My 609 sqn campaign is making slow progress. I am working on my 12th historical mission (which coincides with D-Day). I think there will be ~16 or so in total, ending in the late summer '44.

I´m really looking forward to his campaign. I hope that maybe someday we get an early car door typhoon (and an early Normandy map) and campaign around the events of 1942/43 will be possible.

I've been wondering the same thing, only about Romania. It's a pity the thread you linked is locked so we cannot ask for clarification there.

Is it the beginning of a "This week in WWII aviation history" "series" where LukeFF posts some interesting tidbits every week? (Sounds nice!)

Is it a subtle hint towards some collector plane or a new map coming in the near or distant future? (Something to do with the IAR perhaps?)

Is it a subtle hint towards the Dev team's new "project"?
Is it simply a random fact that LukeFF thought interesting? (Then why pin and lock it?)

@LukeFF, care to clarify? :)

Sure! ? It's something new that I was asked to do when I was hired as the new community manager - posting a brief entry about something interesting that happened in military aviation history during the week in question. I have one more entry planned for later this week.

Sounds great! Looking forward to your next entries! :)

(And slightly disappointed that we now cannot spend a multitude of pages speculating about what it means :P)

Do you plan as coronation to add in-game screenshots from the B-24, B-17 or the Ju 88 packed with explosives in the nose section and a Bf 109 or Fw 190 mounted to the top of the fuselage fly raids against the Normandy invasion fleet......???

I'm starting to get a dopamine hit from these non-DD days, just knowing that each week of waiting is one more week of developing the beast that will one day imerge.

They mentioned working on the tech side of things and I really hope we get a generational graphics upgrade (mainly the environment/map) in addition to whatever other goodness may be in the works. Given the wait, we can assume it'll be something with a bit of a Wow factor. Fingers crossed. Week by week we get closer.

It helps not having a gaming PC for another year or so though, haha.

Go Team!

The most exciting thing in that 5+ hours of Twitch streaming was at exactly 1 minute in when our host took his hat off.

We then had one and a half hours of ”it’s air racing Jim…but not as we know it”.

Followed by three and a half hours of War Thunder.

Very strange.

I'd go for Korea... can't see me flying over California involved in a large air battle.

Well, if they do that, it should really be two modules: Korea and Germany (circa 1948-1955). After the first few months Korea largely turns into close support operations. Pairing it was a European theatre module would give us a more numerically balanced scenario with more types of aircraft on each side (e.g. Vampire fighter bombers and Venoms, Il-28 and Canberra, La-15 and Mig-17A, more F-86 derivatives, more use of the Il-10M). If they are putting in the effort for Korea it really makes the most sense to do both (~4-5 years of development).

Not sure how commercially viable a purely what-if-scenario is. I'd really like Korea, but 1950s Germany, no thanks.

It needs just two words for Korea to fail -> 1. Drop Tanks and 2. Carrier

Korea was a lot more than carriers. It's not a pass/fail situation.

Well, the thing is - you are basically creating a situation where the market consists of "people who like flying American planes while doing ground attack". (If it isn't focussed on the first couple of months).

As for a what-if scenario, we know the unit distributions, the aircraft involved (and even quite a bit about doctrine)... and I met a pilot who experienced several sorties in which he was effectively told the war had begun - and they relied on radio to abort the sortie every time (although this might have been during the Cuban Missile crisis - it shows how little speculation is required about such a scenario).

In all original videos from this era you see how the F-80, F-86 Sabre or the Mig-15 start, fly and attack with drop tanks.  Carriers are just one part from the puzzle next are the drop tanks. If drop tanks are not a pass/fail situtation then they ignore the historical relevance....................
