All this server I marked in red don't allow custom skins (and locked loadouts for everyone other than premium accounts) :

 I don't think I'll bother visiting them again. The "ranked server" thing is nothing but enforcing the offline grind system, on the online players.

Jaws where as you certainly have the right, as any one here does, to fly which ever server you want to (or not), hopefully the near future will bring us the capabilities to use custom skins in servers freely. But with that said, I would hope that everyone would understand that those of use who strive to provide near historical formats on our servers, are not to keen on such as My Pony or Spung Bob type skins. You get the idea. In a way what would be innovative is if one of you talented pilots would write a script or program that would allow anyone, on their computer ONLY, use what ever skin they desired. The rest of us wouldn't be horrified by such outlandish paints then.

 

Just my thoughts.

Thats because 'ranked' servers aren't allowed to view custom skins.

One thing is for sure, this team is very innovative how to alienate everybody but the most ardour fans.

It is indeed a great decision by the devs. It shows they listen and are concerned. It also shows that being vocal on the forums works. Hopefully, in the future, when somebody brings their concerns to the forums they won't be attacked by their fellow pilots. It shows there is room for debate and not the back and forth bickering that has been going on over the unlocks

Check my previous posts, I've been as critical as any of the dev decisions regarding unlocks, but this seems to make sense to me.

Good news about the maps. I personally had fun winning the unlocks so no bother. I think the solution arrived at is a good one. It gives players the option and the choice of winning upgrades in the game as well as paying to upgrade.

Have to wonder though why be so stubborn hanging on to the unlocks while most of the community cried for their removal? Someone needed some heavy duty convincing to let go of their vision despite the feedback they got was.

Go back and play something from 1996 if you cant appreciate how far video games have come and how much time and effort goes into them these days. Its bananas.

 

Im a terrible pilot and unlocked 4 entire planes in no time and had fun doing it.

 

They arent asking for your first born son in money and you dont have to spend days and days grinding. If youre any good you can get an entire plane done in a couple of hours and be honest, most people fly the same one or two preferred aircraft 90% of the time anyway and if thats not enough, if you really are too much of a mess of a human being to PLAY THE GAME you paid for to unlock virtual colors om a plane - you need professional help if this bothers you anything beyond a minor annoyance at most.

 

The amount of whining and bellyaching about trivial issues I've seen on this forum in a short month is staggering and I applaud the dev team for not losing their minds at some of you ungrateful babies to be honest.

     Chief, that's not how the skins work in game. What you said above, may be true in ROF, if spongebob's skin was approved into one of the packs officially released.

In BOS, if you want to use a skin, online in nonranked servers, or to even see it, you have to manually download it and install it in your skins folder. Only those who downloaded and installed the sponge bob skin, in their folder, will see it in game on other planes.

    So your fear, that, if you allow skins in the server, the servers will fill with nonhistorical skins is baseless.

You'll never see skins you didn't download and install yourself online. That's how it works.

The "whining and bellyaching" just made this game a little better for a lot of people. Some folk don't want to play single player. The decision the devs have made is because of the vocal majority not minority. It was a bad design on many levels. You like the unlocks good for you, you can still grind away. Some folk don't and now they don't need to play the game in a way that they didn't want to

Well obviously being a relatively new member, you have missed how unpopular and how much push back they got from customers, on their implementation of the unlock system. It has been a major source of contention on these forums for quite some time. Many walked away.

 

It is nice to see the developers responding to that issue at least, which I take as a good sign. I am especially glad for the MP guys, that now can elect to just go fly MP rather than worry about needing to grind away for unlocks.

I feel the unlock choice is a very reasonable solution. That some still whine saddens but does not surprise. There could have been a MORE unpopular outcome, a more COSTLY outcome or NO flippin' outcome at all.

Very good news!  The unlocks is a plus for the Premium buyers and the unlock-able skins in the campaign gives SP players a reward as well.  Nice solution.

 

Very encouraging to hear that new maps are planned and the FME is not too far away.  Gives me hope the project will not founder under the barrage of unwarranted criticism.

That would only make sense if the skins would be free to use online, but they are not.

 

This is not a nice solution, this is just the path to grind/transaction bs that's that you see in MMOG. They made sure everyone is tide up in the grid, no matter how much they paid for the game, or how many years before the release they paid.

This is really great news all around.  I also wish all the skins were unlocked, as I don't have a ton of time to fly; but at least the other stuff is unlocked now.

I think the sensible thing they should have done is give unlocks to everyone who has bought the game up till now. But make it clear that after monday/next week only the premium version would have unlocks.

 

As it stands it reads as holding back unlocks unless you fork over the extra cash. That is fine if people know it going in, but to change things and leave some out is unfair.

 

I think the sensible thing to do in light of all this is to have a sale. Just like the Christmas sale.

 

I bet more folks would buy a Premium or upgrade their hangar to get rid of the unlocks with a sale in light of the other news of maps, coming FME etc...  than if there was no sale. Without a sale some of the bitterness will still be more raw..(Let's face it.. this is a flightsim community and someone will always be bent about something..) after that most new buyers will most likely opt for the Premium install to not grind anyway.. so do a flash sale... and make a bunch of folks happier than they are now.. in addition to the folks they already made happier than they were yesterday... and get a bump in sales.

Oh no doubt... but having a sale now would be a better move than not regardless. It would give those people on the fence all along a greater incentive to buy Premium now knowing that all they will have to unlock are skins... It will give those Standard buyers... the ones who bought either no new aircraft or one new aircraft a way to lessen the monetary burden to get the unlocks removed ... $10-$20 is IMO a small price to pay for the unlocks and additional content to boot.
