Fantastic guys, looking really good!
I certainly enjoyed the update in this format as well.

Looking good!

I love the ground textures especially the snow covered river and the shape of the ploughed fields under the snow.

I can't wait to have a fly around.

Thank you gentlemen. As always, your efforts are appreciated. I'm sure I'm not the only one whose excitement for the fall release has grown by leaps and bounds. Bring on the fall!!!!!!!

Thanks for this Premium Stream presentation. Well done !

If you are turning final for an easterly landing at Gumrak, the sun sitting on the tail of your gorgeous LaGG-3, the cockpit clock ticking 0900,  I guess this short flight must happened in the evening not at 0900a.m. as announced in the subtitles.

Does this quick mission around Stalingrad (Winter Map) happen during the summer season ;) (Quick mission set up) ? or

Does the sun shines along the Volga riversides at 0900pm during the winter ?

Anyway, Keep up the good Job !

Now we're nitpicking I noticed a lot of LaGG in the video...  ;-)

I ordered the Premium Edition a week ago and after watching that video I am very excited. Outstanding job gentlemen. Having owned ROF for sometime, I'm not surprised at the quality of the work.

From these pictures, we can watch the rapid transition from summer to winter camouflage during the spawning of the LaGG-3 at the beginning of mission.

Note the configuration change of the main landing gear doors.

Looking good, well done.

Just hope my PC can run it!

Automated start up is fine, as long as everything is as per real life after that, ie manual prop pitch, mixture (when it applies) oil cooler, rad flaps etc.

"Realism or less patience?", its got to be realism every time for me!

Well-spotted Rudolphe!

The game is looking and sounding really great! I really like some of the subtle stuff ... like pilot movement, things happening in the background, planes flying by etc. What's exciting is that what we're seeing is an early alpha. When all the little effects and eye candy are added like flames / smoke coming out of velocity stacks and snow being kicked up on the the runway from the propeller, the emersion will be amazing. Keep up the good work and just keep making it better and better and better

If a picture is worth a thousand words, than a recording with subtitles of a live stream video is worth a million words!  Very impressive!

Comments and Questions:

1. I think it's finally time to invest in Track IR and maybe an Oculus Rift down the road.

2. Loft said the LaGG-3 Series 29 in the simulation was slow and sluggish in dogfights and prone to stalls (just as it was in real life of course).  So it will probably be best to use it to go after Stukas, He-111s, and Ju-88s?  I wonder how the damage model will be given that its mostly wood construction could take a fair amount of punishment from what I've read?

3. As Loft was landing he commented: "The wind is blowing slightly to the right".  Will it be necessary to ask ground control which runway or vector to use to avoid landing with the wind and increasing the chances of a crash?

4. I didn't completely understand the startup sequence and how much of it the player can decide to automate or not.  Will there be no single "E" key engine start like the older IL-2?  I like using my old MSFFB2 stick but will the IL-2:BoS start-up sequence make it necessary to get a HOTAS set up in order to effectively start the engine and do other mechanical procedures?

Thanks for any answers.

Excellent update, I very much like the livestream format though I couldn't make the original Wednesday showing. Subtitles are fine for me, though I would appreciate a livestream in english - whichever is easiest for you is best.

Some comment on the content:

1. Spin entries look absolutely perfect, very believable.

2. Love the fact that the nose obsures the runway on approach requiring a bit of slipping to keep it in view - absolutely correct for these types of aircraft. Touchdown looked good too, though it looked to me that you put the mains down first, I would have expected a small bounce from that.

3. Regarding the comment about needing 6 rotations to start the engine vs 3, my personal preference would be to use the real number. the extra time to start would have no consequence for gameplay in my opinion.

4. Glad to see you holding full back stick on the ground, obviously your training flight hammered some points home .

Many thanks for taking the time to do this.

As of right now, the startup sequence is just like in Rise of Flight: open your mixture to full, press the E key, and the startup sequence begins.

I saw some comment about having to ground the magnetos - is this automatic or not?

Were are the subs?

FlyingShark,

On the lower right side of the video player do you see the CC? Click on the CC. Now select to turn on the captions.

I got the impression that some of the CEM procedures could be combined in various sequences.. or you could set it so that you have to go through each function manually ... based on the sequences from 9:50-10:25 and from 11:00 to 12:00. Did anyone else see this and to the devs is that an accurate interpretation of what was said?

Also .. in the future it would be great if you could run FRAPS while doing this and give us the specs on the PC you are using.. That would got a long way, more than any printed system requirements sheet ever could. Great stuff!! I wonder how much of a frame hit the effects will take ... It all looks great though..

Bloody impressive gentlemen. Methinks we are definately on a winner here.

Guys,IDK if these things were asked before, but:

How's the Stalingrad map?Big?Does it feature the city with it's greatness? Is the release featuring the summer version of the map?

And are the planes featuring on the Premium Edition being released later (to buy) for people that didn't get the pre order?

Posted

I think fraps at this stage wouldn't make much sense, since the numbers wouldn't be very indicative of the final performance without effects, optimization of the engine, etc. It would just lead to a lot of fruitless discussion as I see it...

1. There's a thread here somewhere showing the map's size.

2. Of course.

3. No.

It's an automatic part of the engine startup sequence, just like in RoF. Once you press the key to start the engine, things like setting the magnetos are handled by the simulation. What you didn't see in that video is the mixture and radiator(?) being manually adjusted by Loft, because those things were set to be handled by the CPU in the difficulty settings.

Q :  At 12:44 we can see the pilot holding a gun and aiming it upwards, is this a flare gun?

And if so what kind of signals can it communicate?

The flares come in a range of styles, and patterns. They cover many of the most commonly used phrases, like Da, Nyet, Maybe, Two-weeks and LoL.

Very very very cool video! Probably the best and most informative one Ive ever seen for a flightsim in this early stage.

Absolutely love the format of live stream (I dont mind subs).

It would be awesome to see such a video for every single plane, a short (or extended) walkthrough on the ground and then taking of, maybe going something fancy (stall, drop a bomb, engaging, loops etc.) and then a nice landng.

Perfect 30min entertainment and very informative too.

Glad Ive pre ordered it, cant wait to get my hands on it myself.

I dont think we need 30 mins for other streams, 10 mins is fine i think.

I also enjoyed this form of update, it's a great idea.

What we've seen of the scenery so far impresses me. The trees look excellent from low altitude. I always thought the trees in IL-2 looked cartoonish. The woodlots shown in BoS look very much like I see around home. I'd like to see more ground detail in future videos. Does the landscape stay constant with snow covering everywhere or will there be occasional bare spots?

And on the topic of the snow, is it a hard surface in the game or is it lifelike so that the snow compresses under weight? I know we saw tire and tank tracks in the previous update but I was wondering if your prop blades might cut into the snow at low level without damage or if you might be able to pull a wingtip through a drift without tearing it off?

Really enjoyed the vid and format.  This would make a great regular Friday update.  I don't mind if it's 15 minutes or longer and don't mind what language it's in if the subtitles are this good.  Well done Zak.

Feel humbled and most appreciative by what you guys have done, the decision to share at this stage in development couldn't have been an easy one?

Pretty amazing, considering the timeline from inception to the current high quality build that has been evident throughout this live streaming.

Good show gentlemen and I look to forward to further community 'gifts' as and when they are available.
