Yakdriver Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 But then again, the "Aussies" themselves are an awesome bunch of sons-o-guns

Tyberan Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 Your not allowed to post porn here dude. Also i think that photo broke my PC from its pure epicness 4
BlitzPig_EL Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 Stack fire from over priming the engine no doubt. And yes, an awesome photo.
FlatSpinMan Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 Vex - whta name did you skin under in the old IL2? Those P40 schemes are great. I almost definitely had them,
Vex Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 (edited) |450|Vex, i'm sure they still around for download somewhere, but i had a catastrophic HDD crash and lost 5 years worth of skinning material. I was working on a couple of VVS P-40 when i lost it. All my research photos where on it too. My P-40 template was created by Leadspitter, but was a massive hodgepodge from bits of templates from all the great skinners of the day. But i re-did a fair bit of it. Edited March 20, 2015 by Vex

ShamrockOneFive Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 OH NICE! I've been looking for photos of that field.
Georgio Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 A great panoramic look at the P-40E cockpit on display at the National Museum of the US Air Force: http://www.nmusafvirtualtour.com/media/020/P-40E%20Cockpit.html That is a great resource; you could almost model the entire cockpit from that image
Georgio Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 I liked shark's teeth on my mount as much as the next seven-year-old, but I knew what a real fighter looked like. And it looked like this: Always has and always will. [Although, by the time I was eight and a half, no fighter was a fighter without ellipsoid wings, but that's a different story... ](Sorry to derail the thread - but truth will out!) Only time I saw a Starfighter was at Biggin Hill and as an entré it flew down the middle of the runway a max speed then pulled vertical and disappeared into the blue sky. I was about 10 and never forgot that and the Lightnings washing us kids over with the afterburner as we stood at the end of the runway. No such thing as health and safety in those days...

Yeeeeha! nice..i guess in the other sim, they can actually be used as fighters, due to less potent enemies
heinkill Posted March 30, 2015 Author Posted March 30, 2015 (edited) OK, speaking of GOLD Just remembered that some years ago I grabbed a download of the A2A Accusim (FSX) Wings of Power P-40 which came with a fantastic manual!!!! Knowing that creating good manuals is not top of mind for our 1CGS mates, I hope that A2A doesn't mind if I link to their P40 manual here: it is brilliant and I am sure a lot can be applied to any P-40. https://www.simshack.net/media/files/WOP3_P-40_Manual.pdf For example: Takeoff (Exact duplication of flight) • Open your canopy to taxi and turn on your lights and taxi into position. As the P-40 has no wild inclination to veer left still a little right rudder should be applied. • Make sure your attitude gyro is uncaged (the knob is on the panel high right next to the attitude indicator gauge). Check your Prestone warning by toggling the warning test switch on the lower left side of your cockpit panel. • Set your mixture to AUTO RICH. • Set pitot (left side cockpit on lights panel) and check your engine oil pressure, oil temp, coolant temp, and vacuum. If engine is running too warm from a long idle open up your cowl flaps (right side of cockpit) to ¾. • Ease your throttle to no more than 41 inches of Mercury as shown on the Manifold Pressure Gauge, you may have to apply a little brake until the tail gets sufficient airflow to the rudder. • Set your elevator trim tabs for take-off and rotate at 110 mph. • Raise you landing gear and ease off the flaps as you get a positive climb and wheels are securely in the wheel well. • As you climb, set your throttle back to 35 inches of mercury showing on your Manifold Pressure Gauge. Your best climb rate to 16,000 is at 150-160 mph at 35 inches MP or 2600 rpm. • Ease your mixture to between auto rich and auto lean at 5000 ft AGL. Set your trim to approx 5.8º or 43 to 45%. This should allow you to climb at 2100 ft/ min at 140 mph. At 10,000 feet set your mixture to 35% for best climb and maintain 2600 rpm and 35 inches of MP. Turn on your oxygen flow and don your mask. Cruising at 14,000-16,000 • For high speed cruise, set to 2600 rpm, manifold pressure at 35 in. • For normal cruising the prop revolutions should be set to 2280 rpms with manifold pressure at 27.9, mixture set to auto rich. • Economy, set prop to 2190 rpm, manifold at 25.2 inches, switch the propeller control from AUTO to MANUAL and ease off the mixture until you see a drop of 40-50 rpms, then switch propeller control back to AUTO. Cheers, H Edited March 30, 2015 by heinkill
Falco_Peregrinus Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 Time to reach the altitude of 3000 m was approximately 4 minutes and 26 seconds and to 6000 meters it was 11 minutes and 49 seconds. time to 3000 meters was 6 minutes and 12 seconds, time to 6000 meters was 14 minutes and 12 seconds. 11 to 14 minutes to reach 6.000 meters?
=362nd_FS=Hiromachi Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 11 to 14 minutes to reach 6.000 meters? You, didn't know that ? According to RAAF documentation time to 10,000 feet was 6.2 minutes and to 20,000 feet (6000 meters) was 14.2 minutes. The best rate of climb was 1640 ft/min. And there was a model with a Hydulignum bladed propeller, which made it even worse - P-40 reached 10,000 feet in 7.9 minutes and 20,000 feet in 17.25 minutes. There are bombers which climb better ...

heinkill Posted April 13, 2015 Author Posted April 13, 2015 It's all very well and good with these summer maps...but we need real summer...with saaaaaand!
=LD=Hethwill Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Would love to see late african campaign with Tunisia as opposed to Libya push-back-and-forth wrestling contest. Simply because the USAAF and Navy plane options P-40 is enough but is it enough enough for the sand devils ...or... p-38?
GP* Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Well, I haven't played BOS in about 4 months now, but I'll probably buy BOM just for the P-40 and its .50 cals.

Finkeren Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 (edited) 11 to 14 minutes to reach 6.000 meters? Yep! Makes the LaGG-3 look pretty decent, doesn't it? I look forward to the P-40, the people expecting an über machine of superior 'Murrican manufacture are propably going to be disappointed. What you'll get is a pretty sturdy mount for a ****load of guns with decent maneuverability but overall performance in the tank. Edited April 18, 2015 by Finkeren
ShamrockOneFive Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 Yep! That just makes me love the P-40 that much more It's a very fast flying brick with wings. Tough, dives fast, hits hard... climbing is another issue. Bring it on!
BlitzPig_EL Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 (edited) It is fast at medium and low levels, and is maneuverable. It's bad rap for maneuverability comes from it's performance against Ki 43s and A6Ms when they were poorly employed tactically against those Japanese types. I do have concerns about it's ability in the dive in this game engine, as dive speeds and acceleration in the dive seem to be a weak area in all the aircraft FMs. I don't think the advantages in the dive regime will be apparent as all the aircraft in BoS dive too fast (especially the VVS birds). So I don't think this very important aspect of the P40 will stand out as it should. As I have said before, the P40, when flown to it's strengths, will be a very good aircraft. If it is capable of loading bombs it will excel at high speed hit and run interdiction raids. As an aside about the Bf 110, I wonder if it will come off as it did in the real conflict? In games it always has seemed "too good" compared to it's dismal record in the Battle of Britain, and other areas, when challenged by real fighters. Much of this can be blamed on the sniper AI rear gunners that seem to be a fixture in all air combat sims. Time will tell I guess. Edited April 18, 2015 by BlitzPig_EL
Venturi Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 It SHOULD be able to outmaneuver a bf109 in the horizontal and in the dive given equal energy.
javelina Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Well, I haven't played BOS in about 4 months now, but I'll probably buy BOM just for the P-40 and its .50 cals. "Let me hear your Guns!!!"
heinkill Posted April 21, 2015 Author Posted April 21, 2015 (edited) "Let me hear your Guns!!!" Great vid! Belushi was a wild man. @Prefontaine... You dont need to buy BoM to fly the P40. You can get it as a premium plane to fly in BoS quick missions. H Edited April 21, 2015 by heinkill
Cybermat47 Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 With the P-40 turning up in CloD and BoM this year, then maybe we should call 2015 'The Year of the P-40'
Finkeren Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 With the P-40 turning up in CloD and BoM this year, then maybe we should call 2015 'The Year of the P-40' Incedently, this year is also the year of the Goat in the Chinese Zodiac. The goat is usually considered calm, peace-loving, kind and careful. It is also heavily bound to the earthen element, meaning the P-40 would propably do better just staying peacefully on the ground
BlitzPig_EL Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 Don't forget the all new 3D models for the Hawk 81s in IL2/46 as well.

planesyplanesy Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 To shoot em down Hmmmm make sure you don't tangle with one at low altitude. You may well come unstuck!! Speaking of 50 cal. Wow!
Farky Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 (edited) does anyone know if russians increased the supercharger boost like some of the american/british squadrons did? Actually, they did not increase the Manifold pressure (MAP aka boost) of the P-40E engine (Allison V-1710-39), it was not necessary at all. Each V-1710-39 was able to produce up to 72 inHgA of MAP at Sea Level without any modifications, including engines of soviet P-40E's. This is because the P-40E airplane had no automatic manifold pressure regulator ("automatic boost control"), so pilot simply could just ignore the engine limits prescribed by the manual and push the throttle lever more forward. It is known that V-1710-39 withstand without any problems much higher MAP then permitted by manual, also engine limits were increased in time. Very important notes - "overboost" is obviously a risk and whole thing is much more complicated. Personally, i am very curious how "overboost" and P-40E's engine control will appear in the BoM.
