Uriah Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 How well do the fighter escort protect the bombers? More of a concern in off line play and don't know we even have a way of knowing yet. But that kind of thing is important to me.
VikingFjord Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 depends on the skill of the fighter pilot defending

Finkeren Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Uriah, haven't you started a thread like this before? I remember telling you about how RoF AI does escorting (pretty well IMHO) If I am to contribute something new, I'd like to point out, that the different airforces had very different approaches to escort duty. From what I've read it seems, that the VVS tactic was a pretty strict 'close escort' approach. The fighters (usually Yaks) would fly a few thousand feet above the bombers and dive on any aircraft attacking the bombers, firing a single salvo and then climbing again. Under normal circumstances they would not engage in any kind of dogfight with the attackers.

Uriah Posted August 23, 2014 Author Posted August 23, 2014 You're right, silly me. As it seems to have been done well in ROF - I have high hopes.
