SCG_Neun Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Okay.....come on somebody....give us a Hitler tirade from "Downfall" about flying off the map......so we can laugh this thing away...... 1
FlyingNutcase Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Personally, I'm much more open to the idea of "border control" now that the multiplayer hiding etc side if has been explained. As a small coop & offliner I'd never considered that side of it. But I don't understand the reaction of some people to others stating an opinion or making a suggestion. Things like implying that a suggestion will delay release (so stay quiet) and that anyone making a suggestion is a complainer or out to get noticed. It would nice if some folk could show a little more respect for their fellow simmers. Part of early access is the ability to provide feedback, is it not? 1
Uufflakke Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 (edited) Okay.....come on somebody....give us a Hitler tirade from "Downfall" about flying off the map......so we can laugh this thing away...... Don't worry, tomorrow is Development Diary #41 so nobody cares anymore about the ''Yes but, No but" comments here anymore. This update slips down to the bottom of page 1 to page 2 etc. And next week the Early Access starts so then there is much more to talk about. Edited November 14, 2013 by Uufflakke 1
ACG_Dickie Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 I see legitimate criticism here, and there's no problem with that. Some of the disparaging remarks some people have said really have no place on a forum that we don't pay to keep up. So if they get deleted, that's fine by me. I've no complaint with the video but this comment just baffles me. How exactly haven't customers paid for forums given that thousands of punters have handed over money then? Of course it's paid for, that's blindingly obvious.
Karost Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Sorry I for my pool awareness :D some people seem not happy when his opponent who has faster plane keep run a way from him . "Hey don't running away from me turn back! and let me shoot you".... but the guy is smart to stand on his advantage to save his pilot life. in real life P-51 , P-47 or early war for BF-109F4 use speed advantage for hit and run if your want IL2:BOS become one of the best wwii combat flight "simulator" please re-consider a "Boxing" request it will turn IL2:BOS become arcade-sim..... that is not a Dev. primary objective. for IL2-friends in the same situation when meet opponent friends who has a faster plane we not cry when our friends use speed advantage to run way ... we call "retreat" and we accept that S!
Skoshi_Tiger Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 The names of settlements as well as location of the airfields are fictional on this map. Only the landscape is true, and it was taken from the main game map. Are there any Russian "joke" names among the fictional locations and airfields, or are they completely sensible?
Skoshi_Tiger Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 (edited) Well that is clearly not workable! The icon at the top of the screen clearly indicates a right hand turn, but the plane actually makes a left turn to get away from the map edge. You are absolutly there Sergent, but I am from Australia and you know we're all wild and crazy guys down here! Where's a traffic cop when you need one! I called it a cheat, because cheat and exploiting weaknesses in a system are very interchangeable. If it offends you that exploiting a weakness can be labelled cheating, in this case playing outside of the game map for reasons to clearly circumvent defenses, then don't do it. http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2009/12/microsoft-difference-between-cheat-exploit-none-banned/ As a sand box simulation the rules for the 'game' are specified by the people who make missions and run the server so I'd defer labeling anything cheating until I'd examine the server rules. Hey on some servers vulching is classed as cheating, or on some taking a screen shot is even "Cheating" because in some situations it can cause warping. It doesn't happen in all situations or every server, but hey that would be listed in the server and mission rules. Nice article there Furious. I glad I don't own a XBox360. It's seams a lot easier for Micro$oft to ban users rather than fix their software. Edited November 15, 2013 by Skoshi_Tiger

On some servers the Boom & Zoom is a cheat... some people consider 6DoF a cheat ... and of course there was the classic trim on a slider cheat... I am very very wary of using the term cheat... because IMO the term "cheat" is a direct inference to a person's character... and I do not use the term lightly. Believe me.. someone will find a way to exploit whatever features there are in BoS and I for one will never call them cheaters.. because for one thing I do not know them well enough .. whoever they are to make character judgements about them and for another, as I said... in my opinion .. a cheat is something that is either A)Not available to everyone .. B)Something that can be done secretly without anyone else's knowledge or C)Something that is not a part of the standard design of the product. If I can go off the map.... and no one else can .. If I can see where everyone else is regardless to server settings and no one else can .. If I can zoom in close on a target.. and no one else can... and not only that but I can also do all that without anyone knowing it or being able to counter it.. THAT .. constitutes a cheat. For me this is a far more logical, realistic and reasonable approach to determining whether or not something is a cheat or not... All this other stuff being bandied about are just exploits... and every game.. every sim ever made and every sim that will ever be made will have some kind of exploit built into it that someone will use in an unintended fashion. In CFS 1 you could zoom in infinitely... as long as you could keep your plane steady and the target in the pipper you could hit it from ridiculous distances.. That was an exploit... not a cheat because everyone could do it. Now I realize that some in this thread will disagree and they are entitled to their opinion just as I and folks who think like me are entitled to ours. At the end of the day ..... it is what it is. BoS will be what it will be and I will enjoy it regardless.. I won't like everything about it just as I didn't like everything about IL2, DCS,CoD,ROF,CFS 1 or 2 and any other game that I have played over the past 30+ years... but I do have preferences about some things.. and that meaning my post that seems to have sparked so much... interest... is one of them. I am going to enjoy my time off from work next week... the whole week... and regardless to what state BoS is in .. I know it will only get better as time goes by. 2
FuriousMeow Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Nice article there Furious. I glad I don't own a XBox360. It's seams a lot easier for Micro$oft to ban users rather than fix their software. Well it's a Xbox 360, which is now replaced by the XboxOne that has the always on camera and a host of other "features" and since I prefer a PC over consoles I won't pick it up. The only reason I ever played Xbox or the 360 was for Halo, nothing else I cared for that wasn't on the PC. The last console I owned was the N64, I'm not a console person. But if you are going to intentionally go, for sake of argument, out of bounds to avoid combat in an air combat simulator wouldn't that require a pause for a second as to what it's being done for, and why? The 180 degree reversal is the devs solution to a problem that exists. Is it technical, or is it gameplay related? For the gameplay reason I suggested an alternative that I think works quite well because quite simply if an indvidual isn't on the map, why are they not on the map? If it's because they had to take off and fly in that direction, then they should only have to be off the map for a couple of minutes. If they are doing it for other reasons, such as circumventing defensive patrols and weaponry, then why are they playing an air combat simulation at all? I totally understand the cheat label, and many quite frankly are. Screenshots to cause delay which induces warping, stick stirring, ctrl-alt-del/rebooting to end the game instead of being shot down, going into a merge and pulling up at the last second using lag to cause your ghost plane to ram into the other plane but not damaging yours (old one from the dial up days), and the list goes on. Any host of names can be chosen to label them, but they are very much the word that apparently gets a few riled up - but we'll go with exploiting technologies limits to be politically correct for now.
BeastyBaiter Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Time to break the mouse pressing the refresh button constantly for hours on end?
I/JG27_Rollo Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Oh man, those are gonna be some looooong hours...
=38=Tatarenko Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Are there any Russian "joke" names among the fictional locations and airfields, or are they completely sensible? Well the town in the north is called north, the one on the right is called right, several are named after developers. Overall though it is WAY too crowded with villages. Those are empty steppes, much of it not even farmed.
Dormouse Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 There's a funny one on the south called Nagibaevka. If I translated it from Ru to En, that would be something like "p0wning town" Sure, it's been cut off from the rest of the territory. Is this the area where ARMIR was deployed?
