Hey all, I have not played many flight sims or flight type games, I did play il-2 about 8 or 10 years ago thougha bit with an old ms sidewinder controller I think it was.  I am into driving games and have a nice cockpit/triple screen setup and thought it may be a nice setup for this new il-2 game.  I would need a controller though, I was looking at the Saitek X55 or the X52 Pro perhaps.. but would also go with something different if you all more recommendations.  I would have to learn how to fly again (never was good at it) but want it to be at least somewhat realistic so a nice controller would be preferred.  What all do you recommend I look into?

thanks all

CH Flightstick Pro+CH Pro Pedals+CH Pro Throttle or Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS+Rudder pedals of your choosing. I will be getting the CH setup myself shortly.

For rudder pedals could I use my CSR Elite pedals?  Its three pedals (gas brake and clutch) but could use any two of them (clutch and gas perhaps) as rudder pedals?  The gas and clutch have similar resistance and movement, brake is very stiff, so probably not a good choice.

2nd, I have had a CH HOTAS for several years now and still works like new, built like a brick!! Highly recommend it. Not as flashy as some other brands, but very duriable and very programable.

Will never, ever, ever, ever buy another Thrustmaster product again!! Don't care what it looks like or does or how many flashing lights and bells it has (don't even care if it makes coffee in the mornings). Got really burned out having to replace the cheap switiches, pots and other parts in which they insist on continuing to use and use and use....  You'd think ThrustMaster would have gotten the picture after a few years.

I went with the X55 and loving it. Along with saitek pro combat pedals. They are great pedals but i have to wear shoes to use them as "the bar" style hurts the feet after awhile..

The CH flightstick and throttle appear to have way less buttons then the thrustmaster or saitek, this an issue overall?  The ch fighterstick a fine choice over the ch flightstick? They also have a comback stick it looks like as well, which is the "best"? How about using my driving sim pedals, will these work anyone know?

**appears noone has the ch throttle in stock as of right now.

The CH control manger is awesome too!!! Oh and don't forget Track IR ( arguable most important after the joystick).    http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/

I think they are pretty comparable in the amount of buttons. there are more on both set ups then you will need for this game. All you have to do is set a shift key and walla you have twice as many binds.

I have used CH and Saitek and CH is better in my opnion. Thrustmaster is overpriced and from what i heard from a friend that got it is that its not worth the price. ( He actualy returned it and went back to the CH stick and throttle).

The issue you have with driving pedals is ( correct me if im wrong) that you only have brakes on them you need a forward and backwards motion for the rudders. That being said you can probable use them but you wont have tor brakes.

all of the above are excellent choices, u will definitely need rudder pedals and cannot recommend enough getting TRACK IR as well

just would like to say that I have used Thrustmaster products for many years (have had two modified Cougars, and now own 2 sets of Warthogs - overall, could not be happier...I have had a few issues with buttons/switches, all of these were replaced for free by the company...

I also own CH FlightsticPRO; and really have nothing bad to say about it except metal is metal...

CH FighterStick is based on same F-16/A-10 grip that Warthog is based, basically lack the "pinkie" lever and second stage on trigger.

CH CombatStick replace two HATS with two big press button, what (IMO) is more adequate for WW II planes (buttons for fire guns, cannons, rockets).

CH FlightStick not worth it, is very simple (3 axis, 4 buttons, HAT), for a similar value one buy something better. E.g. Tm T.16000M.

You can use your CRS elite pedal as rudder control only if allow combine two axis (e.g. brake and clutch)  in one, since rudder in flight sim use only one axis.
