I agree, nice place to fly.

Yes, but yesterday the first pilot that killed me was one 109G2, the problem is that I was flying with other BF109G2 (and on our base 4 or 6 YAKS and Il2 sturmovick...in Spain we say "para mear y no echar gota"), and the mission was like one crazy doghfight server. (no bad, but I prefer other missions in MP). Probably I will finish to play at this sim in MP servers till devs give us the dserver and we have users administrating the MP servers.
I know that we have a lot of new users in this simulator, without experience, but I'm not his "sparring partner"

Zulu,

Try deleting the .msnbin file for the tracks that don't work. That might allow them to work again.

Jason

Thanks for the response Jason, I tried your suggestion on 4 of my tracks that gave me the error messages and none of them worked :((

Do you perhaps know why this would happen, its baffling... ?

So friday and no patch?

Any official word on it?

Updates are now released mid week to allow devs to better manage any changes.

Yes, patches now will come during the week... that's why it's so dead in here.

Guys, Next update will be probably middle of next week. No diary today. They will be more infrequent after release. I believe Loft stated that in a previous diary. Sorry if any confusion. Jason

I have to admit I start to think that the La5 is not a tad better than the Lagg3 in competition with axis fighters.

It's only advantage is its theoretical top speed that is imho not really usable in a dogfight and neither in escape after a dogfight because it takes far too long to build it up (no measurable acceleration) after having spend some speed in a dogfight (inevitably so). So basically its speed advantage is only useful in air races that don't require any sort of manoeuvre that ressembles turning.

It COULD have the additional advantage of gun power but due to the extremely low fire rate this could-be advantage is entirely annihilated.

And it does not roll noticeably faster than the Lagg if some would like to sport this feature in favour of the La5.

At the same time the La5 is gifted with a lot of drawbacks:

- VERY bad turning capability. It might be slightly better than the 190 in it but it also drops your energy status by a mile so that you end up being a sitting duck.

- It has an extremely fragile engine. Offline it is set on fire on avarage every second mission I fly (and I mean every second mission I fly - NOT every second time I am hit). If it doesn't catch fire it is damaged and ends up freezing soon with only one bullet. Imho the most fragile engine modelled in game in terms of hits taken.

- No precision aiming possible. Imho probably the worst shooter ingame - because of the ill-suited gunsight, because of its desperately low fire rate and because the plane is not a stable shooting platform.

My conclusion is that probably the Lagg3 is summa summarum even the better plane because it does not provide its pilot with the illusion that one could escape with superior speed while it is a far more stable shooting platform and has much more endurance.

I have recenlty unlocked everything in the G2 and now want to finish the La5. I usually do escort missions on expert mode. While it was comparatively a piece of cake in the G2 (rarely I got shot down while I shot loads of enemies myself) I am now shot down in a La5 basically on every mission. I guess I have to switch the mission type because obviously the La5 is ill-suited for dogfight heavy mission types. Considering that I judge the difficulty for the La5 higher than that of the 109 I don't understand why I need to score as much or even a tad more for all La 5 unlocks than for the G2 unlocks.

What may help with the campaigns fighters is: Flying the slower planes first, (at the beginning). As you level up the Ai becomes much more challenging, (which is very good).

The La-5 and Lagg-3, I chose for the intercept bommer missions, and the Yak for Escort. These where always flown after the German planes. Looking back,  I felt this decision I made was a little back to front, (in regards to leveling up), as I should have started the other way around, for E.G: flying the German planes last. Anyway, it was all good, in regards to the challenge. I found the Butcher Bird was very effective on the deck! :salute:

I never thought I would hear the words 'levelling up' in an IL2 flight sim...

It's a good server with good veterans from Il2 1946, with good rules when they fly. They fight with respect, not vulching, not shoulder shooting, clean close combat, and help me if you can, and don't flight over enemy bases (AAA help us to not to do that). It's easy to play with pleasure with easy rules.
When server administration will possible, will be better  ;)

...And this is why I take everything I read on internet with a grain of salt ;)

Our squadron play mostly on the Syndicate server, and there is a lot of vulching and people just loiting over air-bases instead of doing their objectives.

The main problem I think is the gps icons. If they remove that I think people would loiter more around the objectives to try and spot enemy planes.
