Just a question about the early access, events, limited access ecc. ecc..

Could we host ourself some servers to fly with our team mates to test the aircrafts or not? If not, how could we be ready for the early access events if we are not trained enough to fly with our planes?

My apologies if this question has been already answered, but me and my team pilots still have some doubts about this point.

One would expect that by now someone got the idea to actually implement all this into a game, without having the 3rd party doing all the work. From the replies here it is visible that majority of people flew mostly skirmish coops in IL2 without actually trying out one of the online wars. The devs said that a DF server will be able to recreate the coop experience. I guess someone here is missing that 4 guys taking off and flying in formation doesn`t make it  a coop.

On Russian forum in DD27 topic in 11 pages there is no one taking about lack of co-op, exept 6-7 of us missing it out of more then 6000 people on this forum im not suprised they think its not so important.

Weren't the people behind Rise of Flight and BoS once key members of the Gennadich Team, who developed the online war system for IL-2?

Yes. hihi

From the times that Rise of Flight still was Knights of the Sky.

Loft was general manager and Viks took part of Gennadich Team also.

But remember the WWI and WWII combat flight sim world is a niche so they all know each other and work together on projects.

Can I put in a plea for occasional flyers, who won't be joining any teams or flying online, and who don't have the time or inclination to immerse themselves in the aracana of deadicated flight simulation.  We - I - deeply appreciate the effort and 'realism' that goes into flight sims, but unless they are kept accessible, you are going to lose us (me).  Sadly, Rise of Flight suffers from this inaccessibility, with the result that it just isn't satisfying to fly.  It is, in fact, impossible to tell what is going on in RoF unless you are prepared to spend more time more regularly than I am willing to spare.

So ... please consider the following:

 - Keep the hard-learned IL-2 controls and keyboard combinations.

 - Provide a 'no cockpit' view (777 - are you listening?  This is a no-brainer.  In a real 'plane, you can move in your seat, move your head, crane forward to look around struts, etc.  Very few aircraft involve flying in the digital equivalent of a letterbox).

 - Provide easy toggling between internal and external views of where the hell you are, and what is happening around you.

Purists may whinge, but they don't have to use such tools.  For the rest of us, if you accept that we are flying a simulation on a computer, compromises from imaginary reality are inescapable.

Finally, give us - me - a decent off-line mode and envionment.  Economics probably mean you will sign up with the irritating Steam platform, but I for one couldn't give a rat's about Steam's commercial imperatives, and it is deeply irritating when I want to fly to have to wait for irrelevant updating of a platform that just gets in my way.

Looking forward to the beta.

....and in case folks aren't aware, there already are some nice wall papers on IL2 Sturmovik Face Book page. Check the FB topic in the General Forum for a link.

Now the planes of CoD will be merged with the engine of Rise of Flight.

And voila, I have to pay 89 bucks so I can play it first.

Are you kidding me?

The only person you're kidding is yourself.

I wish half the people in this forum would go download and play ROF before they can comment here...  :)

Go explore the mission builder, go explore the controls, go see that it has trackir support, go join Syndicate server online to see their setup, checkout the other features - single player career, etc...

Then come back and think WW2 with an enhanced ROF2 type of setup :)

I bet most the questions and concerns would go away.

I need to go online in RoF myself.. Just to see what it is like .. I have been flying solely offline.

If you have an afternoon off try multiplayer when the euros are on. It's a graveyard during North American evenings, except for the airquake servers.

Don't listen to gavagai.  We regularly get 20+ on the Wargrounds server during NA hours.  There is plenty of good fighting.

Wargrounds is to Syndicate what Warthunder is to BoS. :P

It's still better than sitting around working on your list of things to complain about.

Yes it is.

What about AI?

The way IL-2 coops worked was that there was a given amount of aircraft in a mission of which every flyable one was up for grabs.. people filled up the slots as they pleased and those that werent taken would turn into AI planes once the mission starts.

How does that work in RoF though (not played it in a while)? Are such aircraft slots simply going to vanish or does it work like in IL-2?
