Armament Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 So I managed to find my old Saitek x45 from my IL-2 1946 days. I know, it's crap compared to what's out right now. I just need it for a few weeks till i can scrounge together the money for a proper CH or Thrustmaster setup. I was hoping the game would auto-detect the joystick and get everything setup for me. But the controls do nothing in-game for the most part. Only shooting or moving the camera around works. Is there some kind of profile I need to download? I may also need a guide to getting off of the ground as well. Thanks.
MarcoRossolini Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Have you had it plugged in before the game started? (just covering bases here) If not, you'll pretty much have to map it in by hand. Under the controls section of settings you'll be able to map the joystick in yourself. It'll take a little bit of experimenting to get the X,Y,Z axes properly setup. The game should detect your movements as you map it in...
Armament Posted August 18, 2014 Author Posted August 18, 2014 Yeah I just got done installing the software. I had to map most of the movements. Just finished learning how to get off of the ground. Now working on reading the map..
FlatSpinMan Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Shout out if you need help. I just posted this over at the Steam forum. Bit different but it might help. Mapping controls can be quite overwhelming. Start with basics. Assign a few controls, then click Accept. Assign a few more, click Accept again. That way you'll be sure to save what you've set up. -Pilot head - so you can look around the cockpit -Engine and Flight controls - just start with throttle (check its not inverted by default). Radiator is automatic if you use Easy settings. Trim will be really handy, but if you just want to zoom around for a bit it can wait. I highly suggest you set it though. Be aware that different aircraft have more or fewer trim settings than others. Also, the 109 has an adjustable tailplane, called Pitch Stabiliser or something in the game. -Fun stuff (WEAPON CONTROLS!) - these are fairly self-evident, I'd imagine. - Camera controls - IMPORTANT - for these and and the Pilot Head controls, there are sliders you can adjust. Latency and so on. Sliding them to 100% gives instant movement, rather than more gradual movement. You can also switch default view type between Pan-Snap-and one other that I forget. I use snap. That's all I can think of for now. I hope it gets you started.
Armament Posted August 18, 2014 Author Posted August 18, 2014 Thanks man, I did set the Pilot head movements. Engine.. is a bit confusing. I'll turn it off but it will not come back on. Throttle is set, No idea what trim is lol. (rudder, maybe?) Weapons are set. Is there some sort of team speak I can hop on to learn a few things? Flying feels super clunky at the moment.

Trim is a setting that adjusts the way your plane flies. If you fly a plane, and you let go of the controls, it will roll to one side and the nose will gradually go up or down. Trim compensates this, so if you trim your plane properly it will keep flying straight if you let go of the controls. If you don't trim, you will find that you are constantly holding your stick somewhere away from the neutral position, and this gets annoying after a while.
-NW-ChiefRedCloud Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 I have a Saitek X52 Pro setup and I'm having a see bit of problems assigning keys to the like of fuel mixture, prop pitch, and other controllable surfaces. I even went back to the original key configure and still can't access them. Now to be clear, I am 4 days new to BoS but I also. Fly OFF, Clod & DCS and have no problem setting up controls. This not a gripe or complaint just asking for any tips or help. Chief

I did not install any stick software. its really odd; all the functions work except the pinky trigger (cannons) and my normal engine start (button on left thumb before mini joystick) aren't recognized by the game. I checked them in the control panel and they all work. Stumped.
EAF19_Charlie Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 I'm stumped too. I cannot assign simple head movements to the pov switch on my CH pro throttle (left, right,up,down). When i try in game the views are all over except where you want to look. I do not have any issues with assigning head movement in RoF,ClOD or IL2 1946.
JonRedcorn Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 May I suggest flying with your left hand and using the mouse to move the camera, then set pilot head movement to up/down left/right to the hat stick. This way you get 6dof and are able to easily follow targets in the air. Getting use to left handed flying wasn't too easy but it's been a benefit to me as it gives me almost trackir camera ability. Although tomorrow I will be building myself my own trackir setup for about 40 dollars so I will be able to fly with my right hand again WOOO!!
bix7777 Posted June 29, 2020 Posted June 29, 2020 I have an old (10+) yrs) Saitek X-45 as well. Everything auto set up, all fine, except main throttle control. It works on MS Flight Sim Steam, but not IL-2 Steam. Any help here? Thanks!
