Swastika replacement optional

It's probably already been mentioned, I just can't be bothered to wade through several million posts around the topic but aren't actually relevant.

I originally was quiet relaxed about the replacement Swastika design but over time I've become less enamoured.  I think I would now prefer nothing rather than something that is obviously incorrect, It just stands out, shouting, "Hey look at me".

I don't want to start a debate, there are several threads already about the inclusion of Swastika's I just wondered if having the replacement design was going to be optional, or is it pre baked when the skin comes out of the oven ?

Just wait for user skin packs, means after release.

There have been plenty of Swastika skins for RoF (obviously had a different meaning in WW1) so I don't expect t to be any different in BoS.

I think it would just be nice though to have the default skins with the option of not having anything.

i like the faux swastika design, because it's easy to turn it into a full swasika in photoshop.

Completely agree.

It's a puzzle to me why they use something completely incorrect, arbitrary and made-up rather than to just leave the tailplane area blank?

I agree, the implemented place holder is not very pleasing. I would rather have nothing.

I think that the current one is ok, anyways remember the legal stuff and like somebody said before, the skins will do the rest. Right now that symbol in the tail make the function IMO.

Really - the last thing I'm worried about.

I like the Fakenkreuz. It does it's job with a bit more artistic flair than diamonds or Xs

I actually would have preferred no symbol at all, if the Hakenkreuz was off limits due to legal reasons.

Soon we'll probably see "historically accurate" skins by the community anyway.

User skins will be classed as mods. Meaning not all servers will run them. They should be optional.

I .. accept.. the current compromise. As the game would be forbidden in several countries if the swastika were included. And I'd rather have this one then nothing at all!

I made a small research about where Wolfenstein New Order was banned and I find out that only Germany and Austria really apply their laws about nazi WW2 symbols.

Other countries have laws about it too but they seem not to care about a videogame.

I actually like what they came up with as it is a creative way of implementing a (in many countries) banned symbol. To any one who is pining for historical accuracy, this is the weakest thing you can pick to take a stance over. Think about it from a rational business standpoint.

Bravo to the art team for their creativity.

WNO wasn't banned in those countries but they made a separate version of the game. It's the first Wolfenstein title to be sold there. The bad guys are called "The Regime".

I wasn't really fussed by it either, I wasn't for it, but then I didn't have a problem with it either.  It was only when I was looking at todays pic of the He 111 and I just thought.........."nuh".

From what I understand, the swastika is only banned when it pertains to glorifying national socialism; it is not banned when it pertains to things that portray the swastika in its historical context, e.g. movies and books about WW2, etc (not sure if simulations fall under this aspect).

I really must say that I like the approach of that faux swastika. I might add that I never used them in Il-2 series, so I've already accepted the absence of these symbols pretty early. That thing we have in BoS somehow does not feel wrong. I just say that because in DCS the diamond shaped thing they put on the FW-190D-9 looks extremely wrong. The BoS one is rather subtle while the DCS solution is a hard beat into the face where I'd really prefer nothing at all which isn't the case in BoS.

As for displaying the swastika: At least in Germany it's banned and showing it in publicity is indictable. Exceptions are made in case of historical documents, remains in museums and of course, documentaries. Games or simulations haven't been approved for their documentary character and probably won't ever be, so it's forbidden.

That reminds me; will we ever get Zeppelins in this game?

Zee Swastika looks evil.  I love it!  One of the most iconic logos in history.  I will enjoy seeing it go down in flames and I will enjoy being zee villain.

I agree with Hagar.

didn't they have a vote on it with a few other designs and the option of nothing?  I have some vague memory to that effect, and this was the customers choice.

If you'd bothered to spend several seconds reading the OP rather than looking for and attaching a mildly amusing Gif to your post you might have realized that it isn't asking for the swastika to be included, which as you suggest is flogging a dead horse, but whether the replacement is optional or pre baked onto the skin for the default aircraft.

It's still a dead issue.

I think the one in use is the best compromise.

The fact of the matter is that the team isn't able to make Swastika skins according to Russian law. Wether or not that law is always enforced is a moot point, and I don't think anyone here wants to see the team get in trouble over something completely avoidable.

I agree that it's a pain in the ass to not have a proper Hakenkreuz, though. Thankfully, we should get user-made Swastika skins as soon as possible. I dare say some skinners have already made them!

If there is no swastika just have nothing because some aeroplanes were like that anyway.

The X's made Wings of Prey feel like some horrible attempt by SNK to make a Metal Slug that wasn't a 2D Sidescroller.

This. Some of the german aces painted over their swastikas because they didn't support any of Hitler's ideologies and the NAZI regime. They only temporarily painted them back when high rank Luftwaffe leaders came for squadrom inspections.

At late war stage nearly nobody kept the swastika on the fin. Just need to google some 262 pictures, there are plenty without it. Personally I think they should neither implement the real one, nor replacements. Just leave it free covered with camouflage and leave the "real deal" for historical skinners after release.

Really? I am curious to see some of your photographic evidences...
