Custom Personal skins for MP

Nice one!

But say, my ability in deciphering cyrillic is a little ...rusty *cough*. What does the text on the port fuselage say? The one that ends on "For [...] Stalin"?

It supposed to say: port side says "Fascist pigs, dead or alive, you are leaving my Russia LONG LIVE STALIN" and on the Starboard side it says "Hello from Russia"

do not ever use google translator for making skins :) Ask for help to russian virtual pilots. Your left side should be "Фашистские свиньи//убирайтесь вон живыми или мертвыми!//Да здравствует великий Сталин!" And word "Россия" in soviet times was used very rarely, most commonly used abbreviation "СССР" or "С.С.С.Р." - at all earlier years after revolution and almost all Stalin's period, post war period). Better use some other typical phrases like "Сталинский сокол" etc.

If you put your skin out, then you might run the risk of others downloading them and changing it to what they want on their hard drive.  . . . .  I download your skin, keep the same file name, paint it bright orange.  There you are flying over white snow with my bright orange paint job.    Something to think about.

Not if the id for the skin was the MD5 or SHA1 sum of the file.

Just a bit more faffing about with BOS templates and colours and markings this F4 is very loosely and I do mean loosely based on Gallands 109 E4 during the Battle of Britain, I have removed the swastikas out of respect to other countries.

Updated my BOB F4 skins with better yellow nose and I added a wingman or "number 2", please don't forget these are "fictional" skins based on 109 E4's from the BOB. Swastikas have been edited out for political correctness.

This the place for "fictional" skins. Any chance to upload them without a number - or as 4 skins with Nos. 1/2/3/ & 4 ?

G6-esque WIP. Spent way too many hours getting that spinner to work. Unfortunately the resolution of the skin is to low to actually make it defined, but hey, fairly pleased with it nonetheless.

Thanks, dude!

Quote >Watto<: "Ah, nice ship... Nubian. Not baaad!" ;)

I'm working on it m8; but some other Skin Jedi around here might have already done the trick...

I doubt it because we can't edit the alpha and normal maps directly. For example when I skinned in War Thunder, the color 'orange' made anything chrome depending on the saturation and opacity of that color used. So getting metallic silver here is going to be tough until we can edit those properties of the templates.

Deleted my La-5 personal skin for re-work.

What comes to mind is the workaround of creating highlighted areas, such as in the old Il-2:

I don't play much MP, but one of my New Year's resolutions is to do more MP in both RoF and BoS.  When I do in BoS I'm usually flying my trusty Stuka, but I decided I'll probably want to branch out so I went ahead and created a whole set of German skins.  So, for all those players flying VVS planes and looking for an easy kill, I thought I'd make my personal German skin available so they can see who they're shooting down  :)

I've included both a summer/fall set (for when we get our first non-winter map one of these days), and a winter set of skins.  The latter are basically just a simple white overspray of my standard summer/fall paint scheme, which itself is an evolution of my personal color scheme for my German planes in RoF.  My fictional BoS squadron, TG-55, is one of the few Kriegsmarine naval aviation units still operational by late 1942, and traces its lineage from my fictional RoF squadron, which began as Marine Feldflieger Abteilung 55 and saw service in WWI.  Thus its standard (non-winter) paint scheme is based on a naval light gray/dark gray camo pattern, with gold trim and tail markings carried over from the paint schemes the unit used during WWI.

Originally assigned to conduct anti-shipping operations in the Black Sea along with one of the other remaining Küstenfliegergruppe, TG-55 was pressed into service in the skies over Stalingrad to attack shipping in the river Volga and other targets of opportunity.

Screenshots below depict each German plane type in both summer/fall and winter schemes:

The entire package of skins is available here (in a JSGME-ready package, which can be unzipped into your MODS folder and activated/deactivated with JSGME - alternatively, you can just copy the data folder into your main BoS folder, but I would recommend using JSGME if you have sufficient HDD space):

BTW - while working on the rest of the package I decided to tweak my original design for the Stuka to make it conform more closely to the unit's marking scheme in RoF, so these are updated versions of the Stuka design I originally posted above (I've deleted the old post to avoid confusion).

Salute, fellow Pilots.

I've made up some racing skins (again), this time for the 190.

Not as elegantly and sleek as the ones for the 109, more angular and straight, but fitting for the 190's design:

Thank you, you have no idea how long that took me. :D Luckily I now have a .psd template for spinners, so I won't have to go through that rigmarole every time I make a new skin. Euphoric m8.

2nd: Fw-190 in a fictious camo scheme of RLM21 white and RLM75 grey. Pattern is adapted to cover the sides.

To add some color and let the boys know who's in the hood, there's some yellow and black checkered cowling, similar to one of the in-game skins:

Something has gone horribly wrong with my BoS installation since the last update, and it's currently unplayable for me ATM (my TrackIR is jumping all over the place and I'm getting troubling stutter/freezes periodically).

But, the upside is that since I couldn't fly I had some extra time to spend working on skins, so I have gone ahead and created a complete set of skins for all the Russian plane types to go along with my German set posted above.  In the process of creating the rest of my personal Russian skins I wound up changing the back story of my fictional Russian squadron, which led to a change in my basic camo scheme. My earlier IL-2 skins (the only Russian ones I had done previously) had to be changed, so I deleted my previous IL-2 skin post above and the new version of the IL-2 skins is included in this pack.

This set represents the planes of my (fictional) Russian Naval Aviation unit, the 55th Guards Mixed Air Division (55th VVS VMF, sometimes referred to as GVMF-55), in a summer set with their standard summer gray-blue/gray-green naval camo scheme and a winter set (basically just whitewash over their standard summer scheme).  GVMF-55 was originally tasked with anti-shipping operations against German naval assets and protection of Russian shipping, first in the Baltic and then in the Black Sea, but as the battle for Stalingrad intensified the unit was pressed into action on the Don Front.

If you are part of a squadron or have a personal skin that you want to use online, post links to that skin here.

In order for personal skins to show up you will need to have that skin on your HD. This thread is where pilots can upload their personal skins so that once the Dserver and ME are released all folks will have to do is come here and DL a pilot's skin for it to show up on the server. This will most likely be a one time thing unless something about the skin changes. This is sort of like having to add skins to the cache (ala IL2)  manually.

Hello Bearcat.

I am a little confused so sorry for a dumb question. My squad Tangmere Pilots normally have a customised skin each, mine typically had J-XJ in CloD. If I understand correctly we could now create a whole set of skins and copy to each pilots hard drive and they could be seen by all squad mates on a coop night or DF  provided it is not a ranked server. The skins get saved to the skins folder. We are palnning on using JG3 so we could make a whole set for that outfit as a historical set.

I don't think the Dserver needs to worry about the skin as I can't see a way to identify the skin in the sds set up abart from no locked skins.

Then in the FME you have the possibility to specify a custom skin.

I think writing this is clearing my mind as it will make us very happy to see our dedicated skins in the mission.
