Jade_Monkey Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 My wild guess: they are much closer than we think to getting a DX11 version (not 12). They have been very aware of DX9 shortcomings probably since ROF and they have been silently working on it. Maybe they are even holding the official BOM release until its ready *soonish*. They know that VR is important and they already showed good progress (64 bit, rudimentary Vive suport). Also there was a very subtle hint from Han in the questions for developers thread, that keeps my hopes up about this. 3
Feathered_IV Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 Hopefully there will be other features being introduced soon too. 6/10 depth of gameplay will be the same under DX12 as it is under DX9. 1
=362nd_FS=Hiromachi Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 To be fair I'm just waiting for something, its been too quiet for too long. I know its summer and all that stuff, but still reading those news was a big thing every now and then.
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 I wouldn't raise hopes for a new DX that soon. While I do believe there's more to the delay than just the Steam release this would actually mean a big delay in their development of the next expansion and therefore expected income. However, it is probably the best time to rework the engine since new developments will be based on the new technology and every expansion released now only multiplies the workload when the engine upgrade finally appears.
Irgendjemand Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 While I do believe there's more to the delay than just the Steam release insolvence? Just kidding. Hopefully not

My point was that they didnt just start working on it, but instead it's well ahead of our expectations. They can start working on other parts of the next theater while the engine is tuned. Obviously this is just pure speculation.
Brano Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 Today is perfect time for DD = double digit. I feel I can get over 10 beers :D

Livai Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 They know that VR is important and they already showed good progress (64 bit, rudimentary Vive suport). LoL, important, for who, for how many? They said they add basic support for now! They not said they add a full support ASAP or in the future. I am sure they track and known very good how many user use VR. I am sure they will not raise the basic support to full support just for a few VR user. Full Support means to have DirectX 11 what this game not has. The game looks good with DirectX 9. Why they should change something for a few! 1
Picchio Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 (edited) We can have all the VR we want but it won't mean a thing if it's not sustained through a better game design. What exactly would you suggest to improve depth? Feathered_IV has been posting very lucid and meaningful arguments on this exact matter since forever. Edited July 22, 2016 by Picchio 1

An upgrade to DX11/12 will help a lot more than VR users...like everybody DX9 may 'look good' but it has big performance drawbacks which need big money systems to run at max, a DX upgrade would make the sim accessible to a much larger audience on medium hardware Cheers Dakpilot

Its was all under the assumption of a DX upgrade (which the devs have already hinted at). Also i said important, not that there is full adoption. VR headsets just came out to consumers and they are expensive and in short supply. It's a longer term play.
Jason_Williams Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 We have plans to update the engine to DX11. That will take a few months if everything goes well. And we will build support for VR as we have said. We continue to have discussions on what to build next and the team works to put BOM on Steam. When we're ready we'll make an announcement. Jason 37

Jason Glad to hear this. Without much technical knowledge, i anticipate some CPU resources will be made available if there is better multithreading, perhaps leading to more ground units etc??

Zettman Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 (edited) DX11 sounds great. I guess many would prefer DX12, but everything is better than DX9. And if that means I can use my Rift in IL2 BoS too, thats fine. Zettman Edited July 22, 2016 by Zettman
GrendelsDad Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 I can wait for dx12 when they release Pacific Fighters 2.0 in 2018. wink.
dburne Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 While DX12 would certainly be nice, DX11 is so much better than DX9 - makes much better use of the GPU's we pay good money for. 2

And if that means I can use my Rift in IL2 BoS too, thats fine. Zettman I would too but then I realized that there's a whole bunch of players still on Win 7 and Win 8/8.1 and they would be left out. Not a great move for a game dev with a market this small so DX11 is the smart choice. 3
Albino Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 (edited) Excellent! I have a suspicion that after the DX11 upgrade we will also see a paid IL-2 Tanks release Edited July 23, 2016 by Albino 7
Rjel Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 I wonder if the Dx11 mention will turn out like the one for 64 bit did? Most of us thought that would be months away that time and it showed up a few days later. Dx11 support popping up sooner than later would be a shocker I think but we've had some big surprises dropped on us before.

So DX11 was the correct choice without a doubt. Zettman
GrendelsDad Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 Picchio...keep posting that pic all over the forums...its not funny and honestly the internet has moved on from facepalm. Just so you know. Did you get shot down by a tank or something? 2
