Everything that is said in that newsletter we knew from previous DDs. The only thing that stands out is the mention that the next update is 'huge' (because of all the wwi stuff, I reckon) and that it's coming 'soon'*.

One thing to remember is that the majority of players never set foot in the forum, so those emails are how they find out about things.

 

I always get the email news, but they are always several days or a couple weeks after reading about it here.

Not a DD, but here is the update related text from the email that went out in support of the Spring sale starting on Steam.

As others have noted, all of this was on previous DD's, so not new info . But since some are indicating they have not received the email yet, I thought I would post it here.

 

Dear Friends,

We're preparing another huge update 5.101 this month. It will bring the Pilot's Career mode and updated Western Front WWI map for Flying Circus Vol.I and Vol.II...thus making possible the official release of Flying Circus Vol.II.

The new Collector Plane Spitfire Mk.XIVe with teardrop canopy will be released as well.

The new historical campaign will be added in this update for free for all Battle of Normandy owners - Wings over Caen! Become a Typhoon pilot and do your part in the battle of Caen!

In addition to the new content, the update will bring numerous improvements and fixes, as always. Keep an eye on our news feed - 5.101 is coming soon!

Yes, add the coal slags and new models and freshen up the old Rheinland map

It'd be really neat if they'd partner with a third party to upgrade the Rhineland and Normandy maps!

I will never understand why they never allowed qualified 3rd party modelers to do this. 
 

Experience from other titles proves there is a lot of talent out there, many who work as a labor of love and build amazing things on their own time. MSFS has people all over the world that build object libraries on their own time, just out of passion for the sim.

I recall Jason saying in the 2016 BoK Q&A near the end that he doesn't want amateur 3rd party modelllers running loose with the code -- they can't give the RoF code away because it would reveal too much the current game engine, and Jason has elected not to do crowd funding projects. I'm a bit rusty on some of these details but making content in this game is much harder than some may think. For example, some groups tried making a Murmansk and Odessa map but it proved to be too complex, which is sad because the Odessa map looked like it was almost done -- just had to implement the water effects from the Kuban map and then it would go into Beta.

Jep, sad story with both projects. Would have payed for both if they would have materialized with an implemented SP career mode.

I think they tried early on and the map developers exhausted themselves? I could definitely see a volunteer team improving existing maps though.

 

I also suspect that maps could be sold for single-player (even if they are free for multiplayer and don't come with aircraft)... I'm not sure how profitable that would be though - especially given how expensive it can be to develop a map.

Well @Wardog5711, couple of interesting images and tidbits of information. Wouldn’t it have been better to put them in a DD than bury them in this long and rambling thread?

DD's are traditionally used for new information and the content is generated by the DEV staff, not by me.

I posted the non-sale related info in this thread in reply to several people commenting that they hadn't seen the full email.

The sale info was already posted in it's own thread and had no relavence here. 

Nothing in that email was new and had already been covered in previous DD's.

And besides, this is the most active thread on the forum right now. ?

Yea this is the most active thread at this time. Everything else seem's dead /quiet then it was a couple months ago. But I suppose that's due to the lack of news, real life and other things player's moving on also.
