II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 (edited) This is another short article on something I’ve been contemplating for a while. Namely; the difference between each of the modes. There should be a bigger difference in my opinion. Normal Light: What is currently the Normal mode should be modified ever so slightly and be renamed the Normal Light mode. The distance flags should be placed below the aircraft, as opposed to above, so they cannot be used to artificially pull lead on an enemy in close. The 9km is good for this mode and it is probably good to see through the aircraft and clouds. No changes to FM but CEM should be off. Lighten the AAA or remove it completely. These are the arenas new pilots should be starting off in to learn the basics and how to get their planes into the air. Combat should be geared to the beginners - AAA would be less or no concern at all. Basic flight and simple combat maneuvering should be the focus in the, "Light," servers. This is where the, “noobs,” should be making the transition from mouse games to flight sims. It would be a really good place for squads to take new guys for training and teamwork exercises. All of the external views, "on." Normal: Normal mode should get a full makeover. No distance flags. Move the distance counter directly below the aircraft and take the stick off of it. If you can’t do this without changing the stick/flagpole in Normal Light, then dump the sticks altogether. They are kind of useless and annoying anyway. Change the distance counter to below the aircraft and only have it become visible at 2 or 2.5km. Let the counter fade in as the aircraft get closer. I think Skies of Valor or one of the other ’46 servers did this. The counter can either truly fade in so the color is hard to decipher or simply start out gray. At 1km it should change to the correct/full color and aircraft type. At .5km it should say the pilot’s name. Anything that is blind would be blind; clouds, seat armor, wings/fuse, etc. Full AAA would be implemented. This is where traditional flight simmers and rusty combat veterans would mix it up. It would force you to hunt and track considerably more actively, allow sneak attacks to develop more naturally, and be a true check six server. All of the external views, "OFF." Right now there is almost no situational awareness required. Add more ground targets, static AAA, etc. Expert: Expert should be largely unchanged. I like what is there and what is not there. So, no significant changes. Hardcore mode should be VERY hard to play well and it is. II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted August 26, 2014 Author Posted August 26, 2014 Oh, yeah maps, Light: everybody within 10k and their position is represented. Normal: just my aircraft and position Expert: no change.
VR-DriftaholiC Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 (edited) expert needs the hud removed or at least the engine management part. You should be forced to read your gauges in expert. Edited August 26, 2014 by driftaholic 2
Schmalzfaust Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 expert needs the hud removed or at least the engine management part. You should be forced to read your gauges in expert. +1
I./ZG1_HeTzeR Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 (edited) Expert needs the Autopilot removed! currently every plane including fighters can engage the AP....silly. (Bombers is ok) Edited August 26, 2014 by I./JG21-HeTzeR
354thFG_Leifr Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Agreed with regards to the HUD information on the 'Expert' servers. We ought be forced to read the in-game gauges and check the position of wheels, levers and switches.
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted August 26, 2014 Author Posted August 26, 2014 MODS, Please close/lock this thread I am going to amend and post in another thread that was created just before this one.
FlatSpinMan Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Okay, locking as requested. EDIT: I should probably actually lock it, I suppose. Let's try that again.
