AuroraJutilainen Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 -------- BoS doesn't know what it wants to be. It has neither the amount of content of War Thunder, nor the system fidelity of DCS nor the scale of Cliffs of Dover nor the campaign of Rise of Flight. What we have is an uninspired successor to the Il-2 franchise. I know 777 worked hard on this... but it's a darn crying shame they had to dictate the way people want to play their game. LOFT often spoke about how "hardcore simmers are the death of flight sims". He may be right: we're not lucrative like the first-person-shooter crowd is. I'm just saying... But if they are in the flight sim business to make insane amounts of money, maybe they should be doing something else. I wish I could upvote this more than once
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 (edited) @Trupobaw The problem with not playing it now is it will artificially skew reports from the front as it were, prior to release. If everyone who hates it now are not playing and attempting to make/suggest changes it will all seem pretty rosy at release. I'm not saying changes are required but dissenting voices would go quiet if they followed your advice. Edited October 9, 2014 by HerrMurf
KodiakJac Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 (edited) Change log for an update on October 8th: - GUI won't minimize randomly anymore - Incorrect markers for bombs and rockets fixed - Aim helper mark for rockets is only shown on the ground and disappears if the ground is too far away - Too frequent night missions fixed - Bomb raids, Interceptor missions, Convoy missions are now starting on various altitudes - Similar machine guns and cannons are now gathered into one block on the GUI speed bar - A mission would now end automatically if a player goes for an emergency landing or successfully bails out - In interceptor missions enemy is now more aggressive - Autopilot is back in Normal mode - In campaign and in QMB a warning will be shown if you shoot friendlies (later we'll add XP penalty) - Bf 109 G-2 max speed is now tuned properly according to the reference with tail wheel retracted (speed increased for 10-12km/h) - Hitting enemy plane's bomb hatches and gears can now break them off. - Horizon Autopilot tuned correctly: excessive wobbling removed, turning around on high altitudes improved - Some IL-2 and La-5 skins descriptions fixed - Order to pass command to a wingman removed - A player can now pass checkpoints on a heavily damaged plane - Player's wingmen cannot switch checkpoints - Fancy phrases about sky were removed from campaign briefing - Kotelnikovo airfield location fixed - Intercept Bombers mission now has alied AAA shoting at the enemy Thank you, 1CGS! This is a huge benefit to SP Campaign game play I love watching my plane land or take off sometimes, and its great to use for long climb outs with bombers. Its just great to be able to go to external view and enjoy the view while my plane carries on. Edited October 9, 2014 by Bucksnort
unreasonable Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Dissent now seems unlikely to change the fundamental design decisions. What still needs to be done is to polish the detailed execution of the overall design. I feel particularly for Chuck and AbortedMan because they put so much of their own time into helping the community and the average player (eg, me), they feel misled, and I share many of their reservations about the design decisions. I do think, however, that now all we can reasonably do is either sit it out and see if what comes out post release is acceptable for our particular tastes, or contribute specific points that help 1C to polish the product within its given design limitations. If an outlet for further dissent is needed, perhaps we should have a specific thread for it, or perhaps we should agree that the developer diaries threads is the best place for it. What I am getting heartily sick of though is every single thread that people start to make specific proposals to incrementally polish the design gets taken over by people making the same dissent over and over again.
Krause Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 I only hope that 1C will release the game without the always connected drm so I can finally play the game without internet connection.. 2
Chuck_Owl Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 I only hope that 1C will release the game without the always connected drm so I can finally play the game without internet connection.. Not gonna happen. They said it multiple times.
Urra Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 (edited) Apologies to whomever asked this question already, but there are too many threads and I can no longer find the original comment - Has anyone opened all sections or unlocked every option? What is one supposed to do once he or she has gone through the minimum steps of this entire campaign and reached its end? It seems like progress is rather quick from various folks. Then what? ...If that the individual may be not be in to MP will they be inclined to un-installing it after 20 hours? Or...Is the next stop supposed to be the QMB? unreasonable Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 I only hope that 1C will release the game without the always connected drm so I can finally play the game without internet connection.. The SP campaign missions are generated server side not on your PC, the always on requirement is not DRM (or at least not only DRM). I believe the QMB and scripted missions/campaigns, should they get built later on, can be played offline as is the case in RoF. 1

Expansions, possibly the ability to download missions from other sources (Steam/forums) when the mission builder is out. Personally I spend all of my time in RoF on the mission builder making missions for my buddies and I to fly. Then of course there is multiplayer. Find a good server which runs good missions with good pilots and you'll enjoy it even more. 2
jaydee Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Too good for my own good? Err... Not quite. With Eagle's Nest down and SP being a grind that I do not have fun doing nor the time to do... I think I'm better off uninstalling my game. I expected better from 777, seriously. I had high hopes for this game, I really did. I followed it, supported it and promoted it just like I did with DCS WWII from the very beginning. But obviously, this game is not for me. I don't have the patience to spend 20+ hours to "unlock" skins and mods against AI fighters. I play flight sims for the social experience it provides. You get to meet new, interesting people and make friends with the people you fly with and the people you fly against. That's why I don't fly alone; I don't see the point. For me, it's just not fun. BoS doesn't know what it wants to be. It has neither the amount of content of War Thunder, nor the system fidelity of DCS nor the scale of Cliffs of Dover nor the campaign of Rise of Flight. I know your passion for improving the simming experience for all to enjoy. Here is how I look at It. The "Core" of BOS is there to be felt by any Simmer who tries BOS in expert mode.We all got a taste of where BOS can go in Eagles-Nest Server as well as QMB. I think we have gone through a Stormy week that have shown the Devs, that opinions can be Strong and Vocal. Already there has been some "adjustments". Its the People (like You,Feathered,Aborted etc) that Contribute and ADD to the core of the Sim to change it froma SIM to a "World to Sim IN". Think of another Sim was dragged from the Ashes by Talented and Passionate People. I think BOS can be a good Sim and a good game. It may need Talented and Passionate People to add their Creativity. I am going to hang around and see what pans out. I hope you do too! ~S~jay 1

Or...Is the next stop supposed to be the QMB? I guess if that's your only interest in the campaign then yeah, you're probably down to QMB. The campaign design seems to be much more sandbox than that though. I view it as both a strength of weakness of the design. A strength becasue it could allow for limitless play depending on the player, a weakness because it's arguably little more than a framework for QMB. My assessment might be off because I've not delved very far into it yet.
JG4_Widukind Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Dunno about 109 G-2 speed increase with new update but im sure that throttle is still buged in G-2. It should be really simple fix and we still don't get it.Thanks for remember!Agree.

Now always i run launcher i recibed same error Failed to update. What can i do ? its my fault ? launcher corrupted? server out??? thx Everytime when you get this error "Failed to update" do this Delete all files that are inside the updates folder (1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\updates) or if you can not delete this files create a new folder there where you put all this files inside that you found there. After that start the Launcher and the download begins

HR_Tumu Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Thx friends. novicebutdeadly , i delete game and reinstall whit the last big update . But i think tuesday have another patch ( near 1GB) and yesterday starts and fail download another patch . Superghostboy thx for help . I will try. thx.
Brano Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 What do you want to organize? We miss offline Campaign and few other features + FM tweaks and updates.Otherwise it is complete as it is.Planes are flying, propellers are turning, guns are firing and wind is blowing.

If all else fails, and you have enough internet (you won't go over your monthly allowance), you might have to do a full uninstall (prob run disk defrag as well), re-start and then re-install, it'll be a pain but should sort out the issue 100%
BigDally Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 (edited) I just played with the last patch of today. I have got two times a system crash. The image just disappears and I am back on desktop with a small window saying that Il2 has closed due to a problem. These crashes happened with escort missions were I fly a Yak against Messerschmitt BF102 and were the bombers (PE-2) after successfull bombing run have left the exit point and I am in the middle of a long dogfight. Both crashes with a similar configuration and I am in Uranus phase of the Campaign. Windows is 8.1 and graphic board is Nvidia Titan Black with drivers 344.11 and Hotas is Saitek Pro Flight X55-Rhino. Motherboard is a Asus Rampage IV Extreme, and CPU intel i7 4960X, all with fast 32GB Ram. I too had my first "Crash to Desktop" after last night's patch. It happened on an escort mission with PE-2s and me flying a Yak-1 as well. On the way back to base we came across a conflict of 109s, HE-111s, and Yak1s and proceeded to engage...then BOOM, CtD. HR_Tumu Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 OK, problem solved. I folow superghostboy instructions. Thx all, for your time and answers.

6./ZG26_5tuka Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Yes also continues crashes for me flying the IL-2 everytime I land and close mission or bail out of it in campaign.
Trooper117 Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Just happened to me in the Yak! Are they messing with the server again?
BigDally Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/11433-game-crashes-frequently/ Thanks for linking threads. Devs are gonna fix it.
Trooper117 Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 I've just had another CTD with a Yak.. so it's not aircraft specific. Thanks for the link... can't play this at all at the moment until they get the problem fixed!
BigDally Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 The Devs have been great about rolling out fixes, so my guess is this will get fixed rather quickly.
LLv24_Zami Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 I had just a CTD after bf-109f4 full escort mission. I landed and taxied to parking place, then CTD
IckyATLAS Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 I remember the good old times where we had BSOD. Now we have CTD, for sure there is a big improvement over time , at least the PC still can continue doing other useful tasks.

Densetsu Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 ... Wait, did they just alienate their entire hardcore playerbase? What.

1CGS LukeFF Posted October 9, 2014 1CGS Posted October 9, 2014 ... Wait, did they just alienate their entire hardcore playerbase? What. Nope, I'm doing just fine here.
Rjel Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 I'm not. So now we'll have 20 pages of I am I'm not. This sim isn't perfection. There is value in it if people will look a little deeper. It isn't finished yet.
FZG_Merlin Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 (edited) Nope, I'm doing just fine here. maybe the answer is in the post you answered to. Individuals are all different. point taken. the 'trend' is somethhing else. Edited October 9, 2014 by FZG_Immel
LastRightsXIII Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 This sim isn't perfection. There is value in it if people will look a little deeper. It isn't finished yet. And that's the truth....I'm still here (kinda). Like to stick around longer. We'll see.
CIA_Yankee_ Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 ... Wait, did they just alienate their entire hardcore playerbase? What. No. But they did make decisions which angered a significant fraction of that. I would imagine they are banking on things improving later on as their design evolves and everything comes into place. We'll just have to wait and see. Personally I'm loving the simulation itself, and hoping things get better later (particularly as 3rd party mods kick in).
