  1. 1. On what difficulty settings you usually play?

    • Full switched on, no externals, no minimap icons, no enemy/frendly icons, on HUD only simple messages and maybe heading, FM/DM realistic
    • Cocpit locked, outside view enabled, my airplane icons on minimap, some limitation on frendly/enemy airplanes icons in game (distance/range, type, color...), HUD with heading, altitude and speed bar, padlocks on, FM/DM realistic
    • All views enabled, cocpit not locked, all icons on minimap, HUD full on, full enemy frendly icons on 4-6km visible, padlocks on, FM/DM realistic
    • Something different (explain what settings in post)

Was wondering on what settings most of us on this forum play in games. I mostly play on full switched or full real settings, you?

Remember "no instant success?"  I always had that one off in 1946.  Otherwise you were supposed to attempt the same mission over and over again until it was a success, as if a real pilot had that luxury.

We've run into the same "repeat until successful" thing in the RoF static campaigns, and I hope it doesn't appear in BoS.

Yes i remember this, i would usealy edit campaigns and missions i have or i made for my self in that way to have always primary objective to be finished by pilot returning his airplane to his take-of base, or transfer base (depending on mision) so no instant successproblem was resolved, then even if you fail mission objective (didnt destroy some % of targets or airplanes) but you returned safe to your base ( more like in RL) objective was finished and you could advance to next mission

That depends.

In MP, prefer no helps at all. So highest difficulty settings, no icons, no HUD etc.

In SP, i usually keep external views on, for some fly-by views etc. on the way to the combat area. Also sometimes icons to find other squadrons (bombers to escort or whatever, because i can't ask them where they currently are).

Full realism, except engine overheating off, all external views on and no hud icons.

Voted for one, but whit External views on, I like to see my machine!

I thought i covered FR with external view on in no2 , but i see there should be one more between no1 and 2. In SP campaigns or co-ops i also sometimes like to have external view to enjoy action far from me

Something different.

When I can afford it, I go for full realism, but turn on different aids when I need them. I don't always feel like treating the game fully seriously.
Usually when I have time and mood to fly I'm already to tired to strain my eyes out, so I turn contact icons on.
When I fly over area I know beyond boredom (happens in career) I turn time acceleration on over friendly territory, and use map icons to make up for 16x slower perception.
I don't use view and piloting aids, and avoid engine aids.
In MP, I use server settings - different servers for different needs. I'm not above flying on airquake servers with icons on, though I wish they had no engine aids.

My preferrred is full switch + GPS and externals. No icons of any sort other than own plane on map. As such I voted other.

3rd option for me.  I prefer letting the sim pilot handle the engine management so I can concentrate on pointing the nose at something to shoot. Also I prefer fighting the enemy planes rather than fighting to keep mine in the air, so I always turn the stalls/spins option off. If I was forced to play full real, I'd quit long before I ever trained myself well enough to stay in the air AND kill another human player...    I tend to use labels as well to help make up for having to view the world through a small monitor rather than a full on real canopy. If they could have a label option that only showed up under 300 meters from another plane, that could be a good compromise for me.

Presently at x1.5 in ROF, so guess 1.

I dislike HUD and a 3rd POV makes one look into angles where it would be impossible from the pilot seat, so nope.

4th choice. I am 76 and must remember to eat breakfast and feed my dog. Be patient.. That may be you someday. I love history . The best "theater" available. Hugh Dowding in bob.. What a wonderful man he was in the right time, place, and role he played. For me, the sims offer me a glimpse and feel of the period. I am unable to remember engine management and just enjoy flying and looking at these AC that flew when I was young. Stalingrad..I havecreadvthe histories over the years. The air war 1944, the Pacific.... Flying the 190.. A real treat. I explain this so the gifted sim developers remember us old boys. I must add how grateful I am to Team Fusion.. I really like flying the Bf 110 and C o D has improved so much. Letting the fan base participate is a new interactive hobby for many of you and I enjoy reading your technical information and historical observations. Several friends have told me the Russians are especially dedicated in developing games and sims by upgrading and refining their efforts. Many thanks!

External view when on the ground should be available as an option in full real. It helps to find out where you are and where is the runway.

Full real except for outside views when offline. I don't use the views to cheat, just for eye-candy. Online I fly 1.5 on the New Wings server but I liked it a lot better when I had outside views. I understand the cheating problem but I still like to be able to look at my (not other peoples) plane.

Had a similar issue in squadron play in IL2. Everyone else used icons. I just turned mine off. I was disadvantaged, but it didn't seem like a big deal because it was my choice.

Full switch when flying online, with the squad or the RoFl career!

Externals on when flying on my own so I can admire both the scenery and my aircraft. :)

If external views are enabled then using them is not cheating.. it is only cheating when you are the only one who has that option and no one else knows you are using it... and I don't want to hijack this thread .. but I had to toss that in there..

I prefer a closed pit with no map icons.. full switch on flight stuff of course.. but I like limited icons and externals.. I like doing that flyby .. I also think that being able to look around once yo land or die is a nice plus.

For that I have a taser mounted on my budkicker that changes polarity for a red-out

:P

4th option for me.

I do want my map icon because I just can't be bothered to navigate.

Seems to me some guys should go 4th but go 1 anyway, beats me why, isn't it a poll that should reflect something?

This is probably a aces high perspective, that having been my first home. Full cockpit. No external. Limited icons. Why?

More people the better. Not everybody had a super pc. Prob still doesn't range of icons around 2000 yards. It made for fun play and drew in more people to axis vs allies events. The normal game in ah had a 6000 yard icon range, no externals, cockpit only. A rough plane type icon, closer inspection (800 yards) revealed true plane type for e a/c.

Full switch, but with a pre-warmed engine.  No map, nav or aircraft icons. Externals enabled for screenshots etc.
