HagarTheHorrible Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 I was thinking about the antisocial behaviour and harassment in online forums and that a lot of it stems from the anonymity of users. I wondered if the future of forums, maybe envisioned by Facebook, is that with devices like the Oculus Rift you actually end up in a room as a 3D presence, wandering from group to group, rather than thread to thread, to chat and listen. You physical presence is a recognisable avatar, preferably of yourself. Facetime, in 3D,with a group of people with similar interests.

First and foremost, and with a direct correlation to this forum, I see the future of this forum improving as the developer continues to meet the expectations of its community. I can attest to a personal change in outlook with the recent course of things and from the embarrassment caused by another one of our "naysaying" community members. 2. On the future of online forums in general, I certainly hope that will never be the case... With as devolved as things can be in their current form, I imagine one would only be able to embarrass themselves better, elicit more personal responses, belittle people to a greater degree, etc. I believe Sony tried it with "PlaystationHome" on the Playstation 3 console. IIRC, it was a terrible, pointless blunder. How knows - I could be completely wrong on that point as well. Maybe putting a face back with its name is exactly what we all need.
