So, I dropped $100 on this game back in August, 2013.  In good faith.  I have to blitz the install completely, and re-install completely. 

 

Fast forward to September 2014.  I drop ANOTHER $100 on the game for my wife.  She's like "Should I just get it on Steam?" and I say "Make sure you get the Lala and the 190" she says "Yeah, it's $95" or something like that.

 

So. tonight, while I am completely reinstalling this, my bastard wife is going to be playing the campaign.

 

Therein lies my angst, my good Frenchman.

I'd be surprised if Steam doesn't dump the current install and reload just like you (us), except that, of course, it will be automated.

Have you send a message to the dev team to change this issue? They are often very reactive and I don't think this is a hard problem to solve.

 

No I haven't, as devs have frequently stated on the forum it couldn't be changed for the duration of the Beta. I've accepted this, although to me it's a clear case of miswording in the game. Having said this, most people were smarter than me and didn't put in their real names.

We have to wait for the "green light" from devs.

Master server will be down till 20h00 GMT, so I guess the update won't come before that time...

Hope? When I first activated the game I was asked for my name - not game name, or username. I thought input of my real name was required for verification of my purchase and game activation, to match my credit card name. No warning it would not be changeable. Now I've been stuck with my real name displayed and don't care to play MP with it, or post screenshots. This has taken off value from my whole early founder experience.

Mac, most possibly there will be a possibility to change your ingame name.

Right. Well I'm ready. The whole game has been deleted, everything. System has been cleaned including the registry and my machine has been rebooted. You wouldn't even know BOS had been on its hard drive. Roll on 20:00

If so it would be really stupid idea.

 

Im sure that there are many players which dont play single player at all like me, i haven't play single for at least 10 years and i dont have  intention of doing so.

 

It should be possible to unlock mods playing online and scoring points at least like in other games.

As told already by the defs, you have to fly with the aircraft to unlock things of the aircraft.

oldies IL2 flighsimers will have to play like teenagers in "needforspeed" doing some race to have better car/aircraft

The most funny thing is, that I moved BoS from my SSD drive to another drive in order to save disk space just 2 days ago!

I had to remap all the stuff, because I was too lazy to backup the inputfolder....

And now here I go again...

At least I have the practise to remap the stuff in no time....

Why do you want absolutely to have your game on your Steam account?

I have some games on my steam account, some others not. The fact is, I really don't care.

The game works, the two versions are the same. I really don't care, I don't to a point you can't even imagine, to have this game on steam or not!

 

Let me give you one pro-Steam reason straight from the devs today:

 

"Steam version owners won’t need all that as the update is going to be automatic."

 

So in practice the early adopters suffer.. first by the need for wiping our controls every now and then and now we gotta erase and re-install the whole game. I guess there was some reason posted why the early adopters can't be migrated to steam accounts, but it doesn't take away the pain of re-mapping and stuff. It wouldn't be too bad for an FPS but with the sim-controls it's a real pain in the ass!!

 

Still, yay for the campaign mode! It's progress, unlock grind or not! One step closer to the release!

This re-install is just a ONE TIME thing for Early Access non-steam users. This won't happen after launch. Never has with ROF and won't with BOS.
