It's only Thursday my dudes. It's not too late.

I guess we will have to wait 3 or 4 weeks.

Given that there is a lot coming up i'm fine with such a timespan. Should there be something before that I would of course be more than happy.

Jason's post sounded more like 1-2 weeks. So, somewhere between one and four I suppose.

American college football starts in two weeks so I have a distraction if it comes later rather than sooner :)

I was under the impression that it would happen in August

I automatically added a couple of weeks to it and thought we'd find out around the second or third week of September.

On Russian forum Danil wrote smtg about developing more detailed tank part of the game. That's what I'm looking for the most. Broneboynym zalezaaaai! :D

Excellent news!

It was explained by Danil that tank/ground warfare was always part of their long term plans and I see nothing wrong with it. Heading towards combined arms simulator is a good way how to attract new players to this franchise. There are many tankers around left with no option in terms of modern tank simulator.

lol just the best way to distract the devs and kill the game

Aha,so devs implemented tanks to their long term plans because they felt the need to be distracted and their product killed. lol...lol?

Im pretty sure they are not "distracted". They have a plan and they are executing it.

If you have a good project manager and a solid plan and you stick to that plan - new content and new types of content are not distractions. When you do this kind of thing it all gets costed out, there are detailed and sometimes complex timelines drawn up, and you connect that with sales and advertising. What we don't know about are things like internal staff changes. Perhaps they hire another 3D modeler, a programmer, and someone else and they are exclusive to a tank project that is sold as a product that plugs into the IL-2 world.

It'd be really interesting. It's something I've mused about before after they showed off that tanks were perfectly possible in their game engine.

The idea of combined arms is indeed a compelling one.  However, with the limitations of the game engine at present, it would seem to pose some pretty daunting challenges.

Perhaps if it was first tried in a less detailed area where armor could move more freely without interaction with high concentrations of villages, towns and umm... trees.

You know, the Western Desert...

Although a lot of tank fun can be the cat and mouse game...the idea of everyone out in the open charging at each other with little or no cover sounds awesome.

There's definitely cover... cover by elevation changes.

Your be surprised how far you can actually see in the desert and make out vehicles and identify them as enemy . Its not that easy . Heat reduces visibility .

If focus is still given to overall gameplay and acceptable performances tanks are OK for me. In fact, we had a lot of improvements since the 64 bits release in terms of performance and maybe there is now much more room to improvement than before. If the devs are comfortable with it and assure it won't spoil the overall performance and gameplay why not ...  I just hope that we will not sink into  "useless details" that would be too much performance consuming.

In IT sky is not the limit. We don't have infinite ressources ... this kind of choices can be decisive. All is question of compromise and balance. Just imagine the gameplay improvement in terms of tactics and strategy if we could have an extended visibility bubble... I would trade 1 million details for that kind of enhancement !

Personally I think that too much details can kill the gameplay.

I am all for open world multiplayer world war 2 . In fact it would be awesome the  64bit and DX11 is the right step forward  .

This engine can not handle it  .

Guys ever heard of WWII Online: Battleground Europe? My ideal game would just be that with IL-2s visuals and attention to detail.

Hmm, so what chances are that this will be THE week bringing the news everyone is waiting for ? Latest Dev diary obviously did not contain much of the future, reserved for that one special announcement. But end of the month is approaching rapidly and so does the excitement.

No rush.  We're in a sort of honeymoon period at the moment, where just about everyone is looking forward to the announcement with a notion that their own pet project will be the one that wins through.  We should probably enjoy this brief interlude to the fullest before the big reveal, and the sh*tstorm of complaining engulfs us.

I was of the opinion that I really can't be bothered with another Eastern Front scenario and wouldn't buy it straight off, but would just wait for the inevitable sales in the future before purchase...

However, with the news that Jason was now holding the reins, plus his comments on the future, with a vision of hoping to cover all of WWII theatres, has made me sit up and listen.

Now I know this game will not stay solely in the east, but will branch out elsewhere, I'm happy to buy the next theatre produced, regardless of where it is.

His comments of late have re-energised many more I am hoping, so that fresh interest and more importantly, revenue, will start heading in the games direction.
