II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Zac has posted an updated Fw cockpit and it looks excellent. I admit I was one of the staunchest and vocal critics, other than the one who shall not be mentioned, and so I eat a bit of humble pie. Nice job Devs. Can't wait to fly her in this configuration. Thanks, also, for the original post Zac. 9

6./ZG26_Gielow Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 That is what we are talking about Anyway, I dont need them anymore. I learned to manage the engine using the force 1
FlyingNutcase Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 I'm no expert on the 190 but that looks a whole lot more like it!

WWChunk Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 That looks a LOT better...and we can see the gauges, too. Can't wait to take a look at her in game.
SeriousFox Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 No update this week? But seeing this, I'm alreadt happy without it ^^
Finkeren Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 No update this week? Last word from Zak was, that some guys from the team are doing an all-nighter to get the update ready for the weekend.
RainMan Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 From the screenshot, the visibility of the dash instruments seems to have greatly improved. Looking forward to the patch now...
CUJO_1970 Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Excellent news! The bigger issue with the original view IMO was that you couldn't see the lower cockpit panel - it appears to have addressed here and that's really good news. A big thanks to the developers for correcting this. Looking forward to the update even more now.
Requiem Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 (edited) I don't care about flying for one side or the other, but seeing these changes now reflect what we have seen a lot of evidence for is a great thing to see happen to the Fw-190. Edited August 22, 2014 by SYN_Requiem 2
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted August 22, 2014 Author Posted August 22, 2014 I've already improved my general outlook from Luftwhiner to Luftsniffler with this updated cockpit. When we get convergence, I will become a true fanboi again. Others can argue FM/DM but I can already fly her pretty well and can take on (or run from) anything that doesn't start with a Bf in front of it. Really happy with the progress. Thanks again, HerrMurf

II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted August 22, 2014 Author Posted August 22, 2014 Sadly, I won't get to fly it til Monday now.
Nil Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Ok.. that explains it! Will dig up my hotas and trackir 5 for 'tomorrows' update then (Just noticed that my latest update were 14-08-15, even thou it updated)
1CGS LukeFF Posted August 23, 2014 1CGS Posted August 23, 2014 (edited) From the image above, it looks like it matches up pretty well with this diagram: Edited August 23, 2014 by LukeFF
chris455 Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Eye height and perspective on this latest revision seem to agree with photographic evidence. The sub-panel also sems to be more evident, which is also supported by photosof the prototype. The height of the Revi is much closer to real-world. My only concern now is what I perceive as the tail-low attitude of the Wurger in level flight in-game, which contrasts sharply with the tail-high "sit" of the plane which we know fromcountless photograpgh was the actual case. It should be remembered that this too will have an impact on pilot perspective. My two-
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted August 23, 2014 Author Posted August 23, 2014 From looking at my external views in level flight it appears correct to me. 1
smink1701 Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 These guys are amazing. They listen and actually act on our wishes when they feel they are warranted and doable. It's a real partnership! Comrades, not adversaries like the IC days 4
Gort Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Sorry, but the center windscreen and quarter panels still look distorted to me. They've raised the gunsight and made the instruments readable, so good credit for that. I need to find a drawing with the center windscreen dimensions. The one I have is unreadable.
Gambit21 Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 That's a camera perspective issue, not a geometry issue - just FYI.
Gort Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 I don't know how the 3D cockpits are "constructed" in the sim, however, even when moving the pilot's eye close to the glareshield,,which is how I fly, the perspective looks wrong. Like the front of the windscreen is eight feet long. It's as if a photo for a wide angle camera was used to build the cockpit perspective. Could just be a 2D perspective problem, but the fisheye perspective is very annoying.
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted August 23, 2014 Author Posted August 23, 2014 It is just a rendering style with a vanishing point like a painting. I'm not sure I have ever seen a Fw cockpit in a game without some degree of pinching the vertical portions of the windscreen. Some more, perhaps, and some less but always present to some extent. I am quite OK with the present fix.
Gambit21 Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 (edited) It's focal length distortion - not vanishing point. There's no vanishing points in 3D, that's strictly a 2D tool. I work in 3D (including doing WWII aircraft models) and came from a traditional illustration background before getting involved with modeling and such. Edited August 23, 2014 by Gambit21
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted August 23, 2014 Author Posted August 23, 2014 (edited) Fair enough. It is rendered similarly in many games and seems appropriate to me. It's not a Picasso or a Dali but it is an artists interpretation and much better than what we've had for the last ever weeks. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied. Beazil Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 I am impressed. I didn't notice that much of a difference until I had a good second look. The instruments "pop" more and the gun sight appears to "dip" the bar - mimicking what the gun sight *should?* *would?* see. Can't wait to try it.
LizLemon Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 These guys are amazing. They listen and actually act on our wishes when they feel they are warranted and doable. It's a real partnership! Comrades, not adversaries like the IC days This just goes to show that bringing up issues has results. Even though it is "beta" people should still make their voice heard. Don't listen to the naysayers who decry any criticism of this game. Criticism is clearly making this sim better. However I think the bar still needs a bit of work, but thankfully the gunsight is now in the historically correct position. This is much improved from the initial release. 1
HagarTheHorrible Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 When it comes to listening to your customers, they've really raised the bar this time.

Could just be a 2D perspective problem, but the fisheye perspective is very annoying. The amount of "fisheye" depends on the zoom/field-of-view setting. When zoomed out you'll get the curved fisheye effect, and when zoomed in you'll get flat parallax like you get through a telephoto lens. Only at neutral zoom position is the view most natural.
SR-F_Winger Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 (edited) doesnt a lower mounted revi result in less forward down visibility? And therefor in less awareness on what you shoot when deflection shooting? In reality this was improved by the refraction of the glass. I dont know for real since i didnt try it out yet but this to me seems to be a big tradeoff just to see the lower gauges wich was easily possible withe snapviews or trackIR... Just a thought EDIT: Forward down visibility with the revicross still in sight.. Edited August 23, 2014 by VSG1_Winger

Looks like they made some changes to dashboard.. not 100% sure for now

Just a thought EDIT: Forward down visibility with the revicross still in sight.. Exactly Revi is now lower and in its historically correct position. If the bar is corrected then we will be on our way to a very nice 190 cockpit. As it stands now its an improvement. Still not quite there, but much closer then the initial release.

It's not a Picasso or a Dali but it is an artists interpretation and much better than what we've had for the last ever weeks. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied. It is a presupposition from other game experience and it isn't right. It looks very cartoonish to me from years sitting in similar cockpits. Get me the dimensions and we'll see if I'm all wet.
