17_Gurkha_Jack_Daniels Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Hi all, this is my first post. I've been watching things progress for a while and after reading the Steam thread here, I decided the time was right to offer my support and a few quid to the cause. My first question is do I order via the IL2 website in $ or do I order via Steam in £ (my native currency)? Is one of greater value than the other? At this stage will waiting for formal release be a wise move? Thanks in advance for any advice.
Chuck_Owl Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Just compare the prices in $ and £. If it's less expensive (which I doubt it is, but we never know) on steam, get it on steam and vice versa. At the moment there is zero difference between the website and steam versions.
Brano Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Well,I do not know exactly what is the difference in price inbetween those 2 currencies. If you want this game to be bought and activated via Steam,do it.If you don´t mind about Steam, buy it from official store on this webpage.I will leave this decision on you.Same with checking price difference.
Snoop_Hogg Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Cheaper to buy from the IL2 website, by a few quid for the normal version and by over a tenner for the premium ed. You have to go through a launcher anyway so there's virtually no advantage getting on steam at this stage. (I looked into it myself, and got it from here and think I made the right choice) 1
Emgy Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 ^Yep, the launcher does the auto updating for you, and you save money.
Feathered_IV Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 I assume more money goes directly to the devs if you buy here compared to Steam? 1
17_Gurkha_Jack_Daniels Posted August 22, 2014 Author Posted August 22, 2014 Thanks guys, much appreciated. I guess the only potential is that Steam drop discounts later that we're unable to take advantage of by buying direct, but hey, if it supports the effort I guess direct is the way to go see you in the sky's (I'll be at the end of the smoke trail plummeting below you) 3
Emgy Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 (edited) Discounts for DLC? That's a good point. I think publishers need to approve any discounts on their Steam games, but who knows how that will play out for this game. (Personal speculation based on waiting for games on my steam wishlist to go on sale: I think the publishers will take care to coordinate steam sales with sales on this website.) 17_Gurkha_Jack_Daniels Posted August 22, 2014 Author Posted August 22, 2014 mmm I can imagine people waiting to buy simply because things aren't really clear :/ it's a substantial purchase for a title after all.
Rama Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 For information and to try to get more: What is not clear?
17_Gurkha_Jack_Daniels Posted September 2, 2014 Author Posted September 2, 2014 For information and to try to get more: What is not clear? If purchasers who buy direct from the website today (about £10 cheaper than a Steam purchase), will pay a premium for DLC in the future? or will the direct prices be in line with Steam discount runs and the like? That's all...
39bn_pavig Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 We can't read the future... but in my experience, from smaller companies DLC tends to be cheaper direct than through steam, because there are extra development costs and sales cuts associated with DLC sold via the steam system. This is just a general rule of thumb though. (Rise of flight, DCS, Paradox DLC as typical examples.) This though is only over the long run, and some people get lucky by waiting around for a particular sale to buy things... but that only usually happens either very early alpha, or long after release. The moral of the story is, if you want it you should just buy it and not worry so much. ...having said that, I bought direct.
Leaf Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 I bought it directly from here, also in pounds; by my calculation at the time it was a little cheaper and all the money goes to the devs. So unless you have a Steam fetish, I'd buy it from here. The Steam version also seems to have a few more updating-related bugs.
