I’ve gotta say, some of the fun and clever comments this thread used to generate in anticipation of a DD have fallen of a cliff for the last few weeks.

That was half the fun on this forum....but then Wardog5711 came and he really likes to show up here first thing in the morning to ruin it for everyone. ?

I'm as anxious as you are to be able to start talking. (Well not as much as some folks here.. ?)

But until I'm cleared hot, it's not happening.

And you've probably noticed that there is nothing leaking over from the RU side or from external sources.

So, you are not being treated any differently.

Hard pill to swallow if no DD today

Posted

The game is fun but the real reason I spend time with IL2 is for the DDs.  I support the devs so I can keep the DDs comming and occasionally play the game.  Even a no DD week is a joy.  As long as it is DD (or no DD) Friday I am happy.

Rejoice, the new project is probably a DD simulator.

Normally it would be two weeks, but with inflation these days it's now two months.

Yeah, they could do a video called "2023, a year of DD and beyond" to tease us about all the DDs coming our way (but more seriously they could learn a thing or two from a certain 2023 and beyond video though...)

I am going to go out on a wild limb here guys, but predict - there ain't gonna be no new DD today.

Let's see.  Your prediction was approximately 12:00am GMT.That's almost like predicting the winning horse between the last pole and the finish line isn't it?

Why is there no notification when there's no DD @Wardog5711

There's very little communication since Jason left, if any at all.  Look like bunch of amateurs now that can't promote their game and interact with community.

The main problem is not holidays in that case…

I guess they have to convince that their job is essential where they are actually

I agree, I don’t know if it’s perception or maybe it’s more we don’t know what’s coming next, but the excitement levels have definitely dropped off. Knowing our luck the next DD will be about some obscure armoured car or something equally boring ?

Who knows?... I just get the feeling they might not want to say anything because the whole shebang is at risk of going down the tubes... so, best to say nothing.

Yeah I’ve just got a bad feeling, i

mean there was a good bit of chat a good few months back about it and now nothing at all.

So, DD now stands for... DoomsDay ?

IMHO since at least 3 more collector planes will most probably become available and work for FC2 is ongoing il-2 GB is still far from a dead sim.

Or maybe for competitive reasons the management is not ready to display it yet.

I can think of three right off the top of my head.

One that we deride as arcade, that has more players than all the other combat flight titles combined.

One that specializes in modern jets, but is working more on the WW2 side of things.

One that has a new producer at the helm that knows a thing or three about WW2 simulation.

Yeah and DCS have released their 2023 tailer so we know what they are up to. Maybe it’s linked to the whole Jason thing somehow?

Well. The latest generation loves arcade. Jump on with unlimited ammo and fly like a madman. Yeah, it has its fans.
My so gets on occasionally and flies directly off the keyboard, flicking views all around and mostly from behind the external of the aircraft. Totally unrealistic flight and damage models, even by my son's reckoning, but it's instant, intense and totally unrealistic. And does not require HOTAS or anything special. All done from keyboard.

Imagine what the next post on this forum would be if IL2 released that sort of garbage.

I’ve been away from this forum for a bit & wondered if I’d missed a big announcement about the big future project. I guess not.

I’ve taken a break from GB & have been playing CloD. I think it’s harder than GB (and maybe more realistic) but is a lot of fun!

GB got no real competition on what they do.
If not changing their route that is.
And that is a shame if they did. I strongly advise not to. Because those they then will compete with is pretty good in what they do.

Anyone that loves that, will hate Il2.

There isn't much of a way of content for DCS and there isn't going to be anything comparable for quite some time.

Microprose? There isn't any content as of yet and it is far from being anywhere near the content to compete.

I don't think those three are competition; sort of apples and oranges.

If you like arcade, I doubt that you will like IL-2; I think probably IL-2 has stolen more users from that game than the other way around.

As for the jet-oriented game, it doesn't compete on WWII air battles or value.

As for any future ventures, sure they might compete, but if they are a WWII flight sim, I would bet that everyone who likes WWII air sim gaming will simply buy both if they are both really good, not one or the other.

but next project is most likely Korea war, so it is in competition with DCS then more then now

I don't disagree with you, but IMHO, these are the competitors, and so I can understand upper management here not wanting to tip their hand too much.  This is the point I am making.    I am thinking 3 to 7 years down the road, and I suspect so is the dev team, and the "competition".  The future is what matters, not the way things are now.

You got it wrong.  All are competition for Il-2GB and so is FS2020.  They all compete for our limited playing time.

All of them are overall more successful and more modern that Il-2GB.   Il-2 does the ww2 thing a bit better, but people are after fun in their limited time so if they think it's more fun to fly a jet or a civilian plane, in a much more modern game, they will do it.

And they have nothing of interest (that is of course subjective) in the pipeline.
