, which I've tried to make as "not bothersome" as possible: 1) AI to player communication: my foremost gripe is how the AI more often than not tends to engage an enemy without any prior warning. Occasionally they use the "Engaging ___, (bearing), (distance)". But that's not consistent and lacks the feel of the "it's begun". What I'd suggest is recording literally 1 line (albeit, ideally, in multiple voices) for the commander to say: "Звено (or Эскадрилья), в атаку! (bearing)" for the Soviets, something along the lines of "Horrido! (bearing)" for the Germans, "Bandits, (bearing), attack!" for the Americans and "Tally-ho! (bearing)" for the Brits. Just examples that pop to my mind. Maybe also add target's relative altitude after its bearing while we're at it, both are already present and used in the "Engaging" message. That would be rather easy to trigger - by tying this line to the AI's switch from passive flying to aggressive. Alternatively, if the player's a squad leader, then it can replace his aforementioned "personal" line of "Engaging ..." to substitute the originally solitary line with a call for an entire flight to engage. 2) Player to AI communication: I'm sorry in advance for bringing this up, but (as an example) in War Thunder there's a sub-menu of voice commands. They don't do anything but let the player communicate his intent, and honestly something similar could be done at least in IL-2's single player (if not also in MP). We already have a full list of statements like "out of ammo", "returning to base", etc. What's required in this case is to provide a menu similar to the one accessible (originally) through ~ to call upon these voice lines. Or maybe even just add said commands within that very menu (there we already have pilot gestures and, for flight leaders, commands to AI). And what could be the cherry on top for this would be the simple reply like "(Player's call sign and number), roger". Edited July 29 by MDzmitry

The truth of the matter is that good AI developers are in very high demand. We're hardly the first wargame developer out there who's had a hard time securing someone to do AI work for them, so if you think we've not been trying to find someone you are greatly mistaken. 🙂 1
