BlackDevil Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 (edited) I think, it is a poor decision to have the navigation icon on the map in expert mode. What do you think ? Edited October 28, 2014 by BlackDevil
LAL_Luny Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 It s good enough to know more or less where you are with no plane icon and "my plane" option on the map . you can guess the rest by finding some landmarks and make your way. (forests shapes is helpful on winter)
FZG_Merlin Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 remove it all together from the expert mode. it has NOTHING to do there
pilotpierre Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 Press i and it disappears, no poll required, its players choice.
NN_TaehtDewoht Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 When we fly historical or in expert mode... no icône! That's one part of the difficulties to fly "expert" at my point of view. Especially on dogfiht server where the scenario 'll be only a big fight over 2-3 air bases remote by only 20 km..
wellenbrecher Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Press i and it disappears, no poll required, its players choice. Not in MP. A level playing field is key there.
BlackDevil Posted October 29, 2014 Author Posted October 29, 2014 (edited) Press i and it disappears, no poll required, its players choice. You think it makes sense in MP, if you switch it off and your opponents fly with GPS ? Navigation was the main task not only for bomber pilots. I fly expert mode in MP because I am looking for maximum realism. And this design decision spoils a lot for me. CCG_Pips Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Press i and it disappears, no poll required, its players choice. No Sir, sorry. Not so Easy in case of (in future) online coop mission with 32 or more players!!! it needs to be securised to avoid any complaint.
Brewnix Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 I think the neutral part would to be is let the server have the decision. I pretty sure there would be server hosts that would drop the icon for those that would like to navigate. I think it would be cool.
II./JG77_Manu* Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Every reasonable expert server host (like Haash, Abortedmen, LD guys etc.) would remove it, so yes, of course, custom server choice is always the best decision
wellenbrecher Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 It actually blows my mind that it apparently is not a server choice. Why would they ever enforce it this way? At times it genuinely does feel like it's their set goal to annoy "certain people" as much as possible for no reason 1
wellenbrecher Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Relevant here: The GPS icon (at least for MP, as it's hardly an issue for SP) is temporary. They only bothered to say so on the Russian forum though. Thanks to Yakmaster who made the effort to sift through that place and gave us a few links: http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/12331-aircraft-position-indication-expert-mode/?p=191282
Sim Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Definitely, this and the "technochat" telling you exact % for continuous power needs to be a server option (or separate difficulty option above Expert level).
Solmyr Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 Very weird and annoying that the devs don't let us choose what we want exactly These little details are from huge importance. But, please, could someone explain why, in Expert mode (or whatever we call it, but "max" realism setting), we can't get a simple map of the region ??!! Do I really need to go at a publisher in order to make a physical reproduction of this Stalingrad map ? (and the other ones) I just need the map, nude, nothing else, just like in Il-2 !
Sokol1 Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 Solmyr, In EXPERT you can use the map on briefing (O). And if don't want see the "GPS" in this, set this way: http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/12331-aircraft-position-indication-expert-mode/?do=findComment&comment=190793
1./JG42Nephris Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 (edited) Give your customers the freedom of choice. Let me choose if i want to play full real, or arcade or just custom. Enough of control bondage. “Mr. -777-, Tear Down This Wall” At the end , these are the decissions which will probably make the game fall. That issue owes to the same pot of reasons why I still can not recommend the game to my squad m8s, although it is basically well done. They would hang me, if I recommend a game, where you are supposed to play "full real" and are able to use GPS and where you cant create your own customs settings. Plz dont tell me of "press I". We all know it is not the same. Edited October 30, 2014 by 1./JG42Nephris 1

But I think that what we want is to be able to ENTIRELY custom our difficulty/realism setting. Just like it was in Il2 FB. Then it can be completed by quick presets, if the dev want to offer this possibility. But at this moment, the customing possibilities are too weak. Edited October 31, 2014 by Solmyr
[DBS]Prody Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 (edited) i'm a beginner and i got the game only because i'm a bomber fan , i fly almost exclusively the He111 , i agree with you that removing the navigation tool should be a server option because its a noobish tool but, in my opinion, ( at least if you fly a bomber) , you should always have the map option without any server being able to disable it , just a simple map, nothing else on it. It's absurd to fly a bomber and try to remember the map from the briefing, that was not the way it was done , you had a guy , the navigator, that had a tons of maps with him and his was doing calculations all the time in order to determine the plane position by making use of the landmarks ( if visible ) , stars and so on . I don't want to print a map, it's silly , that will mean that when i play the game in the evenings or at night i should turn the lights on in my room in order to see the map, i just can't see what is wrong with having a simple map at your disposal in the game, as i said , at least for a bomber crew is entirely accurate . JG1_Labroisse Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 Remove the icon. And it sure would be nice to have a zoomable and moveable lap map as well. Ridiculous decision for the pilot to have to go full screen just to glance at the map.
