Other types of game forums.. are they like simmer forums?

I have noticed that we simmers can be a particularly ... testy lot.. very opinionated.. very passionate.. bringing to my mind that old saying "You can always tell a fighter pilot.. you just can 't tell him much.."

All my experience on forums related to gaming are on flight sim forums.. There are a few music forums I frequent as well under a different name but that is it.. Some of them can get kind of raucous as well but it generally is not quite as passionate as these flight sim forums. I remember some of the early days at UBI when I first got there .. I was kind of taken aback at first by some of the stuff I was reading in the old PL there..  I understand the whole internet cajones thing .. where you get guys who get all up in your virtual face but would probably duck for cover in a face to face confrontation (there is no one person in particular that I have in mind in this case I am just being general) . I find that for the most part it is very pleasant meeting folks from forums in person and I have met quite a few from the IL2 community in real tie before.. but I was wondering.. do other game forums have the same .. attention to detail and fastidiousness that the sim community does..? Do guys on shooter boards get into heated debates about which gun won what war and if a safety is in the wrong position on a given weapon? Do they argue over damage models for certain weapons or how vehicles are modeled etc ... ? Or do they just get in there and run around and shoot .. "realism" or " immersion" be d@mned?

I'm just curious ... it kinda popped into my head this morning.. I have been on staycation all week and Mamabear and baby bear are both out of town till tomorrow so it's just been me and the boys (the dogs) and my PC and my guitars and I am actually loving it.. (I love em and all but it is a wonderfull thing to have the house to one's self for a spell.. )

Then you have not checked out other sims just thinking of Red Orchestra, the tankers are no different to the lot

here. Everyone has their opinion to what is the best WWII tank.

Guitarist forums are pretty similar when it comes to decide which guitar/pickup/amp/pedal is better :P

Car/racing sim forums are similar too, sometimes even worse...

I don't play other game genres much, but if you ever go to a forum for help with how to care for your pet, you will meet the nicest people on the internet.  I figure that's because a large majority there are women. :P

The only non-sim gaming forum I have frequented a lot was the unofficial Total War forum, and it is pretty similar to sim fora.

I've sometimes visited other game forums in search of specific information but have quickly turned away. Most og these fora are decidedly "gamey" with people mostly discussing balance, exploits and dishing out hate towards anything other than their own favourite faction, team, class or whatever. In much the same way sports fans do towards rival teams and their fans. The rest is just 14 year olds trying to bolster their self confidence by bragging shamelessly about their in game achievements and calling everyone else liars.

All things considered, the standards are pretty high around here.

On the other hand, a simmer would give you all his heart, passion, time, trust, support, participation, commitment and money (money for which his wife would kill him) which other gamers would never give to any game developer....

that is...why they could be so disappointed....sometimes with a good reason....
