SR-F_Winger Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Did anyone test out the limits in RPM etc. and would care to share?

I went a bit further: (Notleistung takeoff) Full bomb load ( 50kg and 1x500 kg ), 60% fuel ~2400 RPM 1.30 Ata climbing up to 4km alt. ( ~15-20 min ) - no engine damage. I think 5-6km are possible to reach. Haven't got enough time to test it at the moment. Edited August 27, 2014 by RoterBallon
VR-DriftaholiC Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 (edited) Can this thing takeoff with a full load? I believe I tried with 100% fuel 2x1800 and a I think a full bomb bay and manage to slowly stall after getting airborne at 200kph. It just wouldn't leave ground effect. I doubt that He 111s routinely operated with that load. According to Wikipedia (not the best source, but it cites Karl-Heinz Regnats Black Cross Volume 4: Heinkel He 111) "Carrying bombs externally increased weight and drag and impaired the aircraft's performance significantly. Carrying the maximum load usually required rocket-assisted take-off". And 100% fuel is going to give an endurance of something over 8 hours - more than you are ever going to need in BoS. Incidentally, you can't have an internal bombload with two external bomb racks - the second rack blocks the bomb bay. Edited August 27, 2014 by AndyJWest
AndyJWest Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 I've just managed to take off with no wind, 100% fuel, and 2 x 1800 kg bombs - it is possible. The initial rate of climb (at around 220 km/h - full up trim) is only 2 m/s or so though.
VR-DriftaholiC Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 yup i finally managed it haha I I don't think a full fuel load is 8 hrs. 30% didn't even get me 1. Auto bombing is hard.

I was training a little bit yesterday. You have to keep in mind the wind in m/s and direction. Bombsight: Set in on "view", then go "further" to spot target. Set up Airspeed, Alt., windspeed and direction. Set bombsight on "auto" once target is straight in your bombsight's cross, open bomb bay and selct "auto drop bombs" ( or w/e it is called ). Tried in 4 times in 3 km alt and is was not exactly precise, but close enought to destoy the selected target. But is pretty hard to hit single AAs :/
