wtornado Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 Should be interesting what the FPS drop will be once DX11 is implemented. Were you on holidays Bearcat I did not see you often around in the forum.
Picchio Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 (edited) Picchio...keep posting that pic all over the forums...its not funny and honestly the internet has moved on from facepalm. Just so you know. Did you get shot down by a tank or something? Man, you got me... it is my true intention to bring it back into fashion. But who knows, maybe it will help us reacquire perspective on the things that matter about this genre. Edited July 23, 2016 by Picchio
Albino Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 Man, you got me... it is my true intention to bring it back into fashion. But who knows, maybe it will help us reacquire perspective on the things that matter about this genre. The irony is that I'm not a tanker. My interest is purely in 777/IC having another successful product to fund development of IL-2 and whatever follows.
ShamrockOneFive Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 can anyone explain what direct 11 brings into our sim except better VR support ? i m basicly clueless about this stuff In theory... Higher frame rates, better lighting/shadows, textures and improved shaders. DX9 is pretty old so updating to DX11 should unlock some potential within video cards released in the last.... 5 years? Something like that. It should be a net benefit to everyone although the differences may be subtle if the team goes for straight update to DX11 with no additional graphical features (at first).
GrendelsDad Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 Yes Picchio...like fun...and broader player base. Sure we can agree on that.

JG27_Chivas Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 DX11 is very good news as VR is the future of flight sims. DX12 would be better, but I'm sure the developers have done the math, and DX11 suits their time, and budget restraints.
Urra Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 We have plans to update the engine to DX11. That will take a few months if everything goes well. And we will build support for VR as we have said. We continue to have discussions on what to build next and the team works to put BOM on Steam. When we're ready we'll make an announcement. Jason Many thanks!!!
GrendelsDad Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 Should be interesting what the FPS drop will be once DX11 is implemented. Were you on holidays Bearcat I did not see you often around in the forum. Tornado I am interested too. But I did not know about the multi-thread for the CPU being such a benefit either...Hopefully that will offset any frame loss since the MIN. frames are so CPU dependent. Seems like most of us are playing with extra frames when the CPU is not bottlenecking performance. I am not an expert, just speculating.
BlueHeron Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 Great news. For AMD users, the switch from DX 9 to DX 11 brought a tremendous increase in FPS, and of course, this opens the door to Oculus Rift support. Bravo, good sirs!
Boomerang Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 (edited) Huge news re the Developers working towards upgrading the engine to DX11. Hard to imagine but, it would be a massive task migrating all the existing data to DX11, better now than later, (good decision). Edited July 24, 2016 by Boomerang
Albino Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 DX11 also allows use of the Direct Compute library, which might allow calculations (eg; flight model) to be offloaded onto the GPU and free up CPU resources.
150GCT_Veltro Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 (edited) A good decision! Finally the DX11, a must today! Edited July 24, 2016 by 150GCT_Veltro
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 The horror, the horror! We're doomed! Good news Jason, thanks for keeping us up to date
L3Pl4K Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 This sim just died, throwing a lot of money, that they dont even have, on a old tech that will make no difference for the user..... sorry its over!
LLv24_Zami Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 Great news about Dx upgrade! Another step forward for the core of this sim which benefits us all. Can`t really see how that could be a bad thing
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 DX11 is widely spread among modern games and there's also no flight sim feauturing DX12 that I know of. Also, Windows 10 users shouldn't be the only ones allowed to enjoy BoS. 1
Boomerang Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 Had no idea that was the only case with Win 10 users, a good point you have there 5tuka!
BraveSirRobin Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 This sim just died, throwing a lot of money, that they dont even have, on a old tech that will make no difference for the user..... sorry its over! Sad Master Mastertroller 1
Jade_Monkey Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 (edited) The Windows 10 upgrade is not really a valid excuse. There has been a free upgrade for about a year now. If you choose not to upgrade that's fine (there are good reasons not to upgrade), but you are intentionally alienating yourself. Edited July 24, 2016 by Jade_Monkey 2
MadisonV44 Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 (edited) A good news for me to know that W7 supports DX11 @Jade_Monkey : A little tolerance for others would be welcome ... people do not always dedicate their config to a single application, they are also trying to do some compromise in order to optimize their investment. For a lot of good reasons some people will stay on 7 for a while. Just have a look to compatibility matrix in the music area when you have to support a DAW version, the corresponding driver, soundcards hardware, USB driver, plugins, add ons ... JG13_opcode Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 (edited) This sim just died, throwing a lot of money, that they dont even have, on a old tech that will make no difference for the user..... sorry its over! Sad Master That makes no sense. DX11 is not "old tech". 90% of the posts I see regarding DirectX/Direct3D are by people who clearly don't understand how graphics rendering actually works. This is one of those posts. Switching to DX12 does not magically make the game look better. If the same models and textures are used the game will look exactly the same. The Windows 10 upgrade is not really a valid excuse. There has been a free upgrade for about a year now. If you choose not to upgrade that's fine (there are good reasons not to upgrade), but you are intentionally alienating yourself. Some of us don't want an operating system that spies on us and calls home to Microsoft with details about what you search for and assigns you a unique advertising ID. If you do, congrats. I guess I value my privacy more than you do. Edited July 24, 2016 by 13GIAP_opcode 1
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 Let's not turn this into another Windoes 10 vs older discussion pls. People already shared their opinions about it. Closed case. And no, making some things mandatory is not well for marketing... 2
Rjel Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 Good God. Where else but a flight sim community find one find arguments about seemingly good news? Some of you folks must be a lot fun to hang out with. 3

Moving to DX11 can only be a good thing, but some people are determined to make it seem like a failure. (I'm super fun to hang out with. Promise ) Edited July 24, 2016 by 13GIAP_opcode 1

SCG_Neun Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 Glad to hear this. It's good news for the continuation of a really excellent game and I am ready to support anything additional you guys come up with. 4
Picchio Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 I guess I value my privacy more than you do. I read piracy at first and I giggled. If you wrote it like that you would have been 100% confirmed super fun to hang out with. But you didn't...

Some of you folks must be a lot fun to hang out with. LOL, yes, unfortunately this has been the normal on flightsim forums for ages. I, for one, am very happy to see the team making upgrade to DX11. 3
Voidhunger Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 Thanks fo the news Jason and the team. Looking forward to dx11.
Boomerang Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Looking forward to everything, and the future of this series
Livai Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 I, for one, am very happy to see the team making upgrade to DX11. DX11.2 seems to be the latest DX11 Version patch available maybe DX11.0 and DX11.1 had some crazy bugs before where another patch was needed to have a bug-free DX11. Glad that the team looking into this and choose the latest DX11 Version patch. This latest DX11 Version patch will make the difference to have a DX11 even more epic!

Brano Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 While we all wait for next sequel and Dx whatever, they could release an extra DLC doublepack of I-153+IAR80/81. I need some new toys to stay focused.Otherwise I will drink myself to death
Zettman Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 I would prefer P-39 + IAR-80/81. The IAR-80/81 would add some more varity to the axis fighter collection. But I guess we might see the P39 with a Kursk expansion. Zettman
Brano Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 I-153 for BoM IAR-80/81 for BoS Both for upcoming Odessa map 2

216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 You mean Hs-123? I can't see how that flimsy recon Hs-126 stands a chance
