The flyable part will probably be a mod.  Being stranded on a tropical island with Katherine Ross will also be a mod.

I was very relieved that the Collie also survived.  Ability to hoist a dog into a helicopter should also be a mod.

Screw that, I think Final Countdown campaign should come with the free DCS World download.

If the Nimitz were to be sucked back in a time warp, 39 years from the present day, as the movie was from 1941, what kinds of enemy aircraft might they encounter?

you old bastards.?

Easy now.  Lets stay away from politics.
Very far away from it.

For what you'd probably pay for it, I'd hope the FM (float model) is good

I doubt that very much... they will continue to slowly give us snippets of information on the promised content left to come, probably drawing that out for as long as possible.

I'd love to be wrong of course...

Eventually.  I suspect they want to present ‘the next project’ to us with something that’s ready to go; a couple of planes and a map of sorts.

Unfortunately they don’t really understand marketing or communication in the way Jason did so.

I tested it, it requires a lot of bombs to dive

What’s a DD?

Apparently something Janson used to deliver.  Which begs the question, what is a Janson?

To be honest though, he did a relatively good job - but it wasn't that good at pushing information into other contexts (i.e. it was mainly informing existing fans, rather than advertising too and finding ways to gain the interest of new people who might not be that knowledgeable or interested yet). So he wasn't optimal either.

That said, given the limited resources at hand he didn't do a bad job - just that there is a lot of potential for growth if they had more voiced tutorials, published some partnered videos on the real history behind each module and a "Glowing Amraam" video creator etc.

Lol well they certainly did not learn anything from it, communication is not one of their strong points any longer - hardly even a point at this stage.

Oh well reckon at some point they are going to need to actually make some money, so eventually I guess we will see a new product of sorts.

No point in doing that if you want to generate interest in your product...

It's as if they are purposely trying to lose their customer's interest in their product.

Cuz that's exactly what they're doing

But OK, good thing that I'm not a huge gamer and genuinely don't care about this that much, but for some average teenager Joe that's addicted to simming this isn't probably best thing for them to do..

LoL.  If you put it that way, its probably the best thing that ever happened to these game addicts! Take off your headsets, put down your bag of Doritos, and go outside, you lazy bums! ???

Your are right, I guess after Jason left they just went back to, well..... being Russians ?

I guess it's fancy these days to blame people for "being Russians", but remember, the old Il-2? It was made by Russians. We got constant news. heck i got a free demo, long before the game was even released. Here with the former "market oriented" exec, we had to prepay years in advance for everything.

Remember also that DCS started as a Russian company, look where they got.

Marketing is like herpes, you either have it, or you don't.

I for one would love it if things went back to the ' Old Russian days of the old Il-2".

No we didn’t.  You didn’t have to prepay for anything.

No we didn't but most people kind of understand that opening preorders, for a plane, days or weeks after the modeler started laying blueprints in a 3d modeling software, and years before release, is not a honest business practice.

Just because a customer is interested in your product, it doesn't mean that you should take his money years in advance and then ignore him for two years.

It's a ? way to do business and sooner or later you'll chase away any potential customers.

I preordered most of the stuff released by this team, since the start of ROF. I still have three products on preorder right now. This "give me the money years in advance and then, pi$$ off" attitude, put an end to that.

I don't think we've had enough time to do that.

To us it feels like they aren't promoting the game - because we were used to one or two screenshots every week (which wasn't always the case btw.) in our development updates... but that is because we are used to these little updates with regard to progress, not necessarily because it is the only way to market the game.

With regard to engaging with the hardcore fans, and making accessible content - They certainly have tried to improve communication with video content and Q&A - as well as being on the forums (and often being extremely candid with us). It may turn out that they are better at promoting the game. :)

We also need to remember that the senior devs have English as a second language... which might also impact our perceptions, but they'll likely find ways to communicate (e.g. have a good proof-reading system for dev updates to catch bits of odd English grammar etc.)

Note: I'm saying English has odd grammar

So, first - in the current game industry it isn't that common to have pre-orders be months (or even sometimes years) ahead of release. It is only dishonest if the marketing is inaccurate (or if they have no intention of delivering what they promised).

Second, we haven't been ignored for two years - there have been several development updates on the IAR-80/81... we've even had a senior team member saying that it took longer than expected and also saying that they wished the pre-order had been delayed (in case this happened).

As for me - I'm rather happy to have pre-ordered it... even if I also understand your... well, unrequited love!

Sort of lost it some time ago. It is just the intellectual stubbornness, which forces me into a Friday nights mp-environment, getting my dose of frustration, caused by, ehemm, historical accuracy... LOL (DM and FM, you know? ). But that is just me, your milage may vary...

Correct.  There was really no need to say any more.  If you’re worried that the product may not be available quickly enough for you, don’t preorder.  Problem solved.
