Its not working even with the VORPX drivers. But the devs have said that they will be incorperating support when its ready.  Trust me. Its not ready for Flight sims yet due to the laow resolution.  By the CV it will be EPIC.

Full HD dev version of Oculus Rift tuning was completed last week. Thanks to our programming team, the game is absolutely compatible with this new technology. It’s truly hard to find words worth describing the whole range of emotions: delight, fear, curiosity, admiration, interest - all the feelings born by flying over Stalingrad in virtual reality. Yes, I know that the device  is not yet available to users on a true retail level and it will hardly be inexpensive, but trust me: HD Oculus suits BOS as great as cream suits hot borsch   :) A high level of immersion - usually featured by a quality sim game - becomes incredible due to the use of this thing. And yes, I don’t recommend it to faint hearted pilots. Although I don’t think there are a lot of those in our community, is there?

According to this they've had it working.

This info from the Devs got me buying DK2 , it's kinda sad that they went from 'HD Oculus suits BOS as great as cream suits hot borsch' to 'But the devs have said that they will be incorperating support when its ready. Hooves is closer to Devs then we are and him repeating that DK2 is not enough for combat sims ( I don't agree fully with this statement) , makes me worried that we might not see any support for DK2 at all.

I won't be surprised if instead we get a statement fro the Devs saying that they will wait for CV (late 2015?) before we get OR support.

Look at the triple screen problem , it's not a new 'tech' and yet there is no support for it , only workarounds.

Time will tell , but to be honest I am loosing faith slowly. If it was possible we would have native support in RoF , after all it's not Beta.

Oh man, reading this makes it not easier to wait for CV1,

I do recall that SimHq am article ran where Oculus was flown on an early BoS build. I found a link to that article here:  http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/09/06/best-of-gamescom-il-2-sturmovik-and-oculus-rift/   and this one:  http://www.hookedgamers.com/pc/il-2_sturmovik_battle_of_stalingrad/preview/article-1158.html

Here, a link of a comment by the Devs on the Steam communitty earlier this month: http://steamcommunity.com/app/307960/discussions/0/35221031587974163/

So at least I know where it's at in the scheme of things. Imagine if the OR guys get it right and BoS releases it's support for that piece of gear. Doing so may put pressure on DCS and other sim builders to get on board or be left behind. Good days ahead, guys. I recall an article from SimHq asking if sims were dead. It was dated 2000.

at least I have my answer!

thanks all!

PS BoS is getting it's props, and the word is spreading: http://www.pcworld.com/article/2461375/meet-the-most-insanely-authentic-flight-sims-ever-il-2-sturmovik-battle-of-stalingrad-and-ilya-muro.html

I think you got this a bit wrong, DCS is already supporting the rift, so are many others, at this moment in time it is BOS risking being left behind, OR are doing a fine job already and the developer hardware really shows it.

bongdriver, I gladly stand corrected! I'm beginning to doubt BoS will be left behind. My confidence in the sim's direction has grown. It ought to be a great one.I hope DCS will (also) support Rift in it's coming  WW2 world for the Mustang and Dora.

bongdriver, I've been considering the DK2. Would you post a review of what it's like to go flying with the DK2? I'd like to read what a sim pilot has to say about using the kit. I'm imagine a HOTAS would be a requirement. Have you tried it in BoS?

thank you,

BOS doesn't support the Oculus yet and won't in all probability until the final Oculus consumer version is released maybe in 2015.

for the titles that do it is a wake up moment to experience it, even I was cautiously sceptical about VR thinking it was going to be a gimmicky thing, but my first reaction when I tried the DK1 was 'I see now, nothing will ever be the same' and I promptly unplugged my TIR and vowed to never use it again, if you are a competitive online player then forget about the Oculus for now, it's not up to the task, if you just have a fascination with flight or similar experiences then it's an absolute must have, flying around, doing aerobatics, low level in a mountain range are all simply breath taking experiences in VR, the other day I tried a Star Wars game that an independent developer put out for demo, it recreates the Battle for Endor, I'm flying an X-wing against swarms of Tie fighters darting through formations of Imperial star cruisers who are engaged with the rebel fleet, everything is going on while the half Destroyed Death Star is just sitting there in static orbit over the moon of Endor and all of it is in full 1:1 scale.........my Jaw fell open, everything my eyes and ears were telling me was that I was actually there.

I've played DCS and Warthunder and I guess Elite Dangerous sorta counts. It's really a breathtaking feeling. I think spotting isn't harder but identification is. Looking behind you is a lot of work but then it also is in real life. I play sims for immersion, I want to feel like I was a WW2 pilot. If you play for immersion it's worth the price. If you treat is as a game you must win then I recommend staying with trackIR as it's easier.

Please try not to take my words out if context. The DK2 is not ready for competitive play yet. The resolution is not there yet. The dev team will be getting a DK2. But its up to them when they include support. All of the indicators and posts ob these forums have only expressed positive support for the OR. But they also have a game to finish. They like the tech, and understand how important VR is tp a flight sim game/community. I cannot speak for them however. But my gut feeling is. When this has been released they will have a minute to implement the new headset and software.

It does work in DCS and id great but tags are a nesescity. So it might work for REGULAR in game BoSsettings.

My advice. Be patient. And dont jump to conclusions with no facts.

Look like it will be good/competitive for sim playing beginning with 4k resolution (but what monster machine we need to have for 60 fps in 4k)?

Yes, brilliant implementation, I haven't got stuck into the game fully yet though.

On my DK2 the screen door effect is more noticeable, and the text isn't as clear as the 1080P on that site.

Really? for me it has all but vanished and the text is like the 1440p same as driftaholic.

It's not quite the same because the DK2 OLED display doesn't have pixels in a matrix like that website describes instead its like this

"Some" of our difference in perceptions could be clouded from where we are coming from.   You "may" be comparing your experience with the DK2 to the DK1, while I'm coming from a desktop monitor.  The first thing that jumped out at me was the DK2's screen door effect.

That said my first experience with the DK2 was less than satisfying, as the software IPD adjustment had no chance of correcting for my IPD of 73mm.   So everything was blurry, which also induced some nausea.  Now that I've physically modded the IPD of the Rift things are much better, but of course the screen door is still there.  That said the screen door effect is quickly forgotten once immersed in the sim.

From dev comments I'm fairly confident that the Consumer Rift will have a physical IPD adjustment, along with many other features that should make it a hit in the consumer market place.

Yeah hold back mate, play it in dribs and drabs, keep that full release experience fresh for when it hits at christmas time if you can. I'm hoping my DK2 is coming in sometime this month, besides killing me having 240 in my account i cant touch, im looking forward to seeing just how good it is in elite and of cos BoS when its ready.

I thought DK2 came with a small wheel on the side of the headset to change the PD.

No, it's got the same jobbies the DK1 had which adjust distance between lenses and screen, no IPD adjustment.

So your saying everything was blury but the pixles were more noticeable? Seems contradictory. I have never used DK1 so I can only base my opinion of my DK2 coming from a 29" 2560x1080 monitor.

No... I never said anything that remotely suggests that  the screen door is more noticeable because of the blurriness of the display.   The screen was blurry in my case because the Oculus uses an average IPD of around 65mm with a software adjustment that might improve things for those within a few mm of that IPD.   The software adjustment will have little effect on those outside that range.  I was able to do a physical mod to my Rift that now allows both eyes to see the display clearly, which made the screen door effect even clearer.   Maybe you don't notice the screen door effect but most people on the Oculus, and reddit forums can see it quite clearly.

Gotcha. I can see the screen door and it looks like 1440p on that oculus simulator site. My point is the site makes it look worse then it is. Here is a picture from the oculus reddit showing a picture through the lens of the screen door effect:

I got my DK2 at the start of the week, mainly for things like Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous, where there are easy to read HUDs and targeting systems so the low resolution isn't such a blocker (having tried DCS P-51 its hard enough spotting the enemy, never mind getting a visual ID) though I'm hoping for BoS support for the feeling of flight and feeling of shooting at Heinkels, and with the hopes that support might eventually trickle down to RoF, where it's less of a 'dial reader' and where Aircraft are easier to ID than many of their WW2 counterparts.

Though I have a large IPD and am also waiting for the updated DK2 adjusters, so that might help clear things up.
