Otherwise they would have given it a differently shaped nose I think Polikarpov invented a special paint, when he designed the I-15, which made the surface of the airframe completely frictionless. There were issues however, when pilots tried to climb into the cockpit, and belly landings were strongly discouraged Edited May 28, 2015 by Finkeren
