Will there be other maps?

Yes, it's roughly the area we had on the Bessarabia map from the old Il-2. Not a bad choice.

How big is that?

Posted

I think a little over 300 x 300 kilometer.

When we get the necessary planes this map could also be used for 1944 scenarios.

Odessa! Smart move! We can use a lot of the aircraft we have now and it would work (although we really need early Ju87, LaGG and Yak versions) just fine. Great idea!

No need for Yak-1s or LaGG-3s - by the time Odessa was overrun these were only beginning to be introduced. The core of the Odessa defense was MiG-3s, I-16s, I-153s, SBs and Su-2s.

...and 55 IAP was there! :)

The I 153 fought well in the mountains. And the IAR80 would be a nice addition

The I-153 is one of my all time favourite aircraft.  One can only hope...

So in some ways... Even better!

We're missing the I-153, SB-2, and Su-2... but its not a huge stretch to sub in the Moscow planeset to "make it work". Even better if we actually got those types... but that's me being greedy :D

According to Zeus the final map size will probably be around 280x280 km. So it will be possible to show the whole Bessarabia campaign (Operation München) in 1941. Hopefully we will also get some ships. The Black Sea Fleet played an important role during the siege of Odessa.

Another big city we won't be able to fly over?

Unlike Moscow, flying over Odessa will be necessary.

First of all Odessa isn't Moscow size-wise and secondly as you surely saw when you studied the last posts of this thread Odessa lies in the middle of the map.

Just asking. Not a snarky comment on my part, sorry you took it that way.

Communication without spoken words, across this cold format of the internet is really hard, isn't it?

I still wish that we could all meet up somewhere for a giant weekend of flying the game together and sharing a few cold ones,  It would smooth out a lot of bumps in the road methinks.

In vino veritas.

Yes I wish they would put together a Meet and great 777 Studios and 1C games, at least once every 5 years or so to talk, eat sleep and think Aviation, maybe a weekend Air-show, like a tiger meet here in the states?

During the vacation months for the EU guys to make it out here and help them find nice but cheap accommodations.

The Russian people from Wings of Liberty do regular meet-ups, usually in Moscow. Some country-specific ones would already be a charm, I'm pretty sure every European country and each state in the USA, Canada and Brazil have at least 5 sim jockeys willing to meet at a local bar :)

Brilliant, Zeus! Fields start to look like fields! Great work!

(And if I was to poke latitude and longitude into Google Earth this would be...? In other words, are we still near Odessa?)

If you're texturing fields, might I suggest...

Thats amazing work zeus! Very looking forward to this :)

Btw: In the picture the shimmering like in BOS summer map is visible. (upper right quarter of the picture) it seems that some parts of texture seem to be elevated a bit over the map level when viewed from further away and this causes the shimmering effect. Do you know where it comes from?

cheers

The summer textures look good. I hope we will one day also see summer textures for the Moscow and Velikie Luki maps. ;)

Are there any plans to create ships for the map? If I remember correctly, someone was working on ships for the Murmansk map. Is the work on these ships still continuing?
