Finkeren Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 So? What's up for today or tomorrow? Screens of the new IL-2 flying on the Kuban map (or maybe the Spit)? Patch notes for the coming update? Screens of the new water effects? A more detailed insight into the new rudder forces model? Take your pick.
Asgar Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 we're near to the release of the next patch. maybe some details on the things coming? or skin preview for Heinkel 111 or Fw 190 A-5
Finkeren Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Oh the skins for the 190 would be good. The generic one we've seen was underwhelming.
Danziger Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Yes I think some good old fashioned Il2 DD would be nice with my paczki on Fat Thursday.
=SqSq=Sulaco Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 It's the Russian Defender of the Fatherland for them this weekend so it would be a great weekend for some news but also a great weekend for them to have some time off so it could go either way I guess?!
Finkeren Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 (edited) since when is Russia the Fatherland? IIRC the commonly used term "rodina" or "rodinu" simply means "homeland" or "family", neither "father-" nor "motherland" as it is usually translated. Edited February 23, 2017 by Finkeren
Scojo Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 I want to hear more on the A-20B! I'm sure not a lot has happened with it since the last update though, so any of the stuff Finkeren mentioned is good too lol
Gambit21 Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 since when is Russia the Fatherland? Oh you know - Mother Russia the Fatherland. 1
Dakpilot Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 since when is Russia the Fatherland? Since...history Velikaya Otechestvennaya Voyna, the Great Patriotic (Fatherland) War, from the word otechestvo, fatherland (otets = father) Cheers Dakpilot
Scojo Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Oh you know - Mother Russia the Fatherland. Single parenting is rough 5

Dakpilot Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 (edited) no historically, Russia is known as the Motherland. first association when i hear Fatherland is Germany Not trying to be rude but perhaps you may give some thought to the fact that there is much history in the world that is not only from YOUR personal perspective It has been 'Defender of the Fatherland Day' since 1919 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defender_of_the_Fatherland_Day Cheers Dakpilot Edited February 23, 2017 by Dakpilot
Feathered_IV Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 If not Thursday, then definitely Friday. Which is actually Saturday if you are living where I do.
pilotpierre Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 If not Thursday, then definitely Friday. Which is actually Saturday if you are living where I do. Where we do. I wonder how many of us there are down here?

Well I guess you will just have to tell everyone in Russia they have been getting it wrong since 1919.... sheesh give it up already, accept that this is the name of the holiday for hundreds of millions of people for nearly 100 years.... Cheers Dakpilot
Luftschiff Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 Well I guess you will just have to tell everyone in Russia they have been getting it wrong since 1919.... sheesh give it up already, accept that this is the name of the holiday for hundreds of millions of people for nearly 100 years.... Cheers Dakpilot A hundred years...? The wikipedia article you linked explicitly states that it was given that name in 2002, by Putin. Before then it was various versions of Red/Soviet Army day, commemorating the creation of the armed forces.
Luftschiff Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 Not at all, I'm quite confused as to what algorithms decide what trivial topics will become a point of contention for any given thread, it did seem a bit unfair on Asgar though - But I'm just here to talk about the Kuban map or the new Heinkel. My black bomber heart is all aflutter!
Dakpilot Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 (edited) I don't think Putin invented this word " otechestvo" or this phrase, День защитника Отечества in 2002? the holiday has been around for nearly 100 years Seriously are people so upset by the use of Fatherland in another culture? does National Socialism have a licence for it? as said does it really matter? and why is it important, Rodina does not even translate as " Motherland" both phrases were 'appropriated' at times in history for Nationalistic propaganda, get over it The Holiday is called what it is and that is just a simple fact **edit** I am sure this same discussion was started about this holiday name last or year before... Luftschiff Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 Exactly noone is upset about the word fatherland, Dak. Ansgar was making an observation about the terms in popular culture, I was pointing out that you misquoted the article and you seem to be upset about the term Motherland, but Finkeren is right, let's just move on.

How on earth would you construe that I am upset about Motherland from anything I said, I am not Russian or have any ties, the only thing I find mildly upsetting is when "popular culture" is used instead of real history and facts time to move on maybe we will get a stealth DD update today! it has happened before on a friday Cheers Dakpilot
Fliegel Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 Well I think that both is accetable. http://blog.oxforddictionaries.com/2015/05/identity-crisis-motherland

Scojo Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 Does it really matter? No, but maybe they just really want the Devs to clarify in the DD what we should call it in the Simulator.
Brano Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 Word otechestvo in russian means fatherland. Great Patriotic War is an english translation, maybe more precise would be Great War for Fatherland. Mother Russia is a personification of the Fatherland transferring gendre to feminin. In russian " Mat Rus" for the land that gives birth and life to Russians. In slavic countries we reffer to fatherland in terms of possession of "land of our fathers" to express that country we live in was that of fathers and fathers of their fathers. Feminine personification reffers more to emotional bondage. In slovak language we have simmilar word " otchina" but it is a bit archaic and not many people use it in common speach. 2
Dakpilot Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 yep exactly, only one upset is clearly Dakpilot also: Video of MG 131 in use for suprise DD today Not upset, just disappointed with attitude, because HURR DURR "google Fatherland you will see it is German, that is proof" Time to move on Cheers Dakpilot
