Developer Diary, Part 80

I'm sure it will be closed beta to select dev's who've proven to release good content. My guess is same time frame as the DK2 release with even more backlog on pre orders shipping sometime in August. DK2 owners will surely get nearly a year out of theirs before it becomes obsolete.

Eh what ? FullHD standard LCD monitor is not enough for competitive dogfights ? or it's only not enough in OR?

I read an account by an Elite player (maybe on this forum? don't remember) who used DK2, he had problems reading the text in the Elite UI.

Kwiatek, on 26 Sept 2014 - 18:08, said: What about flight model changes expecially Fw 190 poor climb rate, acceleration, negative pitch flick roll etc?? What about roll rates correction in rest planes like LAgg3 and LA5? What about maximum safe dive speeds? About gears and flaps damages at high speeds?
Nothing changed this time, just FYI.

Is it mean that Your team is working on it and we could expect such fixes/improvements  later on?

reading text in ED isn't a problem if you have normal vision.

Some may have noticed that it’s been a few days since we’ve finally received a new Oculus RIft. It’s more than the freshest version of the device - it is the public version, just like the one you can buy officially. The gadget is finally capable of headtracking, like TrackIR or others. So there’s a rather small task that remains to be completed - the final compatibility check. We’re now sure that Battle of Stalingrad will be released with complete compatibility with Oculus RIft VR.

Is the public version really available now ??  I just visited their site (  http://www.oculus.com/dk2/ ) and could only find the Developement Kit 2 DK2 there. Is this the public version or is that in the offing still. If so I know what to ask for from Santa! ;)

Typically you can't zoom-in in VR.

I could zoom in with my OR DK1 in Warthunder.

Translated from the Russian side, from Loft:

Valdamar: I take this opportunity once again ask Almost most important friend Loft - when you can start to stick to steer for the T-34? smile.gif

Loft: By February, the most optimistic. Cabins also need gameplay, etc.

Hmmm....

Hi there

/Oculus army here. The public version (referred to as CV1) does not yet have a release date. The current version is the second Developer Kit, or DK2, which is theoretically meant to be for developers to get a start on developing for the Oculus CV1. About 75% of those who bought DK2 though are 'enthusiasts', like myself, who just get a kick out of the tech. The current latest version is 'Crystal Cove', which addresses a number of issues with the DK2 such as a much improved resolution and lighter weight, but other than it appearing at the first every Oculus Connect a week back, we dont know anything else about it. It is likely that this hardware will form the basis of the CV1. It is also likely that this will be released anywhere between June - December 2015, but they may go either way.

AS to using a DK2 in any flight sim - difficult call. There are the current resolution issues which means you wont be competitive in spotting bogies, but you will get trackir-esque type SA whilst in a dogfight. You wont be able to read the dials very clearly - someone mentioned elite and personally ive had no problems with the text but someone who has not got their rift set up right might have an issue. EA flying at distance do become blocky but that shouldnt present a problem at distances where convergence is relevant.

Otherwise, the announcement of DK2 suport just made the game a must buy for me, simply because the immersion in a cockpit is intense - and as the owner of an AMD card I cant fly DCS! I have yet to come across a worthwhile WWII flight sim that supports the DK2 - so fingers crossed. Cant wait to hop into a cockpit, its an undescribable sensation in a DK2 so i wont bother trying :)

I like trims being newly displayed in technochat, but absolutely hate that overheat warning. :(( That (and other similar warnings) imho shouldn't be displayed when flying on expert (and expert-like custom) difficulty settings. Devs could you please look into that? thx

Occulus T-34 experience?

Posted

So this question and video wasn't so irrelevant after all?

16) Is it possible in the future the introduction of a controlled ground vehicles / ships?

Technically, yes. But now we are ready to only talk only the present. To implement these ideas need substantial funding and significantly larger staff and a longer period of production. It all depends on how popular our project is. The more users willing to pick it up, the more possibilities we will have in the future.

Sometimes we run experiments in the team, what would happen if we did ... Tanks. Here is a short video of the experiment. It shows that any technology - is only a tool, with which you can create a great deal and that it will depend on the authors and the audience for which it is intended.

The reference to T-34 is a joke... :P:biggrin:
